Most teenagers do not know Babs other than the lady from the Focker movies, or maybe now, Road Trip. (and they don't scream DIVA.)
Will many of them LEARN about her? Sure. But she's only a diva to the 40 and up crowd. (with exceptions, of course)

"The fact that the actress will have to portray a character mourning the loss of a boyfriend, when that boyfriend is played by the boyfriend that passed."
That's her job. If she can't do it, she should step aside for someone who can.
And at least she can get some release by acting it out. Think of all the people who have a loved one die and have to go sit at a desk and can't in any way express their grief.

Sadly, this is very true and most don't even know her name. Todays maistream divas are stars like Beyonce and Lana del Rey. And for the theatre kids Lea and Megan Hilty.
Of course, I'm a teenager myself and Liza, Judy, and Babs will always be my supreme divas.

Sorry, Goth, this is a little more than 'her job'. It very oddly interwines her job with her life.
People have lots of ways of mourning that don't include their jobs. That's just a ridiculous statement.

For the record, I'm not some obsessed Lea fan, who thinks her pain is my pain. Actually Cory was my favorite in the show and I'm realy saddened by his loss. But I do love Lea's voice and acting and the rumors about her behavior don't change that. And on a human level I do understand the horrible position she must be in, right now !
Jordan, I don't think that there has been any doubt, even among her haters, that Lea is a professional ! I choose to believe that the 500 people who would be out of work, factored in her decision ! Given the circumstances, I don't think there was any other way to write Finn off, except him dying ! It woud be totally incosistent with the character to leave for some faraway land and not care about anyone any more, given the fact that he was the one having interactions with almost everyone in the show. Plus, the very vocal fandom would erupt and Murphy takes the Gleeks way too much into account !
jungle, Babs as a teenager's Diva ? Seriously ? Try Beyonce and Gaga !
dramamama, I've given up expecting sensitivity and emotion from Goth, a LOOOOOONG time ago ! LOL

I don't think it's sad at all. It's the natural order of things. Something would be off if somebody born in 1998 was obsessed with a woman whose career started in the early-'60s. It would be like some unrealistic character in a Bruce Kimmel novel.

Well, I was born on 1995, so I guess that makes it somewhat less "off."
But what about the Beatles?

Yes, but they were never old school showbiz designed to appeal to middle aged people, that was what Barbra was doing from the beginning. There was a generational dividing line, on the one side was rock and roll, on the other was gowns and tuxes and Frank and Judy. They were old school and that was where Barbra decided to go.
It isn't a surprise that thanks to careful marketing, the Beatles have retained some segment of a youth market. What you have in their catalogue is something that still appeals to some (but not all) young people: mostly original songs, guitars, and a cool factor. Barbra has been a lot of things in her life, but cool has never been one of them. It's not what she was after.

Posted: 7/22/13 at 1:27pmNamo is right, i was born way after John Lennon was killed. there is a freshness and a coolness to them even today. unlike Babs and Frank and the rest who seem really lame and date.

"Lame and date"
^ Excuse you!!
That's very true Namo. That generational dividing line is what I find sad. I find this generation for the most part to be so classless.
