This actually looks really cool/creepy. I can't wait to see it.
Fool me once (Planet of the Apes) Shame on you
Fool me twice (Big Fish) Shame on me.
Fool me Thrice (Sweeny Todd, Thank you GG!).... I must be an idiot
Fool me four times (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).../ wait I AM an idiot!
He will not be getting my movie going dollars!
Visually, he's a genius. Otherwise, let's have him stick to the set/costume departments and have him work under a different director who will let Burton have complete control over the visual world.
Dear Tim Burton,
There are other actors alive besides Johnny Depp and your wife, many of whom do not have as much money as said individuals. Employ them.
Much love,

I would love to see Burton tackle an original idea like Bettelejuice or Edward Scissorhands again. Remakes are really pissing me off these days.
Alan Rickman's in it, and that's enough for me.
I don't understand why people think Burton should cast others. Helena and Johnny have been right for all of the roles that he's cast them in. Furthermore, I think of theme as a sort of troupe, and whatever they are doing is working.

I'm with you, Judas. If they fit the role, it's one hell of a lot easier to work with an actor you know. I like the look of this so far.
And to whoever posted that snippet of the Alice movie (borstal, I think?) thanks. Haven't seen that in years.
I don't if they have been perfectly for all of their roles. I could think of a bunch of other actors I would've rather seen as Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett.
Fool me twice (Big Fish) Shame on me.
Bite your tongue!! Big Fish is an amazing movie.
I'm listening to Ewan McGregor sing 'My Time of Day' right now. He he!
I would love to see Burton tackle an original idea like Bettelejuice or Edward Scissorhands again.
I agree, I love both of those movies. But sadly these days those kinds of movies aren't given much consideration.
I agree about Big Fish. What a great movie.
I too am a fan of BIG FISH, and I think that while there are a few other actresses I wanted to see as Mrs.Lovett, Helena Bonham Carter did a brilliant job with the part, played it incredibly well and gave an Academy Award-worthy performance.
Depp was a great Sweeney as well.
I love their collaborations even if at this point a lot of it can be predictable.
Those photos look fantastic, I just love the photos of Anne Hathaway and Carter, can't wait to see this!
I too am confused by the hate for Burton and his constant casting of Depp/Carter. While I completely agree that there are others out there to cast, so what? It's not like he's constantly casting Paris Hilton or someone lacking talent. Each and every role both actors have been cast in they were completely perfect for. Pitch-perfect singing aside, was Helena not a great new take on Mrs. Lovett? Does she not look FANTASTIC in these photos they have released with her as The Red Queen? I mean come on! Every role she plays, regardless of Burton, is completely different. Can you really say her takes on Marla Singer, Nellie Lovett, Elizabeth, or Ari the Ape are all the same?
Johnny Depp is known as being this transformative actor for a reason. Although I do agree he sometimes looks similar in that same Burton pale manner, every person he plays comes from a completely different place. This month's Variety even talks about how Depp gets so in character that his retreat to his private island is the only way to really "recover" from the people he becomes (he also says how he always gets sick after a production because his body is just so completely exhausted). Just counting his Burton collaborations, Edward (Scissorhands), Ichabod, Sweeney, Willy, and Ed (Wood) are about as different from each other as you can possibly get.
People need to realize that this Burton is an actual auteur and not just some director who can churn out endless crap without some sort of signature. People don't complain when Scorsese casts Robert De Niro, Tarantino casts Tim Roth, or Woody Allen casts Diane Keaton/Mia Farrow/Scarlett Johansson.
And what of Christopher Guest? He has been using more or less the same troupe of actors for a number of films now and if anything it makes them that much stronger and funnier. In fact, seeing the same set of actors in similar films playing new characters adds an entire dimension to the art that would otherwise not exist. Marilyn Hack (Catherine O'Hara) is ridiculous, biting, and tragically hilarious (or is that hilariously tragic?), in part because we have seen her Sheila, her Mickey, her canine-obsessed Cookie Fleck. It all works so well because Guest knows what he needs from his actors and knows how to get it. I'm just not sure why the Burton/Depp/Carter collaboration seems to bother so many. To me they fit rather perfectly into the various magical worlds he so perfectly creates.

Well said, Mormon.
Johnny is really up there with the best of the best. Why he hasn't received an academy award thus far is shocking. He's a fantastic actor and if Tim has the pull to have Johnny play any role from Ichabod Crane to Sweeney Todd, why not have him? I'm sure Burton also picks some projects based around the fact that he CAN have Depp, and hell, I would too if I could work with one of the best actors of this generation and therefore guarantee that I'll always get a stunning leading performance.
As for Big Fish, that is one of my favorite movies of all time. A masterpiece in my opinion.
