Obama condemns holocaust- predictably, National Review disagrees

No, I don't agree with that because in each and every case excuses will be made, differentiating incidents from one another when the behaviors, at core, aren't different.

Israelites wiping out tribes populating Canaan and laying claim to property 3,500 years ago really isn't any different than Nazis doing the same.

"Israelites wiping out tribes populating Canaan and laying claim to property 3,500 years ago really isn't any different than Nazis doing the same."

Oh dear. That statement says it all. You're twisted. It's a waste of time trying to discuss this with you if that's how you see things. Equating those two shows you don't know the first thing you're talking about. Or maybe you do know the difference but choose not to because of bigotry.

So do you think, Yawper, that too much of a fuss is made about the Holocaust at the expense of other historical atrocities?

Okay, fools rush in...

I understand and appreciate pal joey's point that each atrocity is sui generis.

But is it realistic to expect human beings not to create categories of evil? Aren't our brains wired by evolution to make such comparisons? (I.e., some animals are good to eat, some animals will kill you, some plants are healing, some plants are poisonous, etc.)

That isn't to say we should construct such categories glibly (comparing, say, George W. Bush to Hitler).

But isn't there some value in recognizing that the conquest of Native Americans by Europeans was a systematic program of genocide not so very dissimilar to German efforts to rid their "lebensraum" of Jews and Slavs? At the very least such a comparison pushes back against the image we get from films and TV of "cowboys and Indians" as roughy matched and ethically equivalent foes.

You were right on the first point. If only you could contain yourself. And to preempt your dismissing my criticism as part of some grudge you have managed to create in your mind, I am responding to what you just posted. In this thread. Right above. Just now.

No, Gaveston: "Bush (or anyone/thing) to Hitler" - hyperbole, perhaps. And whether you're conserv or lib, should never be used, imo.

Typical White Supremecist comment...like I haven't heard this BS a zillion times. Almost comical in it's uncreative ignorance.

Bim Colyer, are you one of those yahoo skinheads who wear those hats with containers for beer, that have tubes from the beer that goes into your mouth? that's the type I see on tv who don't believe in the "Holocaust."
