Report: Obamacare penalty regressive, will cost most uninsured at least $1,000

The penalty imposed by the Affordable Care Act on citizens who elect not to purchase health insurance will be at least $1,000 for most people, and more than $12,000 for high-income earners, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Tax Foundation.

We can see that this is a big tax, particularly on the poor, writes the Tax Foundations William McBride. Higher income families generally pay a higher amount, but actually a smaller percent of their income, making this a regressive tax.

For example, the penalty for a family of four earning $20,000 will be $2,085, more than 10 percent of its income, according to the Tax Foundation  whereas a family of four making $100,000 will only have two percent of its income taken away by the government.

So this new tax will come down hard on the poor and middle class and have little effect on the rich. Sort of what the Democrats screamed the Bush Tax Cuts did!

Cook Medical says it won't build five Midwest plants due to med-tech tax

A med-tech company says it's scrapping plans to open five new plants in the Midwest because of the 2.3 percent medical-device tax that goes into effect next year to help pay for the new federal health care law.
Cook Medical Inc., a Bloomington, Ind.-based company that makes a variety of medical devices, told the Indianapolis Business Journal that the federal tax will cost it between $20 million and $30 million annually.
That's enough to force the company to abandon plans to build five plants over the next five years, said Pete Yonkman, Cook's executive vice president of strategic business unit.

WH Communications director Dan Pfeiffer called out Charles Krauthammer because "Krauthammer today recycles the false rumor that POTUS gave back the bust of Winston Churchill."
Here's what Pfeiffer wrote: "Lately, there’s been a rumor swirling around about the current location of the bust of Winston Churchill. Some have claimed that President Obama removed the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office and sent it back to the British Embassy.

Now, normally we wouldn’t address a rumor that’s so patently false, but just this morning the Washington Post’s Charles Krauthammer repeated this ridiculous claim in his column. He said President Obama “started his Presidency by returning to the British Embassy the bust of Winston Churchill that had graced the Oval Office.”

This is 100% false. The bust still in the White House (sic). In the Residence. Outside the Treaty Room."

You are WRONG again, Wynbish; there were no spelling errors in my post. A spelling error is when one does not spell a word correctly because they are unfamiliar with the word's correct spelling. Since I had already spelled the word "truth" correctly in that very post, it is obvious that I knew how to spell that word. What you are referring to is a TYPO.

Earlier today, Dan Pfeiffer, WH Communications Director, issued an apology to Charles Krauthammer.

"Yesterday following his column, I sent the following email to Charles Krauthammer. Charles asked that I make the email public and I have agreed.

Charles,

I take your criticism seriously and you are correct that you are owed an apology. There was clearly an internal confusion about the two busts and there was no intention to deceive. I clearly overshot the runway in my post. The point I was trying to make  under the belief that the Bust in the residence was the one previously in the Oval Office-- was that this oft repeated talking point about the bust being a symbol of President Obamas failure to appreciate the special relationship is false. The bust that was returned was returned as a matter of course with all the other artwork that had been loaned to President Bush for display in his Oval Office and not something that President Obama or his Administration chose to do. I still think this is an important point and one I wish I had communicated better.

A better understanding of the facts on my part and a couple of deep breaths at the outset would have prevented this situation. Having said all that, barring a miracle comeback from the Phillies I would like to see the Nats win a world series even if it comes after my apology

You say he brought the economic recovery to a halt. It's more accurate to say he brought the economic meltdown started by the previous administration to a halt.
But hey...at least you admit he started the economic recovery. That's a step in the right direction.
