Those are your beliefs. My beliefs are that the power of prayer or just keeping somebody in your thoughts is powerful, so I believe that it will accomplish something. Please keep your negative thoughts to yourself next time.
I posted this but for some reason it disappeared.
Anyway, here it is again.
lifeisacabaret - when someone YOU love is hurt/sick you'll understand. Some people think positive vibes etc. is too new-agey, but I've seen it make a difference in people's lives.
I may not know Parks personally, but I know him from these boards. Praying for others isn't about how well you know someone, it's about generosity of spirit.
Parks - both you and your friend are in my thoughts.
He is in my thoughts, I hope he gets better.
And one doesn't have to pray, I see many people sending "positive vibes" and "keeping him in their thoughts"
It's not a religious thing, it's a human thing.
I'm sending up a prayer for your friend, you, and his family! Hang in there, Parks. I know how you feel.
Lifeisacaberet: I'm assuming that you don't believe in God if you are saying that prayer is worthless, but many, myself included believe in the power of positive thought and of a Higher Power. Even if you don't believe, who wouldn't want someone sending them good thoughts and wishes to get better?
Sorry, Parks. I hope everything works out for the best.
You're in my thoughts and so is your friend.

I am not a Pray-er but will certainly be thinking of Parks this week and sending out good wishes. It's a hard time for Parks & his friend and who could begrudge him whatever comfort??
Parks, if only there was a way to know which posts were going to be positive and which were going to be negative. I will say a prayer for your friend and his family and his friends.
Now, to lifeis, let me offer a different view of prayer, one offered in the play "Shadowlands," that summarizes a view of C.S. Lewis:
"I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I am helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God. It changes me."

"It's not a religious thing, it's a human thing."
Agreed.
I'm not a "Pray-er" (as Joe put it) but he'll be in my thoughts and I hope for a recovery.
Parks, please keep us updated.
I hope and pray that your friend gets well very soon, Parks !!!
Wow lifeis....
you are very insensitive. I may not know Parks personally, but I've seen his posts on here and responded to several (Sarah Silverman comes to mind). BWW can be a very tight-knit community. I have met several people from the boards locally here in CA and they are wonderful people.
And prayer or not -truthfully I'm not at all religious- sending positive vibes out someones way, while it may or may not help, who knows? and who does it hurt? As I said in my earlier Post, Parks' friend is lucky to have people who care about him enough to ask for thoughts in a forum like this.
Parks-I really do hope your friend gets better. Ignore this person who is clearly just looking to stir things up.

Thank you everyone for your support. This is the lastest update on Matt:

okay everyone, we have a very small amount of encouraging news, just in the sense of faith and spirit of Mathieu. This morning, when his mom was in talking to him, she mentioned that they were feeding him McDonald's french fries (his favorite) and he sort of started to "chew" on his feeding tube and make eating sounds...that's pretty cool and it gives us a lot of hope that he hears everyone and knows we are all there. They are doing his EEG test as we speak and we are praying for improvement. Please keep prayers and thoughts uplifted and positive because our boy is fighting a good fight. We love you baby boy, keep fighting!
Also, I've included a picture (he's on top). He's a beautiful person.
