I like it, though I don't doubt for a second that the "leak" this weekend was intentionally done so she could release this a week early and cut Katy Perry off at the pass.

I haven't listened to any of these leaky links, because I'm an old scholol album-oriented guy. I've been loving the new Daft Punk and Pet Shop Boys albums and "Yes, It's True," The Polyphonic Spree's new masterpiece. However, earlier today, SPIN set out a link to "Applause" calling it Gaga's forgettable new song, "the sound of one pop star clapping-- for herself," which made me lol. I still haven't listened to it though. Or did I?

what is more interesting is the cover art for the single.

usually at least find Gaga's lead singles catchy, but I admit this sounds basically like an album track.

(And yes, Pet Shop Boys' new album is near flawless--can't wait to see their tour.)

She manages to steal from Grace Jones and Missing Persons simultaneously. It's not horrible, but its not groundbreaking or inventive.

Gaga is talented. when she's raw on a piano.

but this music, and all her imagery- borrowed from mainly Madonna's book- is just downright annoying.

OK first of all Pet Shop Boys album is awesome

Lady Gaga's applause however is very very dated. The chorus feels like it's come from the 90s club charts (though its catchy) and the versus are forgettable, and that David Bowie thing she is doing with her voice is irritating as hell. Also how many songs about her been famous etc do we need?

The thing that annoys the hell out of me is that press release for the album where it makes it sound like its going to be the second coming and turn the music industry on it's head. Though re reading the press release it's all about the 'ground breaking App (even though Bjork already did it) and very little about the music.....i think that sums her up right now.

Today she made a statement encouraging fans to NOT buy her music and saying that she "is over", blah blah blah. It's really annoying. I think she knows the album is going to tank, so she wants to say, "see my fans listened."

I've always been a defender of Lady Gaga, not because her music is revolutionary (as you guys have said, she "pays homage" to a lot of people before her), but because she's a great performer and I actually enjoy most of her songs. Having said that, there's something so tired about this track; maybe it's the pretentiousness behind the whole affair, she went from being a lot of fun to listen to (and having some smart, interesting lyrics at times) to this strange, not-so-original song. The lyrics are terrible too. We'll see how this album turns out.

Nostalgic dance music is in and at the top of the charts. Saying Lady Gaga quotes and derives from older artist is tired at this point. Honestly she helped bring that trend up, though among several other artists who helped do it.

But this track is middle of the road Gaga.

I just learned that Gaga was born in 1986 so it's now easy for me to gather that she's been heavily influenced by 80's synthesizer pop & underground vibe. Katy Perry, Rihanna, and she are children of the 80's which explains a great deal to me at least. I'm not really familiar with either artist's catalog other than the occasional tune that someone picks or pans here @ bww.

She must be pissed that the song is stuck at #2 on iTunes, while Katy Perry is #1.
