Edge? Yoga? Balcony? *licks lips* Umm...what's he wearing?
Nothing. He's wearing absolutely nothing.
No, he's wearing black track pants and a black t-shirt.
Remember to watch Monday Night Football tonight! U2/Green Day should be going on around 8:20EST.
We made it to 900 posts!
Whoo! We're still plugging away, slowly but surely!
I saw Edge and Billy Joe on GMA this morning. GOOD LORD, BJ looked horrific. Seriously, he looked like death warmed over...If I weren't so damn tired (read: lazy) I'd dig up my "U2 tape" from my school stuff and tape their performance...Don't think that's going to happen though. Just too damn tired (lazy).
ETA:
I thought that was a bit of a mess, guys. Actually, I thought The Saints are Coming came off the best. September seemed kind of long and Beautiful Day seemed like an after thought. Oh well. Good to see the lads again! Bono looking very Pop-like. Larry FINALLY got his hair cut, so that's a big YAY for me.
Your thoughts??
I taped it! I wish they'd played more of Beautiful Day. The Saints are Coming wasn't bad.
I just updated my previous post...pretty much on the same page as you, Elph.
They're not playing during halftime, are they?
I like Bono's hair short. All the boys looked good, in fact!
I think that's it for them, but I'm not 100% sure. I also agree that they're looking pretty damn good (I don't think the same can be said for poor Billie Joe, though he looked about 50 times better than he did being interviewed this morning!). Bono looks like he may have put on a couple pounds, but that wouldn't be terribly surprising, since he's not running around like a maniac on a daily basis like when they're on tour.
I'm watching the football game and they said that U2 and Green Day ARE performing during halftime.
ETA: never mind, apparently they just re-aired part of the opening performance. I'm glad I switched to Studio 60 and didn't keep watching the football to see if they'd perform again.

I am SUCH A JACKASS!!! So, I went into the city last night to look at an apartment in Williamsburg (kind of run-down, but in a totally charming way, if that's at all possible). And when I drove myself back from the train station, I forgot to turn the lights off! Ugh! I was driving my friend's car, and both of my parents cars (the only others I drive, ever) the lights automatically come on and shut off when you start the car. I totally spaced shutting them off last night...and to think, I was so proud of myself for remembering to move the seat back to the position that my friend likes. I always think of the important things!
Anyway, we've been kicking around for an hour and a half and it looks like AAA just showed up. SH*T! I forgot to make lunch. Better run and do that now!
Ugh! The boys were at the Union Square Barnes and Noble this morning signing U2 by U2!!!
File that under: Things I'd Rather Just Not Know About!
Aw, sorry, I would have let you know they were at Union Square ahead of time but I assumed you already knew. Last weekend I read that they were doing that and almost considered coming home for it before common sense kicked in. But they started giving away tickets to get in at 8am, and I'm sure it was absolutely crazy. It sounded like only a limited number of people would get the chance to get the book signed, and you know how intense U2 fans are, so you probably would have had to get there insanely early (or the night before) to get in.
I'm so sorry about your car troubles, too! That sucks! At least now you probably won't ever make that mistake again, right??
I've been really bad about following news about the band lately, so I hadn't heard about the book signing. I figured with the book coming out, they'd be kicking around at some point, but I hadn't heard any specifics. It just irks me becaue, like I said, I was in the city last night looking at an apartment (sounds like I'm still in the running, for the kind of "run-down, but in a charming sort-of way" apartment). I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't have been tempted to stay at a friend's house (or at Grand Central) for the night and get there bright and early. Oh well!
And I certainly hope I don't make that mistake again (gotta love AAA!). Though, I think I'm better off with my parents' cars where the lights just go off automatically. The less I have to worry about in the world of driving, the better!
Bump.
HOLY SH*T! I was feeling kind of bummed about not knowing about the B&N signing until this morning all afternoon. Well, I was just looking through some pictures on inteference, and I saw a note from someone who got there before 4 in the afternoon, not yesterday, but MONDAY!!!! Jesus! Yeah, I love the boys, and I'd love to have a signed copy of that book, but not 2 days in line worth! Yikes!!
That's all.
That's INSANE. Seriously. That's not just dedication to the band, that's insanity.
Oops! Forgot to close the bold on that other post.
Yeah, I think that all goes a little overboard! I'll just give catching them outside the arena next time they tour a go (and hope if they spend a week in New York again, it doesn't rain the whole time!).
Wait, wasn't the signing on Tuesday? If it was (which I think is true), I guess getting there on Monday afternoon isn't that crazy.
Was it? I thought it was yesterday. When I heard about it from someone at work yesterday, I popped onto interference and I thought the blurb with pictures was dated the 27th and said "this morning." And I'm pretty sure I was on interference at some point on Tuesday and didn't see the article at the top. Dunno though.
I'll have to go back and check it out.
No, it was definitely Tuesday.
Well, that's really just as well. Now I know people aren't totally crazy. PLUS, I don't have to keep kicking myself about how I would/could/should've stayed in the city Tuesday night. It still kind of sucks that I didn't realize it ahead of time, but in all reality, it's probably just as well. I really couldn't have gone down anyway (though it kills me that I'm so close!).
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NICOLE!
I hope you have a great time in the city tomorrow. And have some fun tonight!
Something I thought was funny: Emma Watson might not come back for the 6th Harry Potter movie, so Moviefone lists JoJo as a possible replacement. One of their very wise reasons: "And besides, with a name like JoJo, she's destined for massive fame." Well, you can't argue with that. (Nic, I'm very sorry for constantly making fun of her, and I mean it in the nicest way possible; I'm sure she's a very sweet girl).
For GG, the matinee on the 17th is great.
I'm just using this as our personal conversation thread, because that's what it's become.
Claire, as always, we're on the same page!
Seriously, don't feel bad about making fun of the cuz. After seeing that trampy picture of from Thanksgiving last year...I jsut don't know about her. She really was a sweet kid when she was younger, but I don't think she's got the best parental influence (it doesn't seem like they do a terribly good job of keeping her grounded, which would seem so vital for a teenager getting so much attention/quick celebrity).
Aaaanyway, I'll look for GG balcony seats for the Saturday matinee either tomorrow or Sunday, depending on whether or not I can find a window of time to sneak up there tomorrow.
I could call a couple friends in the city to hang out with tomorrow, but I've decided if I don't get a call from them today, I'm protesting my ratty friends and having a solo city day, which it shaping up to look like a lot of fun, actually:
I think I'm going to take an early train in, and swing by the Housing Works $1 book/CD/DVD sale. After that I'm going to movie hop to see Science of Sleep and The US vs. John Lennon (this won't give me a lot of time at the book sale, but I REALLY don't need any more books and stuff, so that's probably just as well!). Then, it's off to get pix with my boys, and maybe I'll do the lotto circuit and if I get lucky I'll go to an evening show. Should be fun!!!
Sounds like a great day! I could spend hours at that Housing Works sale, but, like you said, it would probably be a bad idea. Wandering around bookstores is so much fun.
You'll have to tell me how The Science of Sleep is. There are a bunch of movies that I want to see that are out right now but I'm afraid I'll never get around to doing so (although I couldn't see that one if I tried because it's not playing here).
For my birthday this year my parents gave me U2 by U2, which just arrived today; it's amazing. I'm trying to read it cover to cover, which seems like it'll take awhile (I did that with the U2 Show book, which was also fabulous). I don't want to do homework anymore, I just want to read this. I mean, wouldn't you prefer U2's clever, interesting writing to James Fennimore Cooper?? There are also some great pictures in it.
It really is a good thing I'm limiting myself to an hour or so at the Housing Works sale. I seriously need to be cut off from buying books, but when they're cheap, I just can't refuse! I bought about 20 at the Flea Market last week. Then there were another 20 or so of those Barnes and Noble Classics when they were having their 1/2 off sale (the classics in my little library needed some serious beefing up, and there's no better way to do it than with $2-5 books!). Plus, whatever other odds and ends I've picked up over the summer.
I go through these phases where I just go crazy buying obscene amounts of cheap used CDs/DVDs/books. Last year was a big CD year, and this summer has been crazy with the books. Wherever I end up moving, I'm going to need lots of space for bookshelves! Claire, if/when we get a place, we're going to have quite the little library between the two of us!
I still need to pick up U2 by U2. I don't think I was vocal enough about it coming out this week (and my mom's not huge on pre-ordering stuff on Amazon). But she did get me the special edition of ZooTV Sydney, so she definitely gets props for being on top of that! ...I picked up a copy of U2 Show for myself too, a week or so before I got yours, but I haven't really had a chance to look through it, or read any of it. But, in just skimming through it, the photo coverage looks great!
I'll be sure to let you know how Science of Sleep is. It's gotten some pretty mixed reviews, but I loved Eternals Sunshine and I LOVE Gael Garcia Bernal. Plus, I've still got one $1 movie pass, so it's all good.
I was doing so well, staying up to date with movies earlier this summer, but I've been really lagging lately. I saw The Illusionist a couple weeks ago (it was good, but I was a little disappointed after reading the surprisingly great reviews for it). I still want to see Hollywoodland, and I was curious about The Black Dhalia, but it got pretty ratty reviews.
Anyway, I guess that's about it for now. Gotta wrangle up something for dinner. Leftovers, I'm sure. Oooh, we have a package of frozen dinner rolls, so whatever I have, it's definitely going to involve a roll or two. What a birthday dinner...leftovers and a frozen dinner roll. And since it's year-end budget crunch time at work, I'm flying solo tonight (not that I'm complaining, I'd rather be alone here than in the office until midnight with everyone else!), so it'll mean a drink or two alone...which is mildly pathetic. Oh well.
Nic, I want to hear all about your past 2 days in the city!
I did get to see The Science of Sleep yesterday. I hadn't even bothered to check if it was playing anywhere (I just assumed it wasn't), but my friend discovered it was playing at a local artsy theater and asked me to go. I thought it was great; I agree with you that it's not quite as good as Eternal Sunshine, but I was still very impressed.
