I agree, they should not be allowed to redo a song. It wouldn't have been a competition if Cook had done Hello or Billy Jean. I appreciate that Cook takes risks and shows he is a real artist. David A. will probably win, which was predicted from day one, but Cook will have the last laugh by having the longer and better career.
I still disagree with the judges wholeheartedly. They are obviously pushing for David A. to win. Randy was overexagerrating his excitement for him after the last performance. David C. might have chosen the wrong song for his last performance, but at least it had feeling and came from the heart, you could tell.
David A. wins, but David C. goes on to a wildly successful career.
David A is going to be a bit hard to market. I can't see him getting radio play like David Cook will.
Round Three:
Cook: 8
Archuletta: 9 (he sang it a little better the first time)
KNOCK-OUT!!!!! AND THE HANDS-DOWN WINNER IS.... DAVID A!!!
Okay... gotta go make a few calls now.

You're high, right?

Hmm. Would have thought they'd push for a Cook win, but I agree they were pimping the Porkchop. David Cook is much more well-rounded, exhibits more confidence and showmanship and Archuleta is still wet behind the ears. I do think Archuleta has a natural gift, though, and I can't, for the life of me, manage to dislike the kid. He's precious! Sang his little heart out tonight, too. Not invested to care who wins, but I genuinely wish them both the best.
Ruben sounded good!

And another thing I can't understand is why any true fan of David Cook would WANT him to win American Idol. He'll be so much better off coming in second, and I think he's smart enough to know it. In fact, he's probably backstage right now calling in votes for David A. on his cell phone.
David A. will be very hard to market, not only because he can pretty much only do ballads, but because he doesn't have the greatest personality for interviews and all of the appearances a performer needs to make.
I don't think David Cook did his best tonight, not the best song choices, but he still did well and if you look at the entire season he has been the better performer. I downloaded a few of his performances and none of David A. Almost everyone I know that watches the show says the same thing, David A has a nice voice, but no charisma and no versatility. The judges were much easier on David A. all season, either becasue they were grooming him to win or felt sorry for him because of his dad and were afraid they would break him. He did perform well tonight, but took no risks. I don't think this evening was as big of an Archie advantage as the judges implied.
Whatever Simon is smoking, I want some. Badly.
Here's the thing... I'll be honest and say that I don't think either of them are the complete package. One is a golden-voiced youngster with no soul and a tendency to pick songs that overreach his young sensibilities and experience. The other one is a rocker with spotty vocal chops, but an open heart and presence like you wouldn't believe.
The difference? One of them sold me tonight. Archuleta will win the title in a walk, but I honestly don't feel he deserves it. Even judging from the performances tonight, it's clear that Cook will be reaping the rewards within a couple years time. What's more, I can totally see him growing, and honing his craft.
With Archie, what you see is what you get. Few surprises, few risks, few stretches. Cook, though not the powerhouse vocalist that his opponent is, has a soul, honesty, and raw power that sneaks up on you.
I will be very happy when Archuleta wins tomorrow night, but not for the obvious reasons.

If you think David A is marketable, YOU are smoking something.
He will have a fan base of little girls who will buy his album. But it will be very hard for him to get radio play. And like someone else said he has a pretty terrible personality and does not know how to handle interviews.
If you think David A is marketable, YOU are smoking something.
I hope you're not referring to me...
It's all well and good to be idealistic about this and talk about Cook having an open heart and FEELING his songs, but the fact is that the Idol producers have a vested interest in finding someone who will sell as many copies of his first album as possible. That's the money they'll get from the deal.
Cook may very well grow and hone his craft. I hope he does. But that doesn't mean that he is more worthy of winning the title. I think he'll actually be better off coming in second and not being restricted by the typical stale Idol first album that Archie'll be perfect for.

I really felt bad for David Cook. He was so thoroughly outclassed it was sort of embarrassing. What a pathetic showing. I was sort of hoping Archuleta would have started to sing "Imagine" then stop and say "I'm sorry, I have already won. It would just be cruel to rub David Cook's nose in it and sing another song so much better than him. So I'll skip round three so that he can at least win ONE round, even if it is by default."
But of course, he's too sweet to do something like that. It was pretty rough for Cook I bet to hear himself get pounded into the dirt by a 16 year old.
Ah, okay. lol My bad, I didn't realize there was more than one marijuana reference on this page.
"He will have a fan base of little girls who will buy his album."
And pay hundreds of dollars per ticket to see him in concert just like they do for the likes of Hannah Montana and the High School Musical tour. If a Clay Aiken can make it in the business (and the last time I checked he, inexplicably, seemed to be doing pretty well), David A. is going to have one helluva career!
I think he'll actually be better off coming in second and not being restricted by the typical stale Idol first album that Archie'll be perfect for.
Agreed. I shouldn't have been so cryptic when I said...

What is the number to text to vote for Cook?
He's "marketable" in so far as a bunch of kiddies will buy his albums, ala Miley Cyrus or The Jonas Brothers. It's fairly obvious that they are pushing Archie to win to cash in on that market, but they run the risk of further watering down the American Idol franchise and it's relevance to current popular music. The only real radio play he will get will be on Seacrest's show and Radio Disney.
David Cook will have the longer and more vital career and Idol is lucky to have a piece of him for at least a short while.
If they were smart, they will shuttle David A to the Disney Channel as fast as possible.
I agree singingbackup. David A is prefect for Disney and that is his primary market. Miley and the Jonas boys are making a killing, so it is a good market to get into. However both Miley and the Jonas boys can sing uptempo songs and appear to be more personable. David A. is going to need a coach to help him with the journey he is about to be thrust into. Good news is if/when he wins maybe his dad will finally back off if all those stories are true.
The only real radio play he will get will be on Seacrest's show and Radio Disney.
- Exactly. And that could become a problem. For instance, Clay isn't getting any air play right now. And his album just dipped 81% is sales for the second week. You need radio play.
Clay doesn't appeal to the Disney market, Archie will at least for now. I have heard people say Archie may go in the direction of Josh Groban. He needs a lot more maturity to fill those shoes.
I think coming into tonight, it was Cook's to loose, and I mean that, but Archuletta outsang him by a mile. I don't know if that will translate into a win, but even Cook fans should admit, he was outsung tonight.
