Bumping this up again, because I'm procrastinating (shock!).

Tiff, when do you have to decide about law school? I saw on the bitches thread that it'd cost you an arm and a leg to go with the shoddy financial aid. Are you still waiting on any other schools or was this the last hurrah? Keep us posted. Nothing like really putting you to the test. While it's nice to have the option there for you, the fact that it'll cost such a fortune certainly makes the decision a difficult one, I'd imagine.

Not much new with me. TONS of writing to do. I can usually churn out papers pretty quickly once I get going, but not so much this semester.

I saw The History Boys yesterday afternoon. If they still have rush when you get home, Claire, I definitely recommend it. I was in the front row on the side, which was kind of obstructed but ended up being worth it in the end. The last scene had all the boys seated down stage right (my side) and the main lad (who was the object of everyone's fancy was seated right in front of me. It was another Crudup in his underwear moment, where I had to keep telling myself "don't stare!" And I did a pretty good job, though he was kind of looking around too, and we ended up meeting eyes a couple time (cue girly squeal...so inappropriate, since it was a serious moment, and yet the first row is a strange place to be. Front row at Chita's Dancer's Life was fascinating, yet freaky at the same time).

Anyway, the show ended with him looking down, hence at moi. Fun! I'm sure he looks at everyone in that seat while he's sitting there, looking around, but what luck to have scored that seat! I even got a little smile at curtain call, since he ended up on my side then too. Swoony-girl moment!

This is turning into my little diary of show reviews lately...I know you guys are busy. You're just doing a much better job of prioritizing than I am.

I like reading all your reviews (or fangirl swoonings), Nic. They allow me to live vicariously through you. Interview's tomorrow! EEK!

I'm currently eating a "Milk-Chocolate-Flavored" Easter Bunny that I bought after Easter for 50% off at CVS. What is milk-chocolate-flavored?! It definitely doesn't taste like real chocolate, either. And there aren't any ingredients written on the package. It's pretty shady. But it was only 49 cents (and its big), so I guess I got what I paid for.

Do you see why I don't post more often?? I really have nothing interesting to say!

Ooh, I thought of something! I saw my university's production of Amadeus yesterday, and it was fantastic. I'm usually a bit of a theatre snob and look down on everything that's not bway/off-bway, but I loved this. They brought in pros to do the costumes and makeup and some of the acting roles. It was a really great production; the best one I've seen at my school.

I'm listening to the new Goo Goo Dolls cd and it's not all that bad (if anyone wants a copy, lemme know). I'm not too upset about seeing them this summer. I'm not a big fan or anything, and I can name at least 20 bands that are much better than them, but I can name a bunch that are worse as well. Embarrassing story about GGD. When I was younger and everyone used Napster (including me), I would download music and burn cds with whatever random music I was listening to at the time. I burned 20+ cds, and every single one had the Goo Goo Dolls' song "Name" on it. I was obsessed with that song. I listened to it all the time and put it on every single one of my cds. So if I get to hear them perform that song live, I'll be happy. Y'all may point and laugh now.

Yeah, I'd definitely recommend History Boys. Good show and cute British boys...who could ask for anything more?!? I'm now totally smitten with Dominic Cooper though (which is a shame, since he hasn't really been in any films or anything, so I can't go on a movie-fest like I usually do...he's been in a couple, but after looking on IMDB, I don't think it's worth renting movies where he plays "Constible #1," "Young Priest," and "Boyfriend." Just going out on a limb there!

I bought some reduced price post-Easter candy myself. I bought a bag of Reese's mini cups, which went much faster than they should have, and some Mounds eggs. They've still got some Reese's eggs that are 75% off. Maybe I'll get a couple of those. Sorry your milk-chocolate-"flavored" egg was on the odd side (but hey, it's still candy, and at a hefty discount!) I tend to be suspicious of anything that has that extra -___ in the title. Yoohoo, a "chocolate-milk-drink." What the hell does that mean?!?! Screams faux-milk-chemical-mix to me!

Oh, and glad you enjoyed your school's production of Amadeus. Our productions are usually pretty ratty (and I've pretty much stopped going) but they're doing Long Day's Journey into Night which just seems like a trainwreck waiting to happen (though, I know at least two of the people in it should be really good...I just don't see 20 year-olds playing 70-something with conviction).

And I honestly don't own a single GGD CD, so I'm not that familiar with their music at all, other than songs that got big radio play...thoug they kind of turned me off when they covered "Give a Little Bit." Come on! Don't mess with Supertramp!

Where are Tiff and Pat?! Have they abandoned us?

I got an internship! It's not exactly what I was looking for and it's unpaid, but it's something different and it's in NYC. It's with MTV. I just wanted to try something new this summer rather than be a counselor again. Hopefully it'll have some interesting aspects to it! I'm such an idiot, though; I can't believe they gave me the job. I was talking to the guy on the phone (it was more of a conversation than an interview) and he asked "What do you read?" I wasn't sure what he meant, so I said Rolling Stone because earlier I had said I was interested in music journalism. He was asking what authors I like, though. Whoops! It was one of those Miss Congeniality "what is your perfect date?" moments. Anyway, I still think it's going to work out.

CONGRATS!!! MTV will be fun. Hey, pass my name along if you hear any scuttlebutt(one t or two?) about hiring! Hooorraay for Claire!!!

And I totally would have thought they were looking for music-type publications for that question (Rolling Stone, Spin, etc, etc). Totally would have been in the same boat.

Anyway, Tiff and Pat, drop in and say hi sometime. We miss you!! And I expect a report on FF/DCFC, Tiff!

Oh...and I just got back from my writing awards thing w/ Terry Jones. He was a riot. Good times! I got 2nd place in journalism (I'll get a check this summer) then a bunch of the graduating seniors got some other thing for academic excellence (with a B&N gift certificate). Fun, fun!

Anyway, a HUGE CONGRATS again, Claire! If I'm still in the city, we'll have to try to catch some shows this summer. Are you working every day or just a couple days/week??

Thanks! I should be working every day, generally around 10-6. They want me to start asap, which will be May 8th. We'll definitely have to hang out if you're around. And I will try to pass your name along! (I think your spelling of 'scuttlebutt' looks correct. Hooray for Claire!!!)

I'm glad the awards thing was fun! Congrats on that; it sounds like a really great accomplishment!

The second t at the end just looked like too many t's! Four in scuttlebutt?!?!

I'd actually forgot about MTV and Co (it's like MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, SpikeTV, Nick, and some others) in my job "searching" (I've been continually checking HBO and Co, NBC, ABC, entertainmentcareers.net, etc...totally forgot about MTV though...should pop back on their site).

I don't think the awards thing was just a big deal. I turned in three features that I wrote that still had notes on them (which I was too lazy to fix) that I'd submitted to the paper, but were never run. Go figure! But Terry Jones was fun, and they had cupcakes, so it was totally worth it!

Ugh, I can't believe I wasted an entire day. It takes skill to do that! I guess after American Idol I'll try to churn out 2 or 3 pages of this damn paper, then I'll do the rest tomorrow between/after class. Hooray for Claire!!! The fact that the prof said we'd have an opportunity to re-write it (how, since it's so near the end of the semester, I do not know) during last week's class totally sucked any motivation I may have had right out of me!

Oh, I forgot to ask, do you know what you'll be doing/what department you'll be working in at MTV??

The internship is in the Integrated Marketing department. It has to do with product placement. That was where they needed me, so I took it.

I've wasted the whole day, too! I have no classes on Tuesdays, and I still manage to get nothing done. It's awful.

I can understand why having the option to rewrite a paper completely removes all your motivation. Good luck on it, though!

I must say, by the end of yesterday, I was rather dismayed by the fact that I truly wasted the entire day yesterday (since the only thing I got accomplished was typing two pages of my Woolf paper, and I did that after midnight!)

Product placement could be fun. It's kind of interesting to see when products are offered to a show/when and how the have to negotiate for how a product will appear, etc. I'm sure it'll look decent on a resume if you ever decide to shoot off in some music/tv/film realm.

Anyway, back to good ol' Virginia and To the Lighthouse. Zzzzzz...(and the damn Red Sox game is on ESPN tonight! Grrr!)

I thought you were going to FF/DCFC tonight?? Hmmm...well, have fun tomorrow!

I just got back from work (huzzah for getting out an hour early). I've got a couple minutes to kick back before going to that damn VW class. I say it every week, but tonight's really going to be a struggle to stay awake. Should be interesting.

My new swoony-girl crush, Dominic Cooper, got a Drama Desk nomination, so that's fun! I'll have to check out the list in more detail in a minute. But, I did see, upon a quick skim over the nominees...WTF is up with Alex Gemininawhatever getting nominated for Sweeney over Toby?? That makes zero sense, and I'm not even a card-carrying member of the Crazy Nation of Mano Followers. *shakes head*

Wow! It really is a surprise that Mano isn't nominated and Alex Whoosiwhatsi is. And I think it's kinda sad that J. Robert Spencer didn't get a nom but the other three Jersey Boys did. I really liked him! But I'm happy that See What I Wanna See got so many nods. Overall there seem like a bunch of surprises (The Color Purple, The Threepenny Opera, and Rabbit Hole all got shafted).

Sorry about that long VW class, Nic. It's almost over though, right? I had my last English seminar class today (my 3-hour one). I had to give a 20-minute presentation and it's so nice to have it over with. Tomorrow's my last day of classes! Hooray!

ETA: Nic, I feel like this has become our private conversation thread, so I'm going to use it as such! CC/GGD tix go on sale Saturday, May 6th. No prices have been announced yet but should be soon. I'd prefer to go to the Friday, August 4th show (but I could go to the Thursday show as well). So find out if you can go by next Saturday! I have another friend who's interested in going, but she's still not sure whether she can. So she might come with us. And if you're not sure yet, I'd suggest getting a ticket anyway because I'm sure it can be sold! Updated On: 4/27/06 at 06:45 PM

Congrats on the internship, Claire! How exciting! Sure it's not your original choice, but lots of people would KILL for an internship at MTV, and it's a great opportunity! (And thank God that oaf Carson Daly isn't there anymore.) When do you start?

Nic, don't make ME be the one to tell YOU to stop procrastinating! How's the progress on your courses and the Dylan assignment? I gotta tell you, I'm not a huge Virginia Wolf fan to begin with, so you've got my sympathies.

I ended up turning down Windsor/Detroit. I just couldn't swing $25k for tuition plus another $15k in living expensives (rent, student fees, laptop, books, leasing a car, the Nexus pass to cross the border, etc.). I'm really bummed - still relieved I was accepted somewhere, but now this fall is back to being an uncertainty!

And DC/FF is tomorrow (Friday). I kept thinking it was tonight until I re-checked my planner and realized it was actually on the 27th, not the 26th. I just picked up DC's "Plans" and am listening to it non-stop. It's pretty good - seems sort of like emo Coldplay mixed with Arcade Fire, if that makes any sense.

Glad to hear the concert is indeed tonight. For some reason, thought you'd said Thursday weeks ago, and I would have hated for you to have pulled a moi (a la last summer with Crosby, Stills, and Nash...yeah, it's tomorrow...oh wait, it's today...in 45 minutes!!!)

Too bad Detroit didn't work out...I suppose to pay those crazy prices, it just doesn't seem worth it to hop the border for Detroit.

Anyway, gotta run and take a shower and scamper off to work. I'm leaving early today so I can get some more work done around here. Though, I think I may try to sqeeze a little nap in when I get back.

I've given up on Dylan until Wednesday, when I've finished all my regular course work for the semester. Then I'll have almost 3 weeks where I can just work on that. The fact that I've been able to churn out a couple of not-so-terrible (imho) 10 page papers with about 2 days work on each of them this week gives me hope that I can come up with 25-30 pages in 3 weeks. It just has to be a reasonable piece of work that can get my advisor (a prof I've had like 4-5 times over the past 4 years) to say "this is 'thesis-worthy'" (whatever that is). Unless I butcher it, I highly doubt that they'll up and screw me by nixing it at the last gunfire, so I wouldn't be able to graduate with Honors. While I'm still anxious about it, I've gotten past freaking out about it.

Just got back from Death Cab and Franz! Overall, I'd give the show a B. There were some great moments and some dull moments. I didn't realize this was the last stop on the tour! The opener was The Cribs, and I missed them. Meh. (Never heard of them anyway.) Death Cab came on, and I'm a bit mixed. I bought "Plans" yesterday and listened to some of their "Transatlanticism album", and I like their stuff - I just don't think it translates very well in a fairly large venue like Pacific Coliseum (13k+ people). Last time, they played at the Commodore Ballroom, which is much more intimate and more appropriate. The acoustics were great for them, but I didn't think they had the presence to make much of an impact with the audience.

On the flip side, Franz Ferdinand had a load of charisma but the acoustics SUCKED! I know most of the words from both of their albums and I was completely lost in parts! The auditorium had a bad echo, which is why DC's quieter, more mellow stuff sounded better. But rocking anthems like...pretty much 90% of FF's songs...just didn't sound good. "Take Me Out" and "Do You Want To" still totally brought down the house though - jumping up and down and singing along to your heart's desire. I think they were mistaken in getting both of those songs over with in the first half of their set - they're the most well known, so there was a noticeable energy drop from the audience in the second half. The banter was pretty boring..."We love Vancouver!!!" etc. yawn. (I miss the "kung-fu master" stuff!) We were stuck in front of two screaming drunk women who fell over, swayed, shrieked, and by the time they staggered out (2/3 of the way into FF), my bag and jacket that were sitting on my chair were soaked with spit, and when I put my hand on them, my hand smelled like saliva and alcohol. Gross.

All in all, a fun time was had. Franz would've been an amazing opener for U2. Death Cab should stick with smaller venues. The Strokes are here next month - contemplating getting tickets!

ETA: Bought a FF tee. Pretty boring - the YCHISMB cover on the front and the tour dates on the back on basic black. The Death Cab ones were nicer and had more variety. But I saw the show for Franz, not for DC so...

Sorry the acoustics sucked for FF. I'm honestly not at all familiar with Death Cab (not that I have anything against them, I'm just so hit and miss with groups, and they're one that I've missed on my radar. I'll get savvy one of these days).

Anyway, it does seem that they might be a band better suited to a smaller venue (same goes for FF. I don't think they've necessarily graduated to the rhelm of 5-digit arenas quite yet.

Though, with that being said, I'm glad you enjoyed them (minus crappy sound). I found them to be great fun, with infectious energy (and that was with a bizzarely dead crowd...you'd think for a secret show the "real" fans would've been coming out of the woodworks, and it was free, so that should have made everyone happy!) Did they play Lindsay Wells? Actually, I think it's always put down as L.Wells on the setlists that I've seen online. It was kind of a lighter, acoustic song. I really liked it at the show I went to.

Guess that's about it. I've got a bunch of stuff to do this weekend. I'm very jealous that Claire is done with her semester! Have a safe trip home (are you leaving this weekend??)

Oh, Nic, don't be jealous yet! My semester isn't really over, just my classes. I have 4 finals to worry about! I'm driving home next Saturday (my last exam is 7-10pm on Friday).

Tiff, I'm sorry the concert wasn't as good as it could have been because of the sound. And I agree that DCFC would be best in a small, intimate venue. Nic (or Tiff), I think I have all of their albums, so if you want to start listening, let me know and I'll pass some music along.

Nic, I'm not really familiar with DC's music either. Claire mentioned a couple of their songs she liked and I picked up their newest album so I'd be familiar with the bulk of their setlist, but aside from that (and the singles from Transatlanticism), I don't know much about them. I don't know how to describe their style. They're a Seattle band, but not with the typical grunge rock punk sound. It's sort of rockish-emo-Coldplay if you can reconcile that at all! Claire, I'd love to get to know more of their music! If you could compile a list of their singles from each album (aside from "Plans"), you could either burn it for me or send the file to me online some time!

Yeah, I agree, Nic - I don't think Franz is ready for the 5-digit arenas either. (And no, they didn't play Lindsay Wells. Their set was actually quite short - DC was 1.5 hours, FF was an hour! Surely they could've sung all 23 songs they've ever released??) I could see them doing really well in an smaller underground rock venue, which the Commodore pretty much is. (Not really underground, but it's got that edgy non-mainstream vibe.)

Hooray for Claire finishing school! Nic, when are you done???

Just peeked at a couple of FF's setlists and it looks like they only play about 14-15 songs. Kind of lame, if you ask me, but I suppose that's probably the norm with a double bill. Geez, I think they played about an hour for the damn free concert! I'd definitely like to catch them on their own at a proper show sometime. Pity they didn't play Lindsay Wells. I don't know why, but I really loved that song!

Ahh, didn't realize you were still so booked with finals, Claire!

Tiff, I'm done with the bulk of my stuff by Wednesday. I'll still have a couple little short essay-type things, but the vast majority of my stuff will be done by the 3rd. Then I've got a few weeks to buckle down on good ol' Bob. Hooray for Claire!!! I can't wait until it's done and over with...though I still have to figure out what the hell I'm doing this summer! Eeek!

ETA: Claire, are you yousendit-savvy. I feel really bad mooching all the CDs off you, but if you could send me some of Death Cab's stuff that way, I'd love to climb out from under the rock I've been living under. Hooray for Claire!!!

Nic, if it doesn't end up working, let me know and I can upload it on another file sharing site.

Are y'all familiar with The Postal Service? If you like Death Cab, you'll probably like them because Ben Gibbard is the lead singer of both groups (if you want I can pass their cd along).

I hate studying for finals. I can't make myself focus, and I never know where to start because there's just so much information to go over.

It was announced that Counting Crows are closing all shows on their tour with GGD except in Buffalo (where GGD are from). I am getting the biggest kick out of reading GGD message boards and seeing their fans get incredibly pissed off. It's absolutely hilarious how mad some people are. Hooray for Claire!!!

Saw The History Boys again this afternoon. Totally didn't have the time to, but the offer was there, so I went. I think I've found a new favorite show. I liked it the first time, but I've since listened to the BBC radio broadcast, and now after seeing it again, I'm hooked. I definitely see a SRO visit or two (assuming they really are nixing rush) over the summer.

What a cast!! I was really impressed this afternoon. Even more so than the first time around...I think since I was really able to see the whole show. The boys' business during the classroom scenes was fascinating. I don't know how they didn't get a Drama Desk for best ensemble. There were so many little bits that were just so real. Little looks across the room, leaning over to one another and making off-hand comments, etc. Just silly little things that really gave the space a real feel. It was great.

The whole cast is just remarkable, especially the boys. With the exception of maybe two of them that don't necessarily have a whole lot to do, all make incredibly strong impressions. Can't wait to see it again (though after two times up close, I'm going to be very sad having to be relegated to the back)! If ever there was a show where catching facial expressions and little ticks enhanced the show, I'd say this is it.

Only drawback of the afternoon: not having my A 1 seat from last time. I could see Dominic Cooper glancing down at whoever was in that seat throughout the last bit of the show. Hooray for Claire!!! It's the seat to have in the last 15 minutes!!

But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

What's History Boys? Everyone's talking about it.

"It's not always about you!!!" (But if you think I'm referring to you anyway, then I probably am.)
