Before I ask the question you have to understand, that I am the youngest of 7 grandchildren. My grandfather used to take his grandkids at various points in their lives to Ringling Bros Circus at The Garden every spring for many years. And, as a result for me, I have had fond memories of both the shows and the time spent with my grandfather.
Now, one of his granddaughter's ( my cousin) is in town with her two kids. She is asking me to come with her to the show because she wants to take them to see it at MSG just like our grandfather did with us. Furthermore, she needs someone else to help out due to the fact that dealing with her two kids there would be too much for her on her own.
Is it wrong that I am 20 years of age and very much looking forward to seeing the circus? Or is it perfectly okay to just, relive an old memory or do something childish for once just because?
And, for the record I am not looking to make this a PETA thread by any means.
"Come smell the excitement!"

As long as you don't mind supporting a group that mistreats its animals.
Ringling Brothers Beats and Abuses Animals
If me spending fifteen bucks on this thing not only gets me entertainment but pisses off the PETA protesters that will be standing outside MSG then I'm all for it.
Just came back to my post to add one quick thing. Morosco, I am not usually a Letterman fan. However, I do love some of his top ten's, and that one really was quite funny and one of the better ones I've heard/read.

Charming. I don't even like PETA, but what the circus does to those animals is absolutely appalling.
Winston,
If it makes you happy, then go right ahead!
The animals are still going to be shown, even if you don't go. YOU aren't their keepers.
Go and have fun!
Adam,
My number one concern with the whole animal treatment debate is that I feel like there is more then what is being said in the public eye and given the information out there. I see no reason for not going. Hell, after talking to a friend of mine about things we missed doing as a kid going to the circus was high up on that list so much so that had my cousin not asked me to go, I would have gone on my own anyways.
But, I digress. The issue that I have is that PETA is the main organization that puts out various pictures articles and videos about the various ways animals are treated at circuses. Now, The thing is that it is very easy to alter articles or pictures or even videos to make it look good for your side of things. So, I am not so dead set on the notion that PETA or any animal rights group that is anti circus is 100 per cent correct in their findings.
TheatreDiva90016, Thanks, I mean, I was wondering if it would be strange for me to go due to the fact that I am 20. But, I did see Kooza last spring and it reminded me of how much I have a newfound appreciation for the circus arts.
You are there to enjoy the show, correct?
Then have fun!
Who cares how old you are?!
Unless you are a registered child molester...
Then, I can't help you.

Was that "Come smell the excitement" or "Come smell the excrement?"
Was that "Come smell the excitement" or "Come smell the excrement?"
I think that's what the joke was eluding to.
"The thing is that it is very easy to alter articles or pictures or even videos to make it look good for your side of things. "
Articles or pictures? Won't you be seeing it as it happens in person?
I can't even stand to see those poor horses who pull the carriages through Central Park.
and I am not a member of PETA. Not by a long shot.
Any bear that is dancing, elephant that is lifting barbells, or lion that is jumping through rings of fire is being abused. Whether or not you think it, or PETA is reporting it.
Then leave it for PETA to worry about.
If it makes you happy, go and enjoy it!
Do yo know how many shows I worked on where the actors were being abused, but the audience still loved the show.
Life goes on.
That's a ridiculous remark. Actors make a choice to be in a show. These animals did not.
Sometimes it's the only job the get offered, so, same thing.
If I was going to stop doing things I enjoyed because someone, somewhere in the process of bringing it to fruition, then I may as well just sit at home.
Not only absurd, but remarkably self-centered and uncaring.
The poor animals can't speak up for themselves. They simply accept their lot in life. I can't stand it to see them abused for just one second.
Jane2, Unless someone starts to whip an elephant or clearly attack one in front of the crowd at Madison Square Garden then I don't see the logic in your comment about me seeing them being abused in front of me.
Also, I am not a fan of the whole Lorax way of thinking when it comes to animals. People assume way to much in general with animals. Not just when it comes to performing animals in the circus like in the context of this conversation. But, in in general. For all we know the way that they are training the animals might look harmful but in reality not be so bad from the animal's point of view. We just don't know. It's a lot of speculation really.
Circus' have been using animals for over 100 years. Nothing's going to change that.
They have gotten much better in their treatment of the animals.
"Jane2, Unless someone starts to whip an elephant or clearly attack one in front of the crowd at Madison Square Garden then I don't see the logic in your comment about me seeing them being abused in front of me."
No, I didn't think you would, or could see that logic.
"Circus' have been using animals for over 100 years"
Does that make it right? Diva, I really don't see the logic in that.
"Nothing's going to change that."
How can you be so sure? I hope you're wrong.

That's not even worth a response. Good lord. Keep telling yourself that in real life it's probably not so bad for the animals!!
