If that site were a print publication, it would be "gracious" to categorize it as a tabloid.
If it were food, its flavor would rank with SPAM (actually, SPAM is better) or jellied eel.

And once again, "the left" did not create "cancel culture." "The right" did. Are you familiar with the McCarthy era? The conservative witch hunt that led to people being blacklisted and unable to work for over a decade? Maybe not since you're not American, but that was the 1950s, and conservatives were responsible, just as it's been conservatives responsible for getting people they didn't like fired for most of this country's history.

At the same time Ebersole was apparently performing with no ill effect for her beliefs in Grey Gardens, conservatives were boycotting the Dixie Chicks and burning their CDs. (Book burning? Also a common tactic...of conservatives.)

Cancel culture is and has always been a tactic wielded by conservatives.

Oh come on, the people who are trying to cancel Chenoweth are young people who did not learn it from McCarthyism and were likely not even adults during the Bush era. This type of behaviour and all centred around finding enemies of 'the left' is very much something that started relatively recently and specifically. It's crazy that you just won't take any accountability or responsibility for the very toxicity in the culture that you created. And now the ideology is so extreme that it literally causes a crazy person to shoot someone in the neck they disagree and they finally can't speak anymore, which is what many of you shockingly literally celebrate or endorse. Shocking. Outrageous.

And in fact, if you read my posts on this issue here before I EXPLICITLY used McCarthyism as an example to tell people why they needed to STOP this cancel culture when it has come up time and time again, to emphasise that they take for granted now that the cancellation happens to suit them but it could easily change. This is literally what I was warning would happen. Now, it's playing out in reality in real time. I guess I am shocked at how quickly and fast it's all happening, but this is what happens when you destroy a culture of free speech as you did.

I don't see anyone here trying to cancel Kristin Chenowith. There is confusion and disappointment and people have the right to express that. And what exactly is wrong with cancel culture if it rids the world of monsters like Weinstein and idiots like Zachary Levi?

Over on the OT Board, the last post of the Charlie Kirk thread states that "the problem" is the shooter and the left not condemning his actions enough (Seb clearly doesn't read the swanning centrist drama queens that make up the New York Times editorial board).. It got me thinking: Why is it that right wingers and reactionary moderates like binau seem to think that it is the left's job to babysit their feelings? Why is that ALWAYS the default position?

That is not true, and I’ve already explained in the off topic board that I only care to discuss issues where there is disagreement. All of the violence you referred to is obviously wrong. That doesn’t mean that ANYONE right now should be glorifying or supporting someone who was killed for expressing free speech. Who cares what right ring extremists thinks. Why do you have to lower yourself to literally believing fascist and terrorist ideas?

With all due respect, report for what? They just gave their opinion? It seems like "troll" is now being used to mean "someone on the Internet who said something I disagree with." It specifically means a person who says things in bad faith because they enjoy angering and annoying people.

That doesn’t mean that ANYONE right now should be glorifying or supporting someone who was killed for expressing free speech.



Who here is doing that? If the left isn't condemning this event enough, what will satisfy you? Which personality do you want to hear it from? What percentage of liberals do you want? Would you like some kind of pie chart? You want us to babysit your feelings? Fine. We'll babysit them, binau and Boris. What will make you stop crying? What?

I am asking you to please, please calm down and stop with this far left extremism that is now peak on display on this forum, this means:

1. Don't dismiss and call everyone 'MAGA' because they don't agree with absolutely everything you say - the idea of a purity test for being on the 'left' is why you're losing elections and public support absolutely everywhere, from the US, to the UK, to all across Europe.

2. Stop calling everyone Racist and be more careful when you do because otherwise it leads to terrible outcomes (see: The Great Comet Incident and the Patti/Kecia/Audra Drama)

3. Stop trying to cancel people who you don't agree with, because as I warned when the power changes you will be the one that suffers as you'll create a culture of cancellation

4. Stop being unreasonable when it comes to common sense issues, such as recognising biological men can never be in women's sports - almost all of the general population believe this

5. Don't glorify the death of someone for expressing free speech - if you do, get ready for more political violence. Remember, if you support people being killed for free speech you are literally the fascist you are meant to opposite, and are expressing terrorist ideology

6. Stop calling everyone Nazis, using phrases like 'words are violence' and stop calling everyone fascists if they disagree with you. In most cases, it actually just makes all the words lose value because you aren't using them appropriately and in some cases it can radicalise people

This is madness. I cannot believe we have got to this stage but for the sake of you, for everyone, please just be reasonable. These are common sense ideas that are now held by the majority of the population.

Your approach is not working. It is not helping anyone. It's making everything worse and our societies are getting less liberal and less progressive as a result.

There's nothing in the rules about violence, graphic or otherwise. I just checked.

Nothing, of course. Nothing will satisfy them. Because "the right" is good and "the left" is bad. Conservatives can harm as many liberals (or anyone else they want) and binau and boris wouldn't bat an eye (binau certainly wasn't demanding anyone condemn any acts of violence against Democrats before this). Conservatives are the only one who matter to them.

Conservatives have been actively glorifying violence against their opponents for years. The husband of the former of the US House of Representatives was bludgeoned in his home by a conservative. Charlie Kirk said the perpetrator was a patriot who should be bailed out of jail. But the problem is...leftist cancel culture?
