Considering NO ONE has been able to successfully take out ISIS in two years, I'd say he is doing just fine. ISIS is an ideology. You can't "take it out."
Obama negotiated more than a decent deal with Iran. He negotiated a pretty damn good deal with Iran that, by and large, is supported by the international community and the only leaders saying otherwise are the blowhards who say there should never be any deal period.
re: Israel. I think think this is the biggest crock and folly yet. Somewhere along the way, some people (the Christian Right, really) managed to push through this idea that supporting and being allies with Israel means rolling over constantly and saying that Israel is right 100% of the time. They are the ONLY ally where this idea is pushed. That is foolish. We can disagree with them, we can criticize with them. Just as you do with any ally or friend. We can't babysit them and we can't "yes man" them, not should we (or current Israel foreign policy has been shaped by pressure from the Christian Right who believe that any challenge to Israel is goes against god and a stable Israeli state sets the return for Jesus Christ to Earth. That is not a foundation for foreign policy.)
as as far as what else you expect a President to accomplish, are you sure that perhaps you do not have severely misguided ideas about what the President is able to do with the powers of the office? There are great powers in certain areas and near zero in others. Obama has accomplished incredible feats considering the obstructionist Congress from day one, and he has done so, contrary to what the GOP loves to claim, while exercising great restraint.
... And as far as respecting Scalia in death vs if he were RBG, Scalia was a hatemonger who said disgusting things about many people from the bench with his power and we idled his own to attack many people. RBG has *never* in her career done anything like that. So, no. I will not "respect Scalia". The man had no respect for me.

"President Obama!!! Thanks for taking that $1.4 trillion-with-a-t deficit Geoge W Bush left you with and reducing it to a $492 billion-with-a-b deficit!! xo"
The US deficit was 10.6 trillion when President Obama took office, I believe it is now a bit over 19 trillion. In other words, the debt has increased even more under his terms than Bush (43) which is saying a bunch.

"Thanks for gas prices twice as low as Mitt Romney promised he'd get them, President Obama!! I'm glad to know you read BWW after seeing Hamilton twice!"
Were you thanking President Obama when gas prices were over $4 a gallon? I am willing to bet you were not and blaming Bush for the high prices. Just curious, what specific thing has President Obama done to make oil prices this low?

The debt and the deficit are two different things.

I don't know if Namo was being sarcastic but to be perfectly clear for those unaware, the President of the United States cannot affect, neither positively nor negatively, the price of gas. Per the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/01/business/gas-prices-are-out-of-any-presidents-control.html?_r=0

I agree they can't. But Mr. Romney assured us the opposite was true. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/mitt-romney-obama-to-blame-for-high-gas-prices/

At the risk of getting back on topic, in the last 24 hours there has been hedging from some GOP senators, who now seem less than fully committed to blind obstruction. Also, a few of the GOP candidates have made awkward statements revealing their true motive has nothing to do with the Constitution, but everything to do with their hatred of Obama.

Since we're dream casting SCOTUS!:The Musical, my pick is Renee Elyse Goldsberry. I've loved her since Two Gentlemen of Verona in Central Park. She'd rock that black gown. I'd let her judge me any time.

It was a silly idea for the Republicans anyway. Now they just look weak in front of their base and stupid in front of the rest of us. All they had to do was what the Constitution stipulates: "advise and consent," which means they can withhold their consent...if they have legitimate reasons.
I think Obama should nominate Lin-Manuel Miranda. No one could vote against him.

Okay, great... I'm not a Romney fan/supporter and I never suggested he could do whatever it is he claimed. I am simply responding to a post about gas prices and the Presidency. I don't care if they are blue, white, yellow, black, Republican or Democrat. You cannot affect the price of gas from the oval office. Nothing more to my previous statement. Nice try, though! ![]()

Definitely not surprising. The government is f*cking corrupt and controlled by corporate welfare. The concept of pure democracy disappeared 100 years ago... maybe even earlier than that. All appointed officials, elected politicians and public servants can be bought and are on a consistent basis. Look no further than the quid pro quo relationships between White House officials and major corporations like Boeing, Pfizer, VCS Mining, etc.

If you want to generalize it and water it down to "everyone is evil," go ahead. I'm more interested in this reigning supreme court justice who championed traditional values. You know, like pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth. The seven deadly traditional values.

Why? What was it that happened "100 years ago" or "earlier than that"?

As long as we're trashing Scalia, here are his words from the recent affirmative action case from Texas:
"There are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to get them into the University of Texas, where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a slower-track school where they do well. One of the briefs pointed out that most of the black scientists in this country don't come from schools like the University of Texas. They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they're being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them.'

Yes, he does. That way he can be "above" everybody who participates in whatever version of democracy exists in this country while lecturing people who do participate. All of the spouting off with none of the responsibility.

99.9% of politicians and public officials are corrupt cronies. This is not a partisan issue. This is a human issue. I'm glad you don't care enough to think about that, though. God forbid you actually embrace some frustration and anger with the current political system and the oppressive force it has become.
