I am, too!
I just didn't expect this beauty.
Although, if I'd stopped to really think about it, how could it have not been so? Russian culture is so rich and has given us some of the great masterpieces of music, ballet, art, literature... I think this Ceremony has captured it beautifully. It's been magical.

Posted: 2/7/14 at 11:00pmI can't imagine how fabulous this looks in person. i'm transfixed by it on the tv screen. Outer space!

I now wish like hell that I was there. (I had the chance to be on this 'wave' of the trips, but I opted for wave 2, thinking it was best to avoid the early days and this ceremony - given all of the security concerns).
I was at the Vanouver Opening Ceremony - and also recorded it, so I could see how it came across on the TV when I got home - and there was no comparison. Being there in person was pure magic.
THIS has been just brilliant.

I also love the way they use every bit of space in the stadium.
They did that in Vancouver, also. We all had to wear ice blue ponchos, to create a palatte on which they projected images throughout the program. (In addition to our participating with lights, drums and other props).

Posted: 2/7/14 at 11:12pmwow Addy! I don't know what your job is, but lucky you! I'm in awe of outer space, and being in large arenas filled with lights. I can see why you regret not going.

I wish I was there to see the fireworks now!! They look amazing!
(Jane - advertising. I run the account of one of the global advertisers that is an Olympics sponsor - so am invited by NBC to attend with my clients. And, yes, I am extraordinarily lucky!)

Bravo to all involved.

I agree with you about Russian art and creativity. Just watching Anna Netrebko tore me into pieces.
Perhaps someday there will be a government in Russia as enlightened as the art they have created for centuries.
I can't wait to hear your stories when you get back!

The "doves", and what they symbolize, was a highlight for me.
Overall, I loved the whole thing.
Well done, Konstantin Ernst!

Thank you!
PJ - that's my hope, as well. That the good people, and all of the creative beauty, of Russia can survive this oppressive government and find a way to bring freedom back to their land.
I promise to take photos, and share lots of stories!

Posted: 2/8/14 at 2:06amI don't know about anyone else, but I had a really hard time hearing the commentary track on NBC. The balance between the booth and the field was way off.

My favorite part was when Putin let his mistress carry the Olympic torch.
Sad that NBC edited out IOC President Thomas Bach's anti-discrimination statement.

Posted: 2/8/14 at 9:59amI can't find fault with that ceremony. Anxious to watch the games today, and especially the skating!

Posted: 2/8/14 at 2:02pmNBC sports channel is airing skating right now. I saw Meryl Davis and Charlie White earlier. They were fantastic. I only was able to watch an hour because I had to go out, so I missed the ladies team short program. And I'm just tuning back in now to pairs.

Posted: 2/8/14 at 2:39pmI don't get that NBC sports channel, so I'm watching skiing on the regular NBC.

Posted: 2/8/14 at 2:42pmYeah, I just turned on regular NBC because they switched the coverage to that right now. Good to know if I continue to watch NBC Sports to not spoil it for others who don't get that channel and are waiting to see stuff in prime time.
