Madonna really made me laugh with that line.
And I was happy Scorcrse won. That film will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Insulting a man by calling him "a girl" doesn't quite work for me. It manages to degrade the man and by doing so, all women, at the same time.
On top of that bullying a man by calling him a girl, besides being juvenile and bigoted in its suppositions about what is masculine and what is feminine, is the last thing I'd expect from a woman justly famous for breaking down sexual stereotypes.
I'm sure Gervais didn't mind it, it was probably pre-written, maybe even by him, so it's not that I'm concerned about his feelings.
I know, I know. I'm way too serious, overly p.c., and a real pain in the butt.

I thought Madonna's comment was tacky and proved that Gervais is better at putdowns.

I think you should all lighten up. It's getting to the point where you can't joke about anything without someone getting all pissy and PC about it.

Luscious, most of us have a sense of what is edgy, provocative, fun without being moronic, discourteous, dim-witted or offensive. Isn't ok for us to simply disagree about when the line has been crossed? Moreover, on a thread about a tv program, isn't it worthwhile to exchange thoughts about what was said?

"Not too mention the plot outside the Melies sideline was also mildly sweet, cutesy cartoonish, and hugely forgettable."
It was also effectively resolved about an hour into the film.

I am glad Tin Tin won.It was the most fun I have had at the movies in quite a long time.
I enjoyed Hugo & I am glad Marty got it as a consolation prize as it tanked at the box office.
Grammer should not have won. It should have been the Homeland star.

^ I agree Damien Lewis for Homeland should have one... but Bryan Cranston is just on a different level than the other nominees. I felt he did his best work on BREAKING BAD to date with this past season. He was riveting.
So happy for Scorsese! Hugo was my favorite film of the year and I've seen almost all of the Best Picture nominees this year. He wont win the Oscar but he should just for his snubs on Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfella's.

"(HUGO's framing story about the kid living in the trainstation) was effectively resolved about an hour into the film."
Which didn't stop Scorsese etc. from engineering a completely suspense free final Big Chase Scene through the train station's clocktower, complete with references to VERTIGO, MC Escher, and Harold Lloyd, before going back for the Big Finish where Papa Georges gets his Standing Ovation.
Barf.
