I'm online trying to book a late Fri flight out of the metro area. I just hope the event goes off without incident.

I just saw this story. I really don't understand it.
I don't understand what the purpose is. I don't understand what he means when he says he wants to "reclaim the civil rights movement".
My only guess is that he's attempting to comabt the widespread belief that the Tea Party is racist.
Next to Enright being pro Cordoba House this is the biggest contradiction of the week.
I bet Laura Schlessinger will be a keynote speaker.

tazber, that's kinda how I feel about the Tea Party in general. I don't understand exactly what it is they're complaining about (other than having a black president).

Yipee, is this what I have to look forward to this weekend in DC. I've already ridden by the Lincoln Memorial on my bicycle and the "Restoring Honor" signage is up in all its glory.

Oh good for you Glenn, reclaim civil rights for those wealthy heterosexual white American males- truly the most oppressed people in history.

Roxy once called white heterosexual males an endangered species and the only ones it was okay to make fun of anymore.
But then again he's a douchebag.
Wait, is that a hate crime?
Fun!

I would expect nothing less from you NAMO. You are a very sad bitter person and I do feel sorry for you.

Yeah right, like he didn't realize he had scheduled it on the anniversary. That's a mighty big coincidence. And it's a mockery of everything associated with both Martin Luther King Jr.

Oh, Roxy, you're irony deficient.

A big part of the scare tactics used by the far right is the concept that if someone else is gaining rights, white folk (especially men) must be losing them. So, if gays are allowed to marry, if Muslims are allowed to practice their religion, if women receive equal pay, then white folk must be losing something.

Check out this wonderful piece by Leonard Pitts in answer to Glenn Beck's comments.

"We are on the right side of history. We are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and damn it, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement, because we were the people that did it in the first place!'
I don't remember too many doughy, spittle-flecked white guys being on the right side of history in my textbooks growing up. It must be that gosh-darned LIB-RUHL media distorting it all for me.

And no one grew into anything new, we just became the worst of what we were."

On the side of individual liberties? When? Only if the individual is not gay, Muslim, black, Hispanic, Asian, female, anti-war, pro-abortion, socialist, "socialist", liberal, Democrat, educated, etc. etc. etc.?

Martin Luther King's niece is speaking at the Beck event. I just talked to a friend in DC who is on her way to an event and she said the cars are rolling in with KKK on their license plates.
I am still trying to figure out how Beck got that spot first for his event.

Yeah, the right side of history.
When Jerry Falwell died, Ann Coulter wrote a column said she agreed with every single word he ever said. I wonder if that included his diatribes against school desegregation?

From his opening comments at the rally:
"Something beyond imagination is happening. Something that is beyond man is happening. America today begins to turn back to God,"
*sigh*

BREAKING: U.S. National Park Service will be strapping down the Lincoln statue so that it doesn't get up & walk off during Glenn Beck rally.

They seem to have been correct - it isn't so much a political rally as it is a good old-fashioned tent revival.

It astounds me how many people loathe Obama. I can get not agreeing with his politics, but they seem to be taking it to a whole new level beyond comprehension.

When asked about Palin's address, someone said, "She is the mother of the soldiers. You have to appreciate where she is coming from." So now she is what mothers should aspire to be?
While I have a hard time understanding anyone who supports that woman, I will never understand women who do. At all.

At this point I'd just settle for a civil liberties movement.
