Bingo, Phyllis. I've gotten into many arguments with friends about this, but saying "no blacks" indicates more than a preference to what turns you on. It's just another way of saying "all black people look alike."

I agree, Calvin (and Phyllis). I think there's a difference between being aware one has an unconscious preference (especially when it comes to long-term partners) and actually being "repulsed" by everyone of a certain race. I was trying to make that clear and probably did a bad job of it. Thanks to everyone for being gracious anyway.

African American are also very objectified in the gay community. They are synonymous to many as having large penises, so men pursue them solely for sexual gain. They are not considered viable relationship material. It's another form of racism.

There's a lot of anecdotal information from men of color as just being disgustied by how they are approached by men of other races.

There's a great book called "Hung:A Meditation On Black Men In America" that addresses this topic.

OK! To get back on track: We don't want rowdy groups of women throwing bridal showers in our bars but they like loud disco music, barely dressed boys and drag queens. Can't they go see Priscilla? If I owned that show I'd sell a "Bridal shower party" packager with the fake bridal veil and champagne at intermission and drag the bride up onstage for the finale. Problems solved.

I sorta agree, but at the same time, is it different from people who go out exclusively to try to pick up. What I find offensive is the outright negativity; "No blacks, no fems, all str8acting please". I think the experience of cruising at a bar, and I assume cruising pre online hookup sites, is that you meet people and figure out a connection, or so not figure out a connection.
