I said from the beginning of this season that (spoiler) Saul was gay (end spoiler)...they really should have made it more of a surprise...
This show doesn't do subtle. At all.

I think Scotty has something to do with Kevin not getting Jason's calls. Although it seems Jason may have told Kevin when they talked that he left messages at home. But I think Kevin is making a mistake.
My favorite line in tonight's show was the last line in the opening segment that Holly said about the office attire having to change.

All the gay chat boards have been rooting for Kevin and Scotty to get back together. They must be thrilled. I hated the early Kevin/Scotty storyline and hate that they are back together.
Other than that, this show is so full of great moments that really ring true. I got weepy when Kitty and Rebecca had a sister moment and it was only 5 minutes into the show! I think my problem with this show is that they are great with the moments, but the big picture is so over the top. They go through more every week than I go through in ten years! Yet somehow the show still works for me.

I'd rather see Nora with the Treat Williams character.
I can't help it...I love Kevin and Scotty together. I was never invested enough in the minister to care much for him.

I think that's my increasing problem with it - that the the abysmal writing. That scene with Nora and Saul on the phone at the beginning was just stupid.
Non-sequitor, but wasn't Nora Walker the mother's name in Tommy?

Phyllis, I think it was!
I am going to have to rent season 1. I started watching the show this season.

I have never liked Chevy Chase in anything, but I loved him in this role. He was sweet, reserved, charming - and just from an acting standpoint, gloriously underplayed.
I buy the Scotty storyline - it makes sense as it's unfolding.
And the writing, to me, is right on target. Cliches exist because they are based in truth. I accept everything coming out of these character's mouths.

DG, I thought he was good in the role...he's just aging poorly. And I thought Nora had a lot more chemistry with the Williams character.
I've never really been a Steven Webber fan, but it will be nice to see Sarah with a man who isn't threatened by her success.

Posted: 11/27/07 at 8:23pmHands down, one of the best written shows on television. The entire cast is perfection. And Sally Field is brilliant. She steals every scene she's in. Of course the characters go through more in one episode than most people go through in an entire year. It's television, for Christ's sake! Would you rather it move at a snail's pace and have nothing much happen from week to week?

These are the only choices?

Posted: 11/27/07 at 9:24pmIt's rare I have "appointment" television anymore, with the DVR and all. But I look forward to watching this every Sunday evening when it airs. It's a beautifully acted, juicy family drama I can really sink my teeth into, like I could with thirtysomething or Once and Again.

Posted: 11/28/07 at 1:10amEven though Sally Field is a fine actress and plays her character well, I still wish Betty Buckley stayed with the show. Sally Field took the role after Betty turned it down.

Posted: 11/28/07 at 11:00amDidn't Buckley shoot the pilot? Given her reputation, I suspect it was less about her turning them down and more about them showing her the door.

Betty Buckley did not turn down the role. The original pilot was SO different from what aired that I'm pretty sure Ms.Buckley did not really have much of a choice in the matter.
Sally Field can act ways around Buckley so I'm glad she is the one they went for.
I really love this show though I'm quite sad Robin Baitz is not with it anymore. I loved the wedding episode.
I hope they don't make Rebecca and Justin date in a surprising plot-twist that shows they aren't siblings. I really hate how TV shows can't show a male-female friendship without taking it to the next level (I'm thinking of Izzie/George).
Rachel Griffiths is an acting genius and I'm in love with Calista Flockhart, I didn't know she could act like that. Can't get enough of the Walker's drama.

Wooot!
And it's a good thing the Globe announcements are at nine. Because they're replacing Desperate Housewives with two episodes of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" with that weasel-like guy people think is hot ::shiver::
