No plans for the weekend, except trying to dig out from under the pile of paperwork on my desk. Good thing we have free days on the weekends to do our work. My guilty pleasure these days is stealing some time, here and there, to plan my October trip to Nova Scotia. The focus for my sister and I was the farm and homestead of our maternal grandfather's family (the family still owns and operates the farm). But last night we discovered that in the next town, there is an historical site - a 1600s settlement - owned my an ancestor on our maternal grandmother's side. Two families in in trip - not bad! And, yes, SOMMS is also descended from the settlement family. I'll send him pictures. We're hoping for an inheritance.
One of these days I'm going to start with that whole ancestry thing. My sister wants me to do that thing where you send your saliva to some company, they analyze it and track where your ancestors originated and how they traveled through the millennia. She and my niece have done it; no big surprises from their DNA: Central, Southern and Northern European roots. Now they want to have my DNA analyzed. Unfortunately, New York State doesn't allow it. Darn.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
They don't allow private DNA testing. At least that's the message I got when I tried to order the kit. You have to go through a licensed medical practitioner to do it. (J2 doesn't qualify.) I'm not that into it, so I'm not going to jump through the hoops. I'll wait until the next time I visit my sister and we can do it then.

Maryland doesn't allow the type of DNA testing like 123Me, but the Ancestry.Com test is allowed. The problem with the other type of tests is that their claims are inaccurate and often used to make "predictive estimates" of medical issues. Ancestry just traces your.....ancestry.
By the way, the Moonchild had her DNA tested and Ancestry reports that there is a 99% chance that she is my daughter. Not sure what to think about that lingering 1% of doubt.
I've concluded that the Ancestry DNA is hooey! Mine came back 75% Irish. I think they take your surname and make **** up. I'm only 25% Irish. They completely negated the 75% of me that is FRENCH -- even the British 1/4 is FRENCH. And that 50% of my bloodlines come from FRENCH Canada -- one as early as 1632.

Because she doesn't kill family members? I'd check with her brother about that.
SOMMS - as you know, I tested as 76% British Isles, even though 75% of my ancestors are French. I emailed for a bit with a genetic genealogist and she said that wasn't all that unusual. Your DNA pool is like a big gumball machine. Turn that handle and you'll get a smattering of different colored balls, but every once in a while someone will get 75% (or more or less) of the same color. So, in my case, my collection of genes is very heavily weighted by my mom's father's Scottish/English bloodline and I really inherited very little from her mom and practically nothing from dear old dad. Whereas my sister is almost the opposite - overwhelmingly French genes (have you looked at that face?!?) and just a trace of British. Mom swears we had the same parents (yes, we asked).
