The only time I go to bars these days is for either Musical Mondays or some bar with a outside view. Like happy hour at Mickys where I can sit outside in the sunshine. Mostly to hang with friends. The Abbey is some sort of meat market with straight hawkers. It doesn't work for me. That is all.

Yea. I haven't been to a bar in years. I actually visisted one in Vegas a few weeks back and didn't stay 1/2 an hour.

They could just simply ask the partygoers to leave, citing house policy about conduct that they would have disclosed to anyone wanting an event there before the fact. One strike, you're out, kind of thing. Banning straight women seems to be fighting discrimination with discrimination.

They could just put a ban on bad behavior for anyone being obnoxious, destructive, disruptive, rude, etc. Bouncers are a good thing. If they are feeling overwhelmed by bachelorette parties, they could just limit them to a certain number per month, e.g. But, it's the owners' bar. They can do whatever they want with it.

Isn't Cho bisexual? So in her case, it doesn't seem hypocritical to talk about the gay community, as she is part of it.

And I think the bar is right on with this. It's just rude to go into an establishment that's there to serve a minority and remind that minority of the rights they are denied, even if no offense was meant.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Well, even if she isn't, it doesn't particularly bother me that she talks about gay stuff in her act. Both her and Kathy Griffin have done enough for the gay community in terms of philanthropy and activism that I think their affection for the gay community is genuine, and not just to make money.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Let me just say that women's bachelorette parites are usually pretty skanky no matter what kind of bar they have them in. The only difference I can see is (as said by others) is the 'safety' factor. Any time a person treats another like an object (gay, straight -- doesn't matter) is disgusting. I stopped going to these things years ago -- I didnt' see the fun in them.

I applaud the message behind the owners, becaue this is truly a case of putting your money where your mouth is. He isn't going to change anything (sadly) but he's making a statement.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I don't go to bars at all anymore, but 15 years or so I practically lived at a couple in Nashville. A bachelerotte party would come in every other Friday or so. They would all be dressed up, wearing tiaras and sashes, drinking from penis shaped sippy bottles, wearing condoms and penis shaped jewelry and get as drunk as possible. They usually crowded in the show bar, taking up three or four tables. They made more noise than the music the drag queens were performing. They would do whatever it took to be the center of attention, with the bride often trying to get on the stage. It was a big old mess. The trouble was that many of the men feed into it. They joined in with the ruckus and gave these chicks exactly what they were looking for, attention from gorgeous men with no chance of having to call off the wedding.

Was every bachelerotte party like that? Probably not. Those were just the ones you saw. I don't think gay marriage was even on my radar at that point, so that's not what ever annoyed me. It was just the general behavior. Now I don't think I could let it slide without questioning those participating. Oh, the money I would have paid to see my beloved Bianca Paige call them out on marriage equality. She managed to get plenty of digs in at them on other topics.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

It should be noted -- not as a defense of the obnoxious, objectifying straight-girls-in-gay-bars, but as context -- that the "my gays"/"the gays" phraseologies, attitudes, and behaviors are reinforced and encouraged by loads and loads of gay men, many (not all, but many) of the same men who worship at the shrines of Kathy Griffin and Gaga. This behavior is epidemic in bars all over. I try not to judge it too harshly, as I believe it's part of the gay community being in its relative youth as a public minority, and people are seeking validation all over the place in a heteronormative culture.

It's the same impulse that makes moderately effeminate gay men view themselves as "str8-acting" and disparage very effeminate gay men as "queeny" and allows them to thoughtlessly hurl the word "fag" as an epithet, as though it had no history outside of our community. It's what makes "masculine" gay men say things like "If I wanted to date a girl, I'd be straight." We have enough trouble without being so awful to each other. I hope against hope it's a phase.

But I disgress. Let's not get too blamey on the straight girls.

They engage in this behavior because they've got an audience eating it up and begging for more.

Well the gay community has become a disgustingly divisive community with every person needing to fit perfectly into one of our "cliques" on order to feel accepted. Our worth isn't based on who we are but how many hours we spend at the gym. Reading countless online profiles on supposed "normal" dating websites that say things like "No abs, don't bother" or "Quality for quality only" just prove we're quickly becoming as shallow as we're made out to be on tv and are turning ourselves into objects, so women doing the same thing shouldn't bother most gays.

I agree, Jordan, but hasten to add -- and make the same disclaimer about my post above -- that's just one part of the community. I have plenty of gay friends both in NYC and my home city that do not share those attitudes and behaviors. It's rife certain parts of the social scene. I tend to avoid places that attract that crowd. I say let them fight that nonsense out with each other. And, again, I hope it's just a phase of our social infancy.

But I'm finding that attitude is creeping into even the smallest of "groups" in the community. I'm not speaking for every gay man because there certainly are a lot that don't subscribe to that mindset, but they appear to becoming fewer and farther between.
