The medal ceremony just went off here. I still have tears in my eyes. Gotta love Alex Bilodeau!
Anyone watching the pairs? I just got home in time for it.
As much as I enjoy watching skating, the judging infuriates me. I gave them credit for installing a new scoring system, which seemed to help at first. However, they now seem to be back in their old groove of judging by reputation rather than by performance.
I've been watching since the start, Jane!
And, Madbrian, the judging is awful!
Even with the mistake, I thought the German couple skated a beautiful program. Plus I think Robin is quite the hottie.
And shame on the announcers for ignoring the absurd judging. They almost went there last night, when the short program scores were laughable, but backed off.
I agree about Robin, Dottie! We're always attracted to the same men!
I can't believe the Zhens are only ahead by less than a point! Where's the judging police when you need them? harumph
That was breathtaking!!!!!!!
That was beautiful.
I love how Scott's voice cracked baffled by the deduction based on the musical choice.
Jane2, remember that Zhen and Xhao skated first in the short program so I'm not surprised that the later skaters were marked higher, although they were still in first place. Now after that last performance by the other Chinese pair, this is getting very interesting.
You can go to www.vancouver2010.com and see the details of the scoring. The judges have discretion to add or subtract points for grade of execution. They basically throw points at the Russians and Germans, despite their lackluster performance.
Pang and Tong were superb.
And a little preview to the men's event: Plushenko and his entourage have been whining about everything. They have the audacity to say that the judges favor North Americans (really), and they're complaing about the start order for the short program.
Meh he likes to create antagonists. In 2002 him and Yagudin had a rivalry going too. Judges are the easiest targets.
I admit, I think the 3 medalists are where they should be. The judges got it right this time.
YAY!!!!!!
She is just so lovely!
I'm so happy for those two despite that one mistake. I was wondering why lady judge gasped at first.
Yes, good thing they won, or I was going to lodge a complaint.
Dottie, about the judging - you're right, I understand.
I'm just making this announcement right now, lol = when it comes to Plushenko, I am totally unreasonable. he can do no wrong by me. No one compares to him. I'm obsessed.
But I understand there will be plenty of dissenters, and I respect you all!
Oh, no, Jane2 I'm going to have to bite my tongue then tomorrow night. I'm no fan of Pleshenko.
madbrian, see I'd be throwing points at the German couple because Robin is cute. They definitely weren't the best couple tonight, but I thought there performance was very musical.
I wish the Winter Olympics were every two years instead of wedging the summer games in there and making us wait for FOIUR long years!!!!
No Dottie, don't bite your tongue. I can take it! I might be the only fan of Plushenko around here!
I think other than Yvgeny (sp?) and Oksana, you and I generally see eye-to-eye when it comes to figure skating!!
I'm happy with the top 3. As long as Robin got a medal, it's all good. ('Cause we get to see him on the podium, Dottie!)
I don't know, Miss P, I think I might like the Summer Olympics more. All of the events in the Winter Olympics make me so nervous! =P
