My Mini Yorkshire Terrier just got hold of a godiva raspberry truffle.
My parents took it to the vet.
I think it's gonna die.
I'm upset now.
They'll pump the stomach, your dog will be fine. Especially if it was milk chocolate.
I don't think one piece can be too bad for it. My dog ate an entire package of M&Ms one day and he's fine.

I hope your puppy feels better soon.
My dog once at an entire tin of Ovaltine powder, a container of NesQuick and a Hershey's bar - in one day. She was perfectly fine. She still continues to eat chocolate - she loves it. Granted, she's a large dog - half Great Dane and half black Lab. I've never had a small dog, so I'm not sure what happens to them, but the vet will probably pump its stomach, as keaton said.
Your dog has good taste - Godiva truffles? Mmm. Just keep the sweets out of reach from now on. =]
My old dog, part pug part bulldog, used to get into chocolate all the time and he lived a very long life for a small dog.
I hope your dog is okay.

I hope they do a psych eval. It may have been a suicide attempt.
Or perhaps the dog is just an extraordinary risk taker...
My chocolate lab ate almost a whole can of cocoa and some other chocolate treats when we were remodeling our house, and he was on a HUGE sugar high for about 3 days and nights. He was fine, but slept for a week afterwards.
Apparently, grapes are really bad for dogs, all the sugar I guess. our neighbor's dog got into some and almost dies, so that's something to be careful for, especially if you have a dog that'll eat anything that will fit into his mouth.
First off, I LOVE Yorkies.
Secondly, everything will turn out fine. Chocolate just makes dogs sick to their stomach. It's not fatal or anything.
There seems to have been a rash of these threads lately.
As I understand it, dogs can't get to things they're not supposed to have if you put those things high up or in a drawer or cabinet or refrigerator.

Rath, I had it on a chest in my room, and I guess while I was gone, the dog jumped up there and grabbed it...all I know is that when I got home from breakfast, the gold foil wrapper was lying there with chocolate vomit next to the dog lying there.
Thanks for everyone who has given positive feedback.
Just one truffle? He should be fine. Especially since he's already puked. Dogs have to eat a lot of chocolate (relative to their size, of course) for it to do serious damage.
Actually, I believe Grapes although really not good for dogs, are ok,raisins however are very poisonous to them.
A dog has to eate a certain amount of chocolate in relation to it's body weight for it to be a serious health issue (chocolate poisoning can be fatal).
Other things poisonous to dogs are onions and avacados. The later gave my avatar the trots for a week!!

As I understand it, class isn't in session for schoolmarms until tomorrow at the earliest.

From Dog Owner's Digest:
Why is Chocolate Lethal?
Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.
Symptoms of Chocolate Dog Ingestion and Poisoning
You can recognize that your dog has eaten a toxic dose of chocolate from the symptoms. Within the first few hours, the evidence includes vomiting, diarrhea or hyperactivity. As time passes and there's increased absorption of the toxic substance, you'll see an increase in the dog's heart rate, which can cause arrhythmia, restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination or excessive panting. This can lead to hyperthermia, muscle tremors, seizures, coma and even death.
Fabrizio, any chance you're a relative or neighbor of Abba?

SNAFU, thanks for the help, I will make sure to let my parents know about that, I like grapes and will be sure to keep them away. Once again thanks for all of the help from everyone.
Namo, you're a bigger schoolmarm around here than I could ever hope to be.

Damn. I hate losing points.

You could win some back by not hitting return half a dozen times before you post. That bandwidth you're wasting can't be cheap, you know.
I believe that's the size of my av, but I don't have the technological wherewithal to fix it.

Really? Because it didn't happen when you were schoolmarming over in the Croc Hunter thread.
See?
Well, I'm not doing anything different.
And for the record, you started this "public private conversation" again. You have officially lost your right to schoolmarm about them.
Have a great holiday!
