Thanks for the link! I'll have to check it out tonight.

ONE MORE DAY, Elph!!! Ya gonna make it?!?!?

More than one more day, actually. My last final exam, and probably my hardest (it's American Lit), is on Monday. Reviews a-plenty! But that's all I have left now. I turned in one take-home exam this morning and it felt so good to get rid of it!

Well, I guess in the long run, it's probably better to have to push it to next week, to get the weekend to prepare for that last exam. It's always kind of a Catch-22 with the toughies. While it's nice to have extra time to do some extra studying, part of me always wanted to get it over and done with!

I'M FINISHED WITH FINALS!
I just took my last final exam, in American Lit. It wasn't too bad. I probably could have spent more time on my essays (I finished a little early) but I just wanted to get out of there. So now I get to head home tomorrow! Hooray! First comes packing, though, which is always a challenge for me.

How's everyone else doing?

Hooray!!! That must be a relief, Elph!...Though, packing's never fun.

Not much new with me...think I've got an apartment...again. I'M COMING HOME! We'll see how this goes. Third time's a charm, after all!

Have a safe trip home tomorrow.

I'm sure it's not moldy...just kind of with that white filmy crap on it. I definitely don't expect you to bring it though...watch, you'd get stopped by customs or something! What's this white powdery substance...er, old chocolatey bits??

Aw, sorry, CQ. You probably did better than you think, though. And at least it's over, right??

Yep, Tiff, I'm still planning on seeing you gals on Friday night! That is, if you're not stuck in Sing Sing.

I went to see The Pursuit of Happyness tonight. The first hour and forty five minutes of it was fabulous. Of course then the projector broke (during a moving, important scene) and we couldn't see the rest. I'm so mad. I got a free voucher to go back, but I wanted to see how it ends tonight!

Well, that sucks about the projector! That's happened to me before...and other little odd things. When I saw Stranger than Fiction, for about 20 minutes, the screen was stretched wide, so everyone was all short and stubby and you could see the boom mics (which I found very odd...I wouldn't think they'd ever actually be in the shot at all, but I guess they'd just get cropped out on a properly projected screen).

I definitely want to see Pursuit over the holidays. I think I'm going movie hopping on Friday (The Curse of the Golden Flower, Casino Royale again, and maybe The Holiday...though I'm not terribly interested in seeing that).

Sorry to hear about your not-so-great final, CQT. At least it's over and you'll be on your way to New York soon!

See y'all Friday! I think we're probably going to meet you at the theater, Elph. Play it by ear from there, I guess. Random roaming??

Random roaming is the best kind! Sounds good. Just keep me updated on the plan if it changes.

That is funny about Stranger Than Fiction and the boom mics being visible; I wouldn't have expected that, either. That same stretching of the screen happened before The Pursuit of Happyness started, during an ad for St. Jude's, so we got to see alien-like versions of the faces of Jennifer Aniston, Ray Romano, Marlo Thomas, Robin Williams...my two friends and I were cracking up because they looked hilarious, but I'm afraid other people didn't appreciate our laughing, I guess because of the serious nature of the ad. Oh well. I'm sorry, but they looked pretty darn funny. It was all close-ups of faces, and when your face is twice as wide as it is long, that's pretty amusing.
I'm going back to Pursuit of Happyness on Saturday. Based on the first 3/4 of it, I recommend it.

It was great to see you girls yesterday! I wish I could have hung out with you more. Tiff, I hope you're enjoying the rest of your trip. Nic, are you home yet?

Back to U2: Bono is receiving honorary knighthood, so congrats to him!
I subscribe to Guster's emails, mostly because they're usually pretty funny, and the most recent one had the following subject line: "Bono watches 'Guster on Ice' Constantly." I thought it was funny. I'M COMING HOME! Bono was on their minds because there are two crowd shots from Guster's Live in Portland Maine DVD in U2's new video for Window in the Skies. Here's a link to the video if y'all haven't seen it yet:

Lovely seeing you FINALLY Claire!! Far too short of a time though!

And of course, you too, Nic! You MUST get to Vancouver next year! (I suppose since you have a free voucher, then the rising or falling cost of airfare doesn't affect you, right? So we can leave it until the last minute when you find out what your job sitch is?)

So after all the trouble Winnie went to so she could see Donny Osmond in BATB on Friday, we decided we would go on the 24th to the stage door after his final show, and Winnie was so excited...it was going to be the highlight of her trip.

Of course, she didn't check what time the Sunday show was, so we were anticipating to get there around 10:30pm, just to find out at 8pm that the only Christmas Eve show was at 2pm. Ouch.

Whoops. That sucks. Was she upset?

Welcome home! Yeah, it was definitely too short a meeting; you'll have to come back soon!

So what were all the shows you saw? The Drowsy Chaperone, The Apple Tree, The Vertical Hour...how was The Vertical Hour? My mom and I got tickets for Christmas, I'm excited (I'm a huge fan of Bill Nighy and Julianne Moore). What was the highlight of your trip?

She was nearly unconsolable. Doesn't matter that we ate really well, stayed at fabulous hotels (well, at least the Michelangelo was), relaxed, shopped, saw a ton of shows and had mostly great weather...the trip was ruined because she didn't meet freakin' Donny Osmond. Met Bill Nighy and Julianne Moore twice, but not Donny Osmond. *yawn*

Why don't you come up in January/February along with Nic?

I saw Drowsy, Apple Tree, Vertical Hour and Les Mis (and the first act of The Nutcracker, if that counts). A cast member from Les Mis asked for my number at the stage door. I'M COMING HOME! Quite the cutie - I won't post his name on here though. The fan girl chicks at the barricade were shooting me death glares.

Highlights of the trip:

1) Meeting you guys, NATURALLY!
2) The shopping.
3) The shows, The Vertical Hour in particular.

Lowlights of the trip:
1) Tavern On The Green (Lesson learned! I will never eat there again!)
2) Serendipity 3 being closed on Christmas Eve after Winnie and I made the painful trek all the way there around 11:4pm and after the woman on the phone ASSURED us it would be open on Dec 24.
3) Missing Donny Osmond - not because I wanted to meet him, but because it was a pain putting up with Winnie's sulkiness after.

Did you like Drowsy? What about Les Mis? What did you think of Daphne? Thumbs up for your success at the Les Mis stage door! It seems like you had a pretty good trip overall. And of course the highlight had to be meeting me! I'M COMING HOME! I wish I could come to visit you, but unfortunately I'm sure I'll be bogged down with school. Did I tell y'all I'll be stuck teaching British Literature to high school seniors? That'll be interesting.

Bump!

I just got back from seeing Dreamgirls, and I thought it was fabulous. I wasn't really familiar with the musical beforehand (I knew a handful of the songs and that's about it), but I just loved the movie. So go see it if you can and haven't already!

I liked Drowsy! It was original and Bob Martin and Beth Leavel were scene-stealers. It didn't blow me away (especially after all the pre- and post-Tony hype) but it was completely enjoyable.

Les Mis...I loved the show going into it, but considering the cast, this production didn't live up to all my expectations. Alexander G., Aaron Lazar and Norm Lewis were terrific, but I still found the Marius-Cosette-Eponine triangle really forced and inauthentic (not really the actors' fault, I just find that storyline and characters weak and boring). Daphne was...miscast. It seemed to be the big topic of discussion when I was wandering amongst the theatre-goers at intermission, with the majority of the folks agreeing with me. I liked her acting, I just thought her raspy voice was jarring and didn't mesh well with the score.

You didn't tell me about doing British Lit! FUN! (I don't really mean that sarcastically!) So no vacation time, huh? I'M COMING HOME!

So Dreamgirls lived up to the hype for you? I'm still dying to see it - everyone's busy tonight (except for me...I'll be watching the Ugly Betty marathon...) but I'm hoping to see it on New Year's Day. I started reading the Dreamgirls book (those crappy movie-to-book paperbacks that are are poorly written but give you a good idea what to expect) and it sounded like it had potential, but the writing was so bad that I gave up.

I didn't really pay attention to any of the Dreamgirls hype, which probably contributed to why I enjoyed it so much. I wasn't sure what to expect. I didn't read any reviews, I ignored BWW threads, etc. I tried to avoid setting my bar too high. Now I'll start reading all about it, but I wanted to see it without too many expectations because it always seems like I get let down when I pay attention to a movie's hype before I see it (eg. Brokeback Mountain). In Dreamgirls all the acting was fabulous, and Jennifer Hudson definitely stole the show. The theater was packed, and there were a few times when the audience broke out into applause during the movie.
