Last year around this time they announced who was getting the honors this last December. I just googled and have not found any announcements. Anyone know anything? I am hoping for Liza, Dick Van Dyke, and Anita Oday.

I actually think George Carlin was up this year....I forget where I saw/read/heard that.
He is getting a Mark Twain award by the Kennedy Center.

That's what was! I knew the KC was involved somehow.
It's a separate comedy award they do..
But back to Kennedy Center Honors.. anyone know anything?
Jerry Herman absolutely deserves this honor.
They still have not announced the list?
I find it annoying that when I google Kennedy Center Honors 2008, I get this thread as a top search. Shouldn't message board posts not register?
I'd like to see Streisand honored, though, I've heard she won't accept the award until a Democrat is in office.
I agree. Streisand would also be a good choice. Would they do Streisand and Liza in the same year?
There is NO WAY that Barbra Streisand is going to be "honored" under the present administration! (But just wait until next year! )
I think the second Obama is in there they will honor her. I wonder why they have not made a announcement yet. Usually by this time of the year they already say who is being honored. Their website has not been updated since last year. Hmmm.
Sueleen, I'm leavin' it all up to you. hoo hoo.
Go for it Sueleen. Get the peitition going.

It's time for Loretta Swit to get the recognition she deserves.

I don't think the current administration decides who is or isn't honored. The Kennedy Center Honors makes the offer, and it's the individual who decides whether or not to accept. Katherine Hepburn famously declined during Republican administrations - but it WAS offered to her.
It's difficult for me to imagine Ms. Striesand not having been offered, and I assume the declination was hers.
They probably have not offered knowing that at he moment she will say no.
I think it's still a little early, Dame. I don't believe they announced them until mid September last year.
Really? Because I rember Ms Ross talking about her honor for a whole year before hand.
Ms. Ross is always talking about her honors!
The KC usually announces the honorees in the fall.
There ARE members of the current administration on the board as well as several presidential appointees. The first lady is always the honorary chair, I believe.
So, although there is not supposed to be any "political bias," I doubt that someone as controversial and outspoken a Democrat as La Streisand will be seriously considered in this election year. (Not that she would accept it anyway!)
I went back and checked the Washington Post's archives. The article appeared there on 9/12. I think it was 9/11 for some evening papers.
Morgan Freeman, George Jones, Twyla Tharp, and Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey, too!
BABS! That is all that matters.
