Is anyone else in love with this comic strip? I'm sad its over (been a while since it was) but I grew up reading it, though I didn't get half the jokes until I was older. I'd loved Hobbes so much and really wanted an imaginary tigar friend like Hobbes when I was little. Whenever I feeling crappy I curl up with C&H and it almost always makes me feel much better about life. Who's with me?

So there with you. For the longest time it was my favorite comic. I miss them...

The cartoonist Bill Watterson no longer enjoyed the daily grind of doing the strip, and wanted to end it before he felt it dried up creatively. He also resisted all urges to mass market the strip, so the strip's distributor never was able to make all of the big bucks on animated specials or plush toys that Watterson felt would compromise the strip's integrity.

yeah, but at most t-shirt places in nyc you can still get those t-shirts of calvin grimacing with the caption, "every day i add another name to the list of people that p*ss me off!"

I think they wanted to make a TV show out of it. And Watterson wouldn't let them, I so glad they didin't it would have taken away everything thats special about the comic strip.

I love Calvin and Hobbes. And although it would have been nice to see some C&H calendars, I totally respect Bill Watterson for not agreeing to license his characters and ruining his strip. Not that it did a lot of good, did it? I mean, you can't turn around now without seeing a Calvin effigy pissing on the emblem of your choice. Classy, people...

Calvin & Hobbes = Brilliant. I still miss it (that and the Far Side). Favorite C&H Ever: a long story arc of Calvin & Hobbes trying to lure Susie Derkins into a water balloon ambush behind Calvin's house, involving notes written in "secret" code left where Susie can find them. Watterson built this thing up over so many days, I thought, "There'd better be a good payoff to this" - and is there ever, involving Calvin, Susie, and a garden hose...

I love Calvin and Hobbes. Was one of the best things that I read as a kid. Actually reading this reminded me that yesterday I jacked my boyfriend's Calvin and Hobbes book. Hehehe. Never going to return it. Well actually I will. Eventually.

I love Calvin and Hobbes!!!! I am so glad there are so many books of the strip. And i also miss the far side.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

I adore C& H. I had the final strip laminated and posted in my computer room before I moved. It was a beautiful way to leave.

My brother managed to claim the last strip before I did. I was little at the time, and didn't think to go out and get another copy. I'm kicking myself for not doing that.
