I have to give this woman kudos! She shone in practically every sketch they handed her. Even the turkeys that got cut. I think last night's program proved that it is just as much the guest host's talent and willingness to commit tthat makes a successful funny show as the writing.
it was nice to see the cast trying to keep up with the host rather then the opposite!
I was going to ask you about her so I'm glad you posted! I hope that she was great to deal with because she seems like she would be. She definitely committed to her character- especially Arlene- the sexual harrasser! However, they really need to get some better writers! I've been watching since day 1 and lately- it seems like they save all the really good stuff for Justin Timberlake! Anyway- love that you posted this. Overall- most of the critics have been giving her excellent reviews. This is HER year!
She was actually wonderful to work with. Was exceedingly appreiciative of the work that others did to help her on the show. A real refreshing attitude.
There seems to be an "I can't believe this is happening" sense to her right now.
Yay! See Snaf- there are people in this world who are "old school". She definitely deserves all of this positive attention!
I'm in love with her right now. She stole every scene she was in in Bridesmaids.
And even though last night's show was a little undercooked writing-wise, she made every skit hilarious.
My favorite was the salad dressing taste test. I'm still laughing just thinking about it.
"No one likes you, Susan. We all hate you."
Lol!!
I finally caught up with "Bridesmaids" last night, and I agree, Taz: she walked off with every scene she was in.
Lots of misfires last night--what was up with that Lulu Diamonds sketch?--but she was always fun to watch.
I gave up after SNL Update. Big letdown after last week. She did however make it bearable.
Been trying to find Shweddy Balls ice cream but so far no luck. Baldwin was dead on as Tony Bennett. Cannot stand him as a person but separate that from him as a performer. He was great last week.
That's too bad Roxy, one of the funniest and best acted sketch occured after Update. The Taste Test. Absolutely brilliantly acted!
Melissa's energy was palpable, and she was so committed. I never noticed her looking at the cues either, impressive!
She should be a regular cast member. Wow! Blown away by her. And yes, she did steal the spotlight in BRIDESMAIDS...which in theory is difficult to do when working alongside Kristen Wiig and (name escaping me!!!?).
During the opening monologue and end-of-show send-off, you could tell she was living a dream come true hosting SNL. I hope she comes back!
I have adored her for a while now, so it's so fun watching her get the attention she deserves with the Emmy and SNL. To top it off, she and another actress, who may never have imagined getting such attention (Octavia Spencer), are currently the two front runners for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Either winning will make me extremely joyful.
Not only did I enjoy her throughout and especially the Taste Test sketch, but I had to rewind the end of the last sketch 3 times because she was so funny.

Melissa trivia for the uninformed:
The "air marshall" in Bridesmaids is her real life husband.
She is Jenny Mccarthy's cousin.
She was marvelous. First time I've laughed out loud in years of watching SNL.
A look at Lulu Diamonds, one of Vaudeville's stars, known for her blatant sexuality and catchphrase, "Why don't you come upstairs and see me up there sometime?"

Taste Test
I kept waiting for the Lulu Diamonds sketch to be funny. Maybe I just didn't get it.
Reginald. I thought for sure it was going to be cut after dress. Guess they spent too much on having that staircase built overnight.
Yeah, it looked great; she looked great. I just kept waiting . . .
It was funnier when they tried doing it in Black and White. Seems no one thought that the red carpeting on the stairs and her dress would both read as black. When she fell down the stairs she just looked like the Head in Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.
Generally liked it, but loved her. I think she made mediocre material better and was great. A couple of misses, but enough hits to make me want to see her on the show again. I actually would have loved to see dueling Target ladies.
Thanks for all of the info Snafu.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned it (although Melissa McCarthy wasn't in this one)--I thought the "Comments Section" skit was hilarious and the highlight of the show.
SNAFU -- did they discuss at all doing a BRIDESMAIDS parody sketch?
Can't say. I don't go to the table reads on Wednesday.
Comments Section was definitely highly amusing.
