Congrats!
Ooh, question time!
Favorite brand of chapstick?
Mayo or Gravy?
Shave or wax?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
There's always SOMEONE around, trust me.
Congrats Jilani! Once your name is in the title, it's your crown.

Favorite brand of chapstick?
OK, so the lawyer in me can't resist pointing out that Chapstick is actually itself a brand; it's a registered trademark. But in terms of lip balm, I don't have a favorite brand . . .
Mayo or Gravy?
Gravy, if forced to choose one, but I'd really rather neither one.
Shave or wax?
Hmmm - each has its own appropriate context, I would say.

I think that it still objectively does make a sound.

Thanks, shameless!
What has given you the most pleasure in the last year?
The opportunity to reconnect with many old friends with whom I had lost touch, courtesy of facebook.
What's something that we would be surprised to learn about you?
I'm not sure how much people on here know about me to begin with, as I think of myself as more of a supporting player on this board, so it's hard to know what people might be surprised by. But maybe some people would find it interesting that I grew up living in 8 different countries.
If your house were on fire, what material possessions would you grab on the way out?
I really don't own much that isn't easily replaced. I'd probably take my laptop, since it contains all of the pictures I've taken ever since I had a digital camera, as well as my e-mail correspondence, and it's portable.

Turkey, Colombia, Mali, the U.S. (in Washington, DC), Tunisia, the U.A.E., Qatar, and Bahrain. My father was in the Foreign Service (he's now retired).
Congratulations, Jilani!
I don't have any questions, but I am enjoying how effortlessly you field them. If I ever need a good lawyer, I know where to go.

Thanks, miss pennywise! You are DC-based, aren't you? My dad lives in Fairfax now, so I return to the area every so often. I think Washington is a great city.
If you're ever in the area with some time to spare and you want to have coffee or a drink, let me know! Dc is a beautiful city, I agree. (And it will be even more beautiful come january 2009. )
To a fellow Bostonian!

Thanks jaystarr!

My best friend would tell you that I am a great listener and have an easy laugh, and it would be pretty dead on!
What’s something that you’ve never done, but have always wanted to try?
I would love to try either scuba or sky diving at some point.

I think the best gifts are often experiences, rather than material possessions. My youngest brother is about to graduate from West Point, and who knows when the next time will be that he can experience live theater (and he currently can't really afford to). So the weekend before the strike kicked in, I took him to see Spamalot and Wicked, both of which he loved. As for the last great gift I was given, it was tickets to see Lily Tomlin performing live in Houston a few weeks ago, with an invitation to a reception afterwards to meet her.
What was your first job?
Because I grew up mostly as a U.S. citizen overseas, I wasn't really eligible for a job until college, so my first job was working as a research assistant for a professor of finance.
So when do I need to pass on the title of MBCotD? Does this really last over the weekend?
your answers are great Jilani. I'm glad to get to know you a little better throught this thread.

What kind of law do you practice?
I did corporate law at a big Boston law firm for a few years, and now I work in-house for a health care company, where I do a little of everything, including corporate, health care, employment, and intellectual property.

I think I will open up the process to the broader group, in the spirit of making decisions by consensus. Thanks for the opportunity!

Not that I'm authorized to do so, but I say let's just give it to the Deer.
I think the Deer's answers would probably be the best thing since Izzy's Baby.
I hate to point out that this has now been slogged to page 3.
