Now that I'm wide awake this sunny Monday morn, I can take a deep breath and say what I'm really thinking...
What, no Isabelle Stevenson Award?! How disappointing.
Is it just me or were the Tonys a pretty hit and miss (mostly miss) affair this year? I can't think of a year where I have been less emotionally invested.

The Isabelle Stevenson Award was given out before the telecast began, Hep. We got to watch it in the theater, but it was a mistake not to air it on the broacast in lieu of.....a number from Hairspray on a ship maybe? We also got to see the "In Memoriam" segment which SHOULD have been aired as well. I thought the event lacked enrgy and focus, though I was pleased with the many nods to ONCE. Odd choice for some of the musical numbers, too.
well with the ratings so low as they are, expect to see more Royal Caribbean product placement type things..... but yeah overall they were kinda blah. Some good performances, so ok, some bad. No real upsets other than I guess lead actor in a play. I was very happy for Audra and Once (even though i haven't seen it and probably won't - I love the little engine that could shows) and PatSC/Christian Borle.

I had the chance to watch my recording of the Tony Awards when I got home late last night - because I was too wound up to sleep. It actually broadcast better than I expected. A bit. There had been times throughout the evening when I would turn to Moony and say: "Well, there go the ratings" or "My mom just changed the channel"... it just felt flat. Enjoyable, but... flat. (And that's being there - which always has an air of excitement).
It was a terrible shame that they didn't air some of the special awards, but, Tink is absolutely correct. It's a TV show in addition to an awards ceremony, so we'll continue to see performances and choices which reflect the need to fund the program. (That said, I'd rather sit through a product placement like Hairspray at Sea than not be able to view it at all).
In thinking about the In Memoriam section - I honestly can't remember if they included Arthur Laurents or not. They very well may have, but, I don't remember seeing his name. (Could they have done that on purpose??) And I don't remember much applause throughout the segment. It's a shame they didn't air it (the segment)- but - there weren't many 'big names' this year (odd thing to say, but true), so am guessing the segment wouldn't have interest to the great majority of the tv viewing public. Again, it's a shame it wasn't shared. (But an Arthur Laurents shut out? Would they have dared? nah, it must have been there and I missed it...) At the end of that section I turned to Moony and said: "and Iflit - a BWW Icon" We both gave our own little applause to her.
The final song was so much fun. I thought NPH did a great job. I loved the Spiderman gag with his dangling from a rope while the speech about the Theatre Wing was going on. Well done. (Yes, there was a bit of nervous laughter for a bit, but it became clear pretty quickly that it was an act)
I was thrilled, thrilled, thrilled for ONCE winning Best Musical and Steve Kazee winning Best Actor in a Musical. I was also absolutely delighted with all of the PATSC getting so many awards and recognition. Roger Rees is a dear friend of my Chorale, so I have a personal 'connection' to it, as he invited us to enjoy it from the beginning at NYTW. We were seated in the row right in front of him, so it was fun to be in the midst of their joy.
Oh, and for everyone thinking you wish you had been there: be glad you were home in comfort. The theatre was SO HOT. Absolutely no air moving. Everyone was sweating and we were all fanning ourselves with our programs. One of the recipients even made a comment about it. Honestly, it was very uncomfortable. Maybe next year they can find an air conditioning sponsor.
Ok, off to a meeting. Happy day to all. (Happy Friday, Somms)

Morning peeps! I was highly insulted that they did not air my BFF receiving her award. Although I love Audra, I wanted Jan to win that award. As far as best musical I really didn't give a rat a$$ who won this year.
I am really having a hard time today believing our Rachel is gone.

Yeah, it so damn hot - and I'm never hot and I was sweating.
Boobs - did Addy tell you that we walked out of the theater with your BFF? I turned to Addy half way up the aisle (as BFF was chattering away) and said, "Wouldn't Boobs love to be right here right now?"
I'm having a hrad time getting back into the swing of things at work. When I walked in the office a coworker said, "Oh my God, you look awful! What did they do to you in New York?" Must have been the lack of sleep catching up with me. Either that or I've finally gotten old, fat and ugly. Either way, I need coffee.
It gets harder... the reality starts to set. I'm actually grateful that I am so immersed in work. To keep me distracted from my feelings. I fear that when I stop and let it sink in... it will be a floodgate of sadness and grief.
So, I'm having smiles at happy memories as often as I can to chase away the heartache.
Boobs, we were within inches of your BFF As we slowly shuffled up the aisle, we kept smiling on your behalf.

With all the crap I've gone through since April of 2010, well really summer 2009, well really I suppose it started with my moms passing in July 2008.....I think I finally realized that through it all...I'M STILL HERE!
(seeing Follies in LA last weekend, and hearing this song helped, too)
It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...
