Who else is going to go to IHOP today to get their free short stack of pancakes?
Free Short Stack beween 7 AM and 2 PM
Around here it's Fastnacht Day...and you celebrate by eating donuts! Tradition had it that the Pennsylvania Dutch did this as a way to get rid of all the extra lard, sugar and 'sweets" before fasting for Lent. I'm PA Dutch, so I say, any excuse to eat donuts is a good one!
HAPPY MARDI GRAIS, Remember "Lassier les bons temps rouler!!"
"It seems as if my trunk has exploded."
Happy Mardi Grais!
Happy Mardi Gras to all.
and, yes, a stack of pancakes awaits... (just not at Ihop)
LOL!
Here it's just called International Pancake Day. We're a boring lot.
"Petrouchka" takes place at Shrovetide and Cranko's "Taming of the Shrew" has a Fasching Carnival scene.
i ate like a beast from valentines day through last weekend so i have reinstituted my south beach principles. going to see cate blanchett tonight at BAM will be my indulgence. (ps. it's my third anniversary)

Happy anniversary, GG. What a lovely way to celebrate!
The cafeteria here had an all-pancake breakfast. Gumbo and jambalaya for lunch with king cake for dessert. We will also have cotton candy machines and popcorn machines running throughout lunch and there are big bowls of candy and trinkets on each cafeteria table. We're playing dixieland jazz in throughout the building at the change of classes and the whole building is decorated in green, gold and purple.
We take Mardi Gras very seriously here. Gotta love it!
Moony may I work with you today?

Sure, mom, come on down! It's a party all day long!!
thanks blue. time got away from me this year. i usually order king cakes from the ambrosia bakery in baton rouge and have them sent in those festive fedex boxes to friends across the country. it was even Mahashivaratri the other night and i had no idea until the day before. i am certainly out of it!

GG - the bakery in New Orleans from which I normally order king cakes was unable to ship any out this year. Certainly understandable. I had heard that bakeries elsewhere in Louisiana - including Baton Rouge - were suspending shipments this year because they are trying to take care of in-state orders normally covered by bakeries which are now closed. An unfortunate collateral damage from Katrina.
so sorry to hear that! everyone should have a king cake at least once! here is a link to my favorite King Cake place:

Mmmmmmm....pecan praline....I HAVE to try that!
We ended up cheating - we made our own using a cinnamon roll that we shaped into a circle, baking and frosting. We needed 50 cakes for the whole school so it seemed like the easiest way to go.
Have a happy celebration tonight! My best to you and your partner!
my area's been advertising it which is kinda stupid since the nearest IHOP is like 2-3hrs away...sounds pretty cool though...you know if it was in my city or any neighboring cities lol...Louisville, I guess, is just really boring...
an easy way to make pancakes is to get one of those boxes of jiffy corn muffin mix and adjust the instructions for corn cakes (it's on the box) very easy and CHEAP!!

I never knew about pancakes and Shrove Tuesday.. Now I know what I'll have for lunch!
Why do I feel like throwing beads at those stacks?
I'm giving up chocolate for Lent.
I am eating it right now to make up for the fact that I won't be eating it for the next 40 days.
