Oh, Pat! You know I was just joshin' with ya! PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters! But really, it is a must see for the sheer random absurdity of it. Not to be missed.

Nic, you've seen Broken Flowers, right? Has anyone else seen it? What did you all think of it? I just watched it and I'm not sure how I feel! The ending sorta frustrated me, although I understand why it ended that way.

The Strokes are on Letterman tonight! Watching them will be a nice way to prepare for Saturday's concert! Updated On: 2/27/06 at 11:09 PM

Has Pat forsaken our thread? Way to GO, Nic! PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

Oooh, Strokes on Letterman. Will try to catch that!

(Oh, I think you asked me this earlier, Nic, and I forgot to reply - yeah, we finally picked up the FF tix - the problem with the end stage format and us not knowing if it's open or if the 3 sides will be obstructing us is we couldn't decide whether we should buy tickets for the section right next to the stage or something farther back where we'd have a less-obstructed view. I would've rather had the former but Nadia bought the tickets that are in the corner opposite to the stage. I don't know what I think about that. It's not like the side-seats are literally next to the stage, like where we were on 10/10 - it's technically in the section...oh, here it is:

PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

We could've had section I, but she chose section C.

I will say there is nothing "sexy" about that scene. It is once again a bit of the tradmark Speilberg "attempt" to say something profound, that is infact repulsive and demeaning.
Don't even get me started on the emotional riffraff I think the very last scene of the movie is SUPPOSED to evoke.

Which just reminds me that I really need to get my ass going on HP6! I really thought I'd be finished HP5 by now but too much has been going on to really sit down and read! I hope I'm not too far behind by the time I DO get to the HP6 discussion. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

I hope you're right, Clay! I'll probably try to read through the entire thread before I start posting just in case. (But, but, but JFTR, I TOTALLY called it the moment I saw that when I first read the book. Give me some credit - I'm hopeless with these clues.)

Claire, yeah, I saw Broken Flowers. I liked it. I definitely want to watch it again before I really decide how I feel about it (especially since I watched it on DVD the night I got my wisdom teeth yanked and I might not have been 100% with it!). Personally, I think he just made the whole damn thing up, because he was a lonely old man. I think he totally embellished his whole Casanova of yester-year business and he was a total loner (I don't remember, did they actually show him with anyone? There was that woman at the very beginning who was leaving, I guess). Anyway, yeah, my (not so well thought out, or particularly well founded) theory is that he wrote the letter himself, just to get Jeffrey Wright's character to come over and have more of an excuse to talk to someone, etc.

I missed The Strokes on Letterman. I read about it earlier yesterday, and then I put Leno on to watch Headlines, fell asleep, and shuffled off to bed (before the show was over, so I totally still could have caught The Strokes on Letterman, but I'd forgotten by that point).

Tiff, I think the section I seats would have probably been better, but that's just me liking to be close (I'd rather be high and close than on the lower level and across the arena). I'm sure the Cs will be fine too. At least you're in the building!

ETA: Pat, did you end up catching Good Night and Good Luck last night?

I did not make it to "Good Night, and Good Luck." It's raining out here and there is just this overwhelming desire to board up inside your house in SoCal when there is liquid falling from the sky. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

It comes out on DVD on the 15th, I think I'll just catch it then.

Well, of course that counts for something! It's always fab to have a nice evening.

I've been behind on the podcsts, I must admit. I have to update iTunes to listen to the podcasts, which I have yet to do, and for some reason the link you put to listen to the streaming audio just kind of sits there for me and never loads. It sounds like I'm missing out on some quality entertainment though! I'll get it straightend out one of these days.

That's very odd.

I will put episode one up on yousend it or megaupload later today. Maybe that will help. :)

SON OF A BIIIITTTTCCCCHHHH!!! I just got a box of three books from Amazon for my Dylan project, and two of them are the same damn thing. Well, one is a revised and expanded edition of another one...But with a different title. Should not be allowed! I had two that I wanted and it came to like $24 and some change, and if you have $25 worth of stuff, you get free shipping, so I figured, I might as well get another book and get the free shipping rather than spend $7-8 on shipping. So, I quickly skimmed and found something else that looked interesting/helpful without really examining it. Now who would think Chimes of Freedom: The Politics of Bob Dylan's Art and Wicked Messenger: Bob Dylan and the 1960s are the same book?!? The Wicked Messenger one has "Chimes of Freedom" as a sub-sub heading, but that didn't come up on the main title on Amazon (or on my receipt). PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters! What an ass!

Aaannyway, thanks for looking into that, Pat! I really could just go and upgrade my iTunes, but a yousendit link would be helpful for the time being. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

Well, at least I'm not the only one who's been (or nearly been) duped by misleading titles. While I probably should have looked into what I was buying more closely, it really was misleading. Even the Editorial Reviews on Amazon for the revised edition (which I didn't look at before buying it; not that it matters, because they) say nothing about it being a revised edition of Chimes of Freedom.

I like your new av, btw, Clay! That penquin means business. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

Nic, that sucks about buying the same book twice! Can you return or exchange one?

Your Broken Flowers theory is interesting! I thought Sherry (Julie Delpy, his girlfriend at the beginning) wrote the letter in order to get him to start thinking about family. I thought Jeffrey Wright's character might be in on it, too. Who knows, though.

The Strokes were good on Letterman, although it's not like you missed a mind-blowing performance or anything. They did Heart in a Cage, which seemed like a surprising choice to me, but it was good. Bruce Willis was on as well, and he was hilarious. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

Very sketchy title(s)! The pisser was that I was so excited that I'd really cleaned up getting pretty much just what I wanted. I picked up a 3rd book with essays by philosphers who discuss Dylan and his lyrics, then these other two, one on the 60s as a whole and the other looking at his music from a more political standpoint. *sigh* Oh well.

Do you have anything else you'd recommend, Clay? Since you seem so knowledgable! I'm looking at his albums through Blonde on Blonde, Don't Look Back, No Direction Home...and as far as written biographies, etc: The first volume of Chronicles, Positively 4th St., Studio A, Scaduto's biography, and I've got a couple others kicking around. Anything that's not to be missed?

I tend to focus more on the 70's overall. (Blood on the Tracks, Desire, the Rolling Thunder Review)
You should at least check out
Paul Williams' Bob Dylan: Performing Artist Volume One 1960-1973 I believe is the title. I'm not sure how well it fits your needs, but it is an informative and fascinating read on the impact of Dylan "on stage"
I guess you want Scaduto because it focuses on the 60's?
Clinton Heylin's Behind the Shades is better overall.
While Bob Spitz Dylan: a biography can give you everything from a negative perspective. (Spitz really seems to hate Dylan and digs up the most dirt.)

I can go on. PATRONUS=Perverted And Twisted Representative of Normal U2 Supporters!

Cool, thanks for your input, SP! I'm focusing more on the 60s, because I'm taking a course at the moment on the lit/philosophy of the 60s. I'm hoping that'll be of some help in writing this paper. We shall see!

Elphie, I'll definitely have to give Broken Flowers another viewing, knowing the end. Oops, I hope nobody else on here had yet to see it. I hope I didn't ruin anything...Anyway, I wonder if there was a director's commentary on the DVD. It'd be intersting to see what he had to say. I'm sure he wouldn't give a straight answer on it, but I'm sure there would be something there of interst.
