"child, you have SO much to learn"
God, could BE a little more condescending?
And I completely agree about there being an age gap- it was one of the first things I noticed. All of the attendings are late 30s/early 40s, actually. And the interns are probably supposed to be late 20s. That's 10-15 yrs difference. Bailey and Callie are somewhere in between.
But it's not just that 10-15 years is a big age difference- the important part is that the interns, who are in their first year of residency, are more or less clueless about what they're supposed to be doing. Furthermore, despite the fact that there are attendings in the show, the focus is primarily on the interns. That's what makes the difference. The people in LA are all comfortable and settled into their career (with an occasional exception from time to time,) whereas the interns are just starting and still learning. So it definitely creates a very different feeling among the coworkers.
As for the audience that it attracts, this WOULD make a difference. Grey's would attract younger people, definitely, than the LA spinoff would.
i completely agree with everything you just said... and that is exactly what i was getting at (without actually eloquently saying) that the issues of the LA people are going to be a lot more mature than those in Seattle...
ridiculous....why waste my time
"Clumsy, I am thinking they should show Piz shirtless on VM more often!"
Clumsy would be a happy boy if that would occur.

New episode tonight. I wonder what fresh hell they'll foist upon us this week. I was reading the TWoP recap of last week's episode and I was struck by this passage (referring to the moment after Thatcher smacked Meredith when she told him Susan had died):
And so with this death, the changes in Meredith -- the recovering from drowning, the working to accept her mother's death, the learning how to have someone like Susan in her life -- all of it is shot to hell. When we could have seen some really interesting development after three dark and twisty Meredith seasons, we now get more of the same as even more bad things continue to happen. I'm not even angry now, I'm just terribly disappointed by the direction in which most of these characters are going.
I just can't figure out WTF has been going with this show the past few months. It's as though Rhimes and Co have suddenly developed a seething contempt for most of these characters.
I had hoped the show would pick up after the ridiculous February sweeps 3-parter, but I'm really not interested anymore. The only characters I like are Bailey (mostly absent), Callie (on the way to heartbreak and/or less screen time?), and Addison (silly spin-off).
I'll be watching the super sized Office instead.
Kate Walsh was on Ellen today and Ellen called the President of ABC during the show and pretty much confirmed that the Addison spin-off will be picked up for the fall.
Kringas: Thanks for posting that. It's so true. All that growth that she had just got thrown out the window. I guess the writers just wanted more drama in the show than there needed to be.

Kate on Ellen was the cutest
and yeah... I still adore Grey's. There've been things about the latest episodes that I really like. But there are also things that I'm just getting so frustrated with, and I don't understand why Shonda and Co., who are usually SO good, feel the need to drag it out like this. Izzie and George I am fine with at this point, they just need to stop being angsty already and BE TOGETHER. That's all I ask. I dont mind them I really dont, I just can't handle all the "noooo we can't. we want to so badly but we caaaan't" nonsense. And with Meredith and Derek I think they're going through the usual syndrom of not liking having the two main characters just be happy together. The Derek questioning things I was even growing okay with because it made sense. Like Meredith said, the drowning experience was very different for him than it was for her. But now with him walking away and it looking like he's going to cheat? And with Susan dying in general. That just DIDNT have to happen.I feel like they did it simply because they feared it would be too boring if they didn't create some kind of complication for them. And, for me at least, it WOULDNT be. I love seeing happy couples! That's why I was SO happy in the whole first half or so of this season that they were just together and things were good and they were being all sweet with each other. There was plenty of other drama going on to make up for it. Now it's like.. back to the same old angst from season 2, only worse because it's really for no reason. The other thing I'm getting worried about is Burke and Cristina. They're the ONE couple who seem (or at least seemed) to be going pretty darn strong and now, judging from the title of the finale- Didn't We Almost Have it All- THEY might not end up happy/together either! must the writers break up EVERY original couple they created?
That said, things I like about the show:
-loving Mark's growth. He's actually probably the one I'm feeling worst for right now, which I NEVER thought would happen! But he's being so selfless and it really shows how much he loves Addison
-call me crazy, but I really enjoyed the spin off- and am enjoying it even MORE the more I watch it over. In fact, I kind of almost LOVE it :P It's probably just because I will forever be most interested in Addison as a character and Kate as an actress, and am basically bound to love anything she does. there are other characters I love (Bailey and Cristina and.. well, up until recently, Izzie) but for some reason Addison is just the character that no matter what I will ALWAYS watch her scenes the most intently. So yeah, I really enjoy the spin off. And Kate and Tim/Addison and Pete are officially my favorite couple
they have the most incredible chemistry! And this is coming from someone who was Addison/Alex all the way up until last episode! So yeah, I'm really looking foward to that progressing. Plus, the show in general is just so light and fun and the characters are wonderful and quirkey! and they have awesome chemistry as a cast already!
-Although he was such a jerk, I am really intrigued by what's going on with Alex right now. I'm hoping to death that he's NOT falling for Ava, and that it's only appearing that way because he's coming to see her as kind of a confidant and someone he can connect with and confide in. Because I think that could open the door to some very interesting findings about his past, which we still know so little about. So yeah, *crosses fingers its going in that direction- which would be brilliant writing if so- and not in the re-izzie/denny direction*
wow, WAY long post. sorry about that! haha
The pilot didn't interest me. It was neither here nor there. The best moments for me were when Addison kept putting her foot in her mouth trying to explain the whole "elevator sex" thing. Other than that, everything just seemed so...forced, I guess is the word I'm looking for. The characters annoyed me. They just seemed so generic. I think pilots are like meeting people for the first time...they need to make a good first impression. This did not. I'm going to keep watching it though, just 'cause I love Kate Walsh and Addison. And who knows, maybe it'll get better.
I can't believe they squeezed all that really important Grey's stuff into like, half an hour! First of all, Susan dying was actually the stupidest thing that's ever happened on Grey's Anatomy. It was so obviously meant to be an obstacle for Meredith and Thatcher. At this point, it's just becoming ridiculous. Meredith is dark and twisty, yes, we get it. Seriously, like so much bad sh*t has happened to her that like, she could jump into the path of an oncoming train and I'd just be like "here we go again". And we're supposed to have sympathy for her!
The spin-off definitely had me laughing because some of the stuff they put into it was just STUPID. The MAIN thing that got to me was that kiss. Where in the WORLD did that come from?? I mean, come on now. The only good parts about the spin-off are that Addison gets more air-time and gets to stumble through a decent amount of her lines, which she does perfectly. I know I'm still gonna watch it, but it may be one of the dumbest shows I've seen in a long time.
I agree completely, Tchi. I'll watch it, but it's dumb as hell.
It's clearly not gonna be smooth sailing for Burke and Cristina -- which is unfortunate, because their relationship is the most realistic on the show. Sometimes, it's okay if one partner or the other has cold feet or isn't into wedding planning. They are so affectionate and so clearly in love that it's going to drive me crazy when conflict arises over the wedding. Cristina is just not that kind of person, and it's stupid if Burke can't accept/see past that.

lol, I loved the kiss- and even the admitedly cheesy line that came before it- but that's me
now the one thing I DO hope is that, assuming the spin off continues, Addison will go back to being more.. Addison-like. I LOVE the more Kate Walshy Addison too (for anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, just youtube Kate and watch some of her interviews- Addison as a character was SO much more Kate-like in the spin off episode hehe), and I thought she was adorable and totally heartbreaking in the sad scenes, but it would be such a shame to loose the SGH Addison- the hardcore super brilliant surgeon Addison that finally came out again in the surgery scene and the scene after it where she was telling the three guys off. I think it'll be cool to see kind of a mixture of the two- for her to keep some of that bubbliness she gained from not being as depressed, but also to maintain the composure and coolness that made her so likeable in the first place :)
The whole George and Izzie thing is just about unbearable for me at this point. Their relationship before they slept together was one of the best parts of the show for me, and I can't stand how she's all of a sudden in love with him.
And I didn't really care for the Addison show either. I can't see myself actually caring about any of the characters.
I love how everyone is getting pregnant around Addison, and her reaction. Definately over the George and Izzy thing......but still love the show.
And I DO like the Addison spin-off, hope it takes.
I loved last night's episode. I think the relationship between Callie and Addison is amazing. The frozen patient guys were kind of weird, though.
SPOILERS..................
yeah, there is much more to those frozen guys than meets the eye, I mean.....how did that hatchet get in the guys head?
Yeah, I agree (about the mountain climbers)...I kind of hope we find out their story. But we probably won't, since the whole George/Izzie thing takes up like, half of every episode. They either need to get together or not, 'cause this back-and-forth thing they're doing is SO ANNOYING. Is it just me or did the whole idea of them being madly in love just come out of nowhere? I really miss that cute, brother-sister friendship they used to have. I mean, now Izzie can't just get into bed with George and share ice cream and complain about her life. Everything is so SERIOUS now. It sucks.
I'll probably watch the finale just to wrap the season up, but unless I'm really wowed by it, I think my Grey's days are over. Sorry Chandra Wilson, Sara Ramirez, and Kate Walsh. My love for you ladies isn't enough anymore.

The mountain climber guys, with what I assumed were frostbitten brown noses, just looked like they were wearing puppy dog makeup.

I actually thought last night was great. I was pleasantly surprised. And I'm glad they're starting to bring Addison back into Grey's. In the few episodes leading up to the spinoff, we didn't see hardly any of her. I do think the George and Izzie stuff is forced though.
Favorite quote:
Addison: I'm being stalked by pregnant women.
Callie: You're and obstetrician.
I think they will continue with the story of the mountain guys, and I'm intrigued. I'm also really interested to see where they take the rest of the Ava/Rebecca character.

Alright, a few things. You guys should all really read the writers blog and listen to the podcast. Call it what you want but according to Shonda Rhimes, the 2 hour episode wasn't the pilot for a spin off.
That aside, let me address the episode.
I liked it. A LOT. It's the first one in a while I've felt really emotionally invested in. Maybe cause so much of it hit so close to home. Maybe because so much of it pulled so much at my heart strings... I dont know.
(PS who watched Traveler after it? I might have to watch the next episode to see what happens)
Back to Grey's. Meredith... Oooh Meredith. She took a big step in wanting to go to Susan's funeral. A BIG step. Not too long ago she was pushing both Susan and her father away, telling Susan she wasn't her family. Here she is making strides, with Susan pushing for them all to make the effort and make those strides and now the glue that was holding them all together is gone. Essentially, Susan was the glue between Meredith and her father. Glue that had clearly not dried yet.... hence, how quickly it all fell apart.
I think Thatcher showing up at the hospital drunk to again, blame Meredith for Susan's death was a little much. One of his other daughters was with him and obviously an adult... she should have kept that from happening. Unless, she too, blames Meredith. Then the whole thing gets a little more dark and twisty.
I understand Richard's need and want to protect Meredith and be there for her. After all, he was there for her growing up and he did promise Ellis he would watch out for her and take care of her. As much as it's evident that Meredith does appreciate that, I think in that moment when it all fell apart (again and very publicly) with her father, she blamed Richard. She blamed him for breaking up her parents marriage and her father leaving and for the very fact that she has no relationship with Thatcher as an adult. I feel her. I can relate.
Now Derek..... Derek needs to suck it up and be a freaking man. Grow a set and be there for the woman you love. You DO love her after all and though there is a fine line between hovering and being there for her, you know that line. You've danced that line. Don't walk away like a defeated child. He's pissing me off.
Izzie and George... to quote what losingmyreligion said:
I mean, now Izzie can't just get into bed with George and share ice cream and complain about her life. Everything is so SERIOUS now. It sucks.
That's how it happens. Sex makes it serious. Especially if you "messed up" like George and Izzie did. It can never go back to being what it was. They've essentially opened Pandora's Box and because George is married they can't go through with what's there.... and they certainly can't close the box again. That I know from personal experience.
The Ava/Rebecca storyline bores me. Snoozefest.
I did like that Addison was the only woman invited to Burke's bachelor party and the little exchange about how she wasn't gonna take her clothes off. Loved that.
Adelle... I wonder what's going on there. I'm assuming miscarriage, but we'll see next episode.
And the pregnancy thing being thrown in Addison's face every 5 seconds.....? not funny after like, the 2nd time. She's an OBGYN. Way to kill a joke. But way to revive it with the comment from Callie.
I'll be interested to see how they wrap up the season next week.
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
