Ok, before we turn this into something sexual, I am seriously looking for a place where I can get a good, resonable massage. I am having neck/shoulder problems and am in so much pain just trying to hold my head up right now (yet it hurts to lie down too). Its really getting unbearable, and I feel like crying. Does anyone know of someplace I can go that is trustworthy? There are so many places and it makes me nervous that I'll end up in some happy ending facility. I am looking for something thats not too expensive. Thanks guys.

First off, 800 mg of ibuprofen (with a little food or milk). And take that heavy wizard cap off your head, that's what's weighin' you down.

You missed NYC Spa Week. Well, not technically, since it is going on this coming weekend and will last to next, but it had offers of $25 for 45-60 min massages at great day spas in the city. But most of those treatments have been booked for the past three weeks.

I'd recommend Graceful Services, in the East 60's on 2nd Avenue. They claim to use qigong (Eastern techniques) in their massage. Whatever it is, they are amazing. My misgivings about the place is that the atmosphere is very clinical (you're separated from the treatment next to you by a curtain, as if they would put up in a doctor's office. And if you don't mind being a bit slick with the massage oil they use.

Mario Badescu offers excellent services at reasonable prices.

Skip the 'trendy' places like Bliss. Not worth it.

I also enjoy Oasis. I take Yoga there, and they have a full spa. I've a massage there a few times, and it was very therapeutic.

Forget Icy Hot. You really should try ThermaCare Heat Wraps. They come in a red box and are sold over the counter in just about every pharmacy. They're great! They have built-in discs which are automatically activated and heat up when you open the package. There are several types, including one specifically for next and shoulder pain. I have lower back problems and the one for lower back pain works great. You wear the patch for 8 hours, but the therapeutic effect lasts for days. You can wear it all night while you sleep, or you can wear it under your clothes during the day. Give it a try!

I swear by Tiger Balm. Strong scent but works like a charm. Chinese accupuncture is great. I wonder if Sally Dan is still working in Manhattan. She used to be on 56th (ish) near 6th Ave. She worked miracles for me.

cookie - I'm sorry, I didn't see your post earlier.

I've been to both, but I've taken the yoga classes at Park.

Carapan on 16th Street and Nickel on 8th Ave are great spas for massage. Wherever you go, spring for 90 minutes instead of 60 minutes--that extra half hour can do miracles.

Tell the massage practitioner to go as deep as possible, and breathe through any discomfort before saying ouch. Drink a lot of water after the massage, to help flush out the toxins that the massage will draw out. Do something gentle after the massage, like taking a hot bath and going to sleep.

I was given a gift certificate for a massage at Carapan and I went after running the NYC marathon. The therapist (male) would not massage my gluteus maximus. I had just run 26.2 miles and he skipped over it. I asked him to massage deeper and not to neglect my glutes but apparantly he had an issue with it.
