Lol. I was thinking:
"I have some candy in my van. Do you want a piece?"

Taz, if you're going to quote Scalia, you should attribute it.

Gotta say it -- I smile everytime I see those four magic words "Antonin Scalia Has Died." Talk about the gift that keeps on giving.

Obama paying his respects by NOT attending the funeral of a civil servant of 30 years...classy as usual

Obama is paying his respects by attending the laying in state on Friday and sending joe Biden to the funeral. He IS NOT the first president to do this.

It strikes me as Obama's way of recognizing Scalia's service to the nation (such as it was), by attending the lying in state. Attending the funeral would be a way of paying respect to Scalia as a human being, which I can't blame anyone for wanting to avoid like the plague.

Agreed. I would skip the funeral. Arrogant, self-righteous bigot.

Obama's handling of the funeral is completely appropriate. Of course, there was kneejerk reaction from the right, but that has calmed down. I would expect a nominee very soon;. A president would have a shortlist in their back pocket, with candidates already vetted, at least preliminarily.

The coincidences, or sometimes the ironies of our "being", can't help but be noticed these past few days. Scalia's life altering judgements and "rulings" are indeed shameful when you consider someone else that also passed this week.
"You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it."
"The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience."
"There are just some kind of men who're so busy worrying about the next world, they've never learned to live in this one."
"...it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."
Harper Lee is someone I truly mourn. In her own way, she made the world a much better place.

Nice article in the town paper today about Sri Srinivasan, a leading candidate to replace Scalia, if you want to know a little more about his past growing up in my hometown. He was and is a great guy. His whole family is brilliant.

I figured this would be a good thread to put this in. Clarence Thomas hasn't asked a question in a decade. That's kind of amazing. And sad. And pathetic.

Jeffrey Toobin's takedown of Scalia is lengthy, but worth the time.

Per the WaPo , the Obama administration is vetting Brian Sandoval, the current GOP governor of Nevada. He is a centrist, and a former judge. Interesting choice.

There is something condescending about his declination. "I'll wait till the time is right."
Meaning a black, democratic president isn't gonna work for you. That might "taint" your gig.

It must be hard to be all moral and crap when you're running Nevada. Of course, it's so damn conservative out there.
