According to what I've been reading and the IMDB cast list, there is no Jerry in the new GREY GARDENS film starring Drew Barrymore.
Although, in an interview, Jessica Lange did comment that she will be making corn.
Corn and no Jerry?
What's happening to the world?
Also, if you could decide, who would be your ideal Jerry?
I'd love to see Jake Gyllenhaal in the role.
I think they are only doing the early years of the BEALS (correct me if I am wrong) meaning 1943 only? no 1976 not sure about exact dates, but you know what I mean 40's and 70's.

btw- I saw the GG part 3 documentary at P-Town Festival.. I will post photos it later.

I didn't know there was a third documentary. What is it called?
"I think they are only doing the early years of the BEALS (correct me if I am wrong) meaning 1943 only? no 1976 not sure about exact dates, but you know what I mean 40's and 70's."
If this is true, I just lost interest in seeing it.
I think the Part 3 was going to be everything post-documentary, including the musical.
********SPOILERS*********
Grey Gardens Part 3 documentary by Albert Mayles was all about the MUSICAL on Broadway! I saw it and met Dough Wright. There was an 1 hour 30 minutes talk back and Ive learned a lot from the documentary!
I actually LOVE it, specially I learned that GREY GARDENS the musical was conceived and written in Provincetown, MA. Doug Wright, Scott Frankel and Michael Korie rented a house in the winter to WRITE the whole score before they went to Sundance in Florida!
I cant wait to share you my experiences and what Ive learned from them. Let me finish my work first! lol!
1st song that was written was TWO PEAS in A POD ( a tribute to Big Edy's song TEA FOR TWO in the documentary) Korie wrote the lyrics first!
Oh! let me finish my work and I have tons of TRIVIA to share about GG the musical.

I will transfer it later here>.. oh let me finish my work! lol!
I always think of me~getting OLD and singing "ANOTHER WINTER in a SUMMER TOWN" and reminiscing my summers in P-Town. NOW~that IVE learned that SONG
was written in Provincetown (in a cold winter morning, on spot of the beach.. i have a photo of that spot! will DEFINITELY have a DEEPER meaning to me now!
Another winter
In a summer town
The beach is empty
They covered the pools
The patio umbrellas come down
Oh God, my God
Another winter
In a summer town
One little leaf adrift in the breeze
Refuses to fall from the sky
Blown by the wind
It clings to the tree
Unwilling to wither and die
The summers over
But I'm still a girl!

The film with Drew covers their whole lives up to and beyond the documentary time frame. There's even a scene of Little Edie's famous nightclub act that takes place well after the documentary. But the primary focus of the film is the missing thirty year period that happens between acts of the musical, post running away, pre documentary.
J*, you know what I always pictured with that song?
When I moved to South Jersey a few years ago, it was November, and I was looking for a winter rental to make sure the job worked out and to give me to know the area better before I entered a long-term lease.
One of the places I looked was the Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, N.J. They had an offer for a lovely suite at a great price -- and it came with daily maid service, to boot -- and I was about ready to accept. Then, my dad said, "This reminds me a little too much of 'The Shining.'" I looked around at the empty lobby, the empty streets and boardwalk outside, the closed down stores all around me and realized he was right. There was no way I could live there for six months.
eta: plus, it had a ghost!

Thanks, Art, that sounds better.
Do we know yet if this is going to be an HBO/TV movie or a movie for the theatres?
There is no official word yet on how it will be released. Though the unofficial presumptive word is that it will be released commercially this Fall. Albert Maysles himself believes so. Though, even with his status as executive producer, he has no say so into how the film is released.
The film is currently in post production and I'm not sure the final decision has actually been made yet. I believe they are waiting to see the final product first.
"I cant wait to share you my experiences and what Ive learned from them."
Well, J*, I sure hope you put a nice SPOILER ALERT before you give everything away.
Jay, honey, I agree with Besty. You really need to add "SPOILER ALERT." I stopped myself before I read your entire post because I really want to experience the film itself and be surprised. Please add it! (Thank you!!!)
Oops..sorry about that...; I got excited and forgot to add it! I just did !

Jerry just seems like such a crucial character in these women's lives. He's also a wonderful counterpart to George Gould Strong.
So much of the drama in the documentary comes from Big Edie dangling Jerry in front of Little Edie.
Also, some of the most entertaining scenes are between Little Edie and Jerry. If the film recreates the documentary at all, I don't see how Jerry can be left out.
For what it's worth there's a post on the IMDB message board from someone saying there is definitely NO Jerry. Once again, for what it's worth.
I can't imagine no Jerry.
At last night's benefit dinner at Bottino for the Ghetto Film School, Rachael Horovitz, producer of HBO's upcoming film of Grey Gardens (starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore), explained why she and first-time director Michael Sucsy filmed the quintessential Hamptons story in Toronto. "Funnily enough," she quipped, "you can re-create sand dunes, but you can't re-create tax breaks." So how do you re-create sand dunes in Toronto, anyway? "We got extremely lucky," Horovitz confessed. "On our first day of shooting, which was October 22, they were having a heat wave — a one-day heat wave, no joke — in Toronto. And we did the beach exteriors on that one day." The crew built a Hamptons-esque façade in the countryside outside Toronto, and the city itself was used for flashback scenes set in thirties and fifties New York. The production got lots of mileage out of its lead actresses: "Drew played Little Edie from age 16 to age 65," and "Jessica sings her own songs."
Still, no mention of Jerry.....
From what I know, there is no Jerry character in the film. The film does not focus on the documentary, but on what led up to it. So to introduce, explain and set up a new character at that point in the film, just to illustrate a dynamic between the two women would be more of an unnecessary distraction than it would be a positive for the film's flow. There are much simpler ways to illustrate the various dynamics.
The real Jerry is still alive, BTW. He's an artist/cab driver in NYC, and a truly generous and wonderful person.
So, is this film airing on HBO or in theaters? Excuse my ignorance.
See my other post closer to the top of the page.
Speaking of the real Jerry... Ive learned this from the TALK BACK (not in the documentary~so I guess, its SAFE not to put spoilers.
According to Doug Wright- he is gay and he used to be a go-go boy in a gay night club in NYC. I was suprised to learn this, bec. was there a part of documentary about Jerry having a new girl every night...like in the song.. what? sex with you??? an older person like you???
This is definitely a new light to my understanding of Grey Gardens.. I guess, the Beales (specifically) Big Edie was always surrounded by gay guys... I asked that again to Doug Wright (privately) after the talk back? I told him.. I thought Gould was gay (the accompanist) not Jerry.. then he told me.. yeah.. he is gay too, he used to be a go-go- boy! I guess the Beales did not know this that he came out later....Can anyone confirm this or heard anything like this?

So Jerry really didn't want any sex with Edie?
It's true, Jay. Not that I was there, but Jerry has talked about it.
