Just awful.
tiny, your first link is for another shooting at a church back in April. Unless I'm missing something I don't think it's the same guy who shot up the theater.

Awful. Heard them say on the news the youngest victim was 6 and the oldest 31.

Terrible news to wake up to.
Once again, a perfect illustration of why we need better gun control laws in this country.
Also, once again, Aaron Sorkin nailed it back when he was writing The West Wing. Two fantastic clips, one with the brilliant Allison Janney, the other the remarkable Richard Schiff.

Geez what a horrible situation. I never go to midnight movies cause I hate being in a packed movie theater. I'd never imagine something like this would happen.
Adam - no matter how strict gun control laws will be, if someone wants a gun they will find a way to get one.

Gun control isn't the problem. American disrespect for and devaluation of others is.
And that will get fixed real soon, right?
Meanwhile, I'll take strong gun-control laws with no parole for those found guilty of committing crimes with unregistered guns.

"Gun control isn't the problem. American disrespect for and devaluation of others is."
I don't think that has anything to do with it because we will have to wait for more info but most likely this guy is just some crazy lunatic. You can't fix crazy.

Yeah gun control laws are just fine. Things like this happen in every country all over the world!
Oh wait...no they don't. Because other countries know that average citizens don't need to own or have access to killing machines. But I am glad the police are busy cracking down on actors like Fred Willard beating off in a movie theater rather than cracking down on guns so others in the next theater over aren't shot dead by them.

'Gun control isn't the problem. American disrespect for and devaluation of others is.'
Oh come on, how long are so many people in America going to ignore or brush over the fact that the US gun laws are absurd. Of course the gun laws are to blame, look around at every other civilised country at there gun related incidents, they are about 1 percent of what the US have.
I'm sick of hearing that 'well they are so many guns on the streets so banning them would do nothing', well every other country who banned them also had that same issue but in time the guns faded out.
American is supposed to be a leading country in the world, a country that many others look to, yet when it comes to the ridiculous gun laws there it might as well be a third world country.
f**k the rights to own guns, if other countries can do without and get along fine then why can't the US? I mean how many mass shootings have to happen until somebody does something. People are to blame of course for acts of violence, but take away the guns and then that number will plummet. America should have woke up after Columbine.....they did not, it should have woke up after Virginia Tech....it did not, will it wake up after this.....no.
This is not an anti America post, i LOVE America and find Americans some of the nicest people on the planet, and i know many of you agree that guns should be banned, but this just get's me so f*****g angry.
This subject matter has affected me for years, Columbine broke my heart and led me to write my play Rage, but days like this i fear that nothing will ever change.
The excuse that some make that 'we have the right to protect ourselves', please, get an alarm, use the police, that's what they are paid for. America is no different from the UK etc, we can do without so can you.
Forget your rights to own guns, what about these peoples lives to live?
Sorry for the rant but i am sat here crying again over these victims, and i am sick of crying about it each time.

Many countries have guns available but don't experience the gun violence the US does.
It's the society, not the guns.

Posted: 7/20/12 at 9:46amI also read that a 3 month old was injured as well. Now why the hell is a 3 month old at a movie in the first place let alone a midnight movie.

It's the guns. If this lunatic needed a licence and a waiting period, all that would have happened last night is that he would have kicked down the door, let out a puff of smoke from a doobie and shouted "BANG!" into the crowded theater.
But this lunatic and any other can find guns easily, because we have allowed a greedy munitions industry to take our Second Amendment hostage.

Tell me the countries that have the same lazy gun laws that the US do? Iraq, Iran? please tell me.
'Tragedies due to mental illness will never end. I'm for gun control but lunatics can always find another way.'
Jordan is right, why make it so easy? If someone walks in with a knife, machete etc they are not gonna cause a fraction of the deaths that guns do, they would be taken down far quicker. All countries have people with mental illness etc, but it's America where this repeatedly happens.
The US society is apparently a civilised society like the UK, France, Spain, Germany etc, it has f**k all to do with society.
In Colorado the gun law reads that people can carry a loaded weapon in a car as long as it's to protect themselves or their property............how f*****g stupid, beyond stupid.
WAKE UP!!!!

Oh I agree that it is much, much too easy to get a gun here. My point though was that every time we hear about some tragedy or killing by some lunatic whether it's guns or not, I think it'll never end.
But yes, I'm all for strict gun control.
