I never intended this thread to become a Lea rag-athon.
I meant for it to be a discussion of why it might be most respectful to wait until sweeps month to premiere the show out of respect.

Since we don't know what they're planning on doing for the sweeps episode, it's hard to have that discussion.
If Murphy et al decide to go balls out and big and cheesy, it could work. If they decide to do a simple, quiet episode, that might work too.
I haven't watched the show in a while and I haven't been keeping up with the story lines, so I'm not really qualified to say what they'll do.
I guess it depends on what the creative team decides to do with Finn. Can they work it in so that he's still alive, but moves on? Will they kill him off? We'll have to see.

ljay, you get what you give. "Dame Lea" deserves it. Sorry
So because she's a bitch she deserves to be ridiculed and **** talked about the death of her boyfriend. Jesus Christ, she's not Pat Robertson or Shirley Phelps-Roper. Get a little damn perspective.

'she's young, she will get over it'
You dumb sick moron, I lost my partner in the early 2000s, I was around her age. Should I be over it?
People on here have gone WAY too far, all the typical ones trying to out do each other with smart remarks, get a bloody life. You bitch about this girl like you know her....you don't, you have just decided to label her like people do when you join high school (somewhere I'm sure you were all so popular...not), hate her or not, hate Glee or not, a young man died, his girlfriend is devastated .....and no I'm sure from experience she won't just get over it, it will stay with her forever.
Show some damn heart

I suppose it's too much to hope for a Glee episode that has an overdose prevention subplot?

Posted: 7/21/13 at 1:51amI don't know how they are going to write in Finn having a substance abuse. He never did in the show, so to randomly have Finn pass away from an ovedose within the show is not going to sit right. I can see them sometime this season having an episode dedicated to discussing an issue such as that. But in the GLEE world, I feel like they might have Finn pass away from something else.

That Johnston piece was pretty powerful.

They're going to do 3 episodes. The first 2 were already written and just needed to be revised a bit. The third episode is going to be a Montieth tribute (no word on how, it's not even written yet).
After that the show will go hiatus while Murphy and the other creatives decide whether to continue at all.
Also, according to Murphy the decision to resume filming even for those 3 episodes was completely Lea's. Had she said "no, I can't do this" they would have agreed.
I'll try to find the link.

This has some inconsistencies with what I posted above, but it's the latest from SFCC. I'm still trying to recall where I read Murphy's statement so I can link it.
The word from Comic Con: Cory Monteith’s “Glee” character will be killed off in the third episode of the new season. Show creator Ryan Murphy will start the new season with a two part Beatles tribute (which must make the folks at Sony/ATV Music Publishing very happy as they enter the Beatles’ 50th anniversary year in America).
Monteith (and presumably Lea Michele) will be written out of those shows. Then in episode 3, Finn will die. There will be a tribute to him and to Monteith. Then the show will go on hiatus so Murphy can decide what to do without Finn, and what will happen to Lea Michele’s Rachel if she stays with the show.
Murphy gave a lot of interviews at Comic Con, and this much can be gleaned: he conducted an intervention with Murphy in March, which is what sent the actor to rehab. So everyone at “Glee” knew what was up, and Murphy, I think with unusual compassion, tried to get Monteith the help he needed.
When Monteith returned from rehab, he voiced fears to Murphy that his drug addiction and rehab would cause him to be fired. Murphy says he reassured him that he would not. The rest, we know.
Monteith’s death is a tragedy, but “Glee” would have gone on without him whether or not Murphy and Michele wanted it to or not. “Glee” is a business, and it supports hundreds of people. Fox needs it, the producers need more episodes for syndication, and all the other actors and crew have contracts.
I do expect Murphy will handle Finn’s — and Monteith’s — death with great sensitivity. And has he’s indicated in all his interviews, it may be a catharsis for the audience as well.

Sorry, last post.
Here is Murphy's comment:
Murphy told E! that he would have ended the show if that’s what the actress had wanted. “If Lea had said to me, ‘I could never do this again and I don’t want to do this again,’ you know, she is sort of the show, so what do you do? And I would’ve, out of respect to her as a person, said ‘okay,’ but that’s not how Lea operates.” He continued, “Everyone involved made the decision, ‘Okay, what does Lea want to do, what would Lea feel comfortable doing?’ This is what she wants to do…. We followed her lead.”

Ryan Murphy would have put all those people out of work and canceled a show that has already been renewed by Fox for two more years if Lea Michele had said she didn't want to do it anymore?
I call the biggest bullshlt I've ever called on that. While anyone's death is tragic, like that article says, GLEE is a business. And you don't just shut the business down when one person (who in all honesty was hardly a part of the show anymore, anyway) leaves. And as if FOX would have let the show just end when they have so much money invested and riding on it. That statement is more ridiculous than any storyline Ryan Murphy could ever come up with.

I've never been called a dumb sick moron before, so thanks!
Are you over it?
Back on topic... I guess she really is Dame Lea now, since she has so much power to kill a show.

Posted: 7/21/13 at 10:50am^ I actually agree with you, Jordan. I mean, ABC and the creators of the show 8 Simple Rules did not cancel it after John Ritter died. I think John Ritter in that role is a bigger deal than almost anyone on Glee now, just by what they did to the show. Had it been like the first 3 seasons, I could say it could be a bigger deal.

Posted: 7/21/13 at 12:38pmReally Ryan Murphy? The woman you forced to do those Glee tours when she didn't want to has the sole power to end Glee. I don't even watch the show or follow her that closely but it would seem she wanted to leave since her character graduated.

I think the posts slamming Lea are pretty harsh. (and I'm not a fan, at all.) Even if he weren't her boyfriend, it's pretty devastating event in a young person's life.
It's hard enough for many, dealing with death at any age, but being young and dealing with the death of someone your age, is incredibly difficult.

Why did Ryan Murphy call this "Damage Control" in his remarks? That sounds like he is trying to cover up bad press. Sorry, but a death can be awful but I would not call this "Damage Control" because someone died.
"We will begin shooting in late August the two shows we had already written, so that people can physically go back to work,” Murphy said. “We will then do an episode that will deal with the death of Finn’s character and follow that with a long hiatus. I don’t know exactly when we will come back, and we are trying our best with this attempt at damage control. We are planning a memorial for the cast and crew sometime this week on the Paramount lot."

My mother passed away when I was 14. I haven't gotten over it.
When people react so dramatically to events that don't include them - the fact that they take it so personally - makes me laugh. I'm not a jackass. I've accepted the fact that we will die. Other people have not. I will die. You will die. Eventually Dame Lea will die.

Okay but here's the thing...
No one on this thread was directly effected by this guy's death. None of us are being "overly sensitive" about his death either. What people are reacting to is the insane amount of hostility and general lack of class in this thread in regards to Michele's loss.
People making jokes about a young woman's boyfriend dying? That's just scummy. If this was a Broadway star who is held highly on these boards going through this difficult time, a joke that was aimed at her expense would result in World War 3.
