I think they need new judges. They are too predictable.
Heidi likes it if she or Seal would wear it. If she wouldn't wear it, she hates it. Her favorite put down is "it looks cheap". Her favorite compliment is "it looks expensive. I'd wear it."
Michael likes things that are "super chic." It is funny that he puts down things as "matronly" all the time when he designs for all the old broads he disses, Joan Collins included. He is a boring designer who makes pant suits for old actresses. Michael tends to go along with what the ladies say.
Nina loves "volume" and "plays on volume." If you want to impress Nina add poofs. Remember Bradley made that hideous top in like 5 minutes before Runway and Nina went nuts. Nina loves voluminous pieces.

Posted: 7/31/08 at 12:03pmI think it's the right mix of judges. But Betty, you're absolutely right...Heidi is ALWAYS saying that!
#154re: Project Runway 5
Posted: 7/31/08 at 12:04pmI suspect that the move to LA will necessitate new judges. I doubt that Nina and Michael could leave NYC for LA for the length of time that filming involves.

I hate that they're going to L.A.
Jane, I didn't mean to ignore your post when you addressed me...sorry! You are right, they do tend to reward the au courant or riskier design. Sometimes that's the right decision, but there have been times I've disagreed.

I really liked the challenge last night, but I was surprised by their inspirations. It seems that they all went more abstract...probably so they had more creative liscense. Not that it's a bad thing. When they showed a shot of the Chrysler Building all lit up I wondered if anybody would dare try using that. I don't know if you could top Jay's Chrysler Building-inspired dress for the Banana Republic challenge on the first season.
I liked Kenley's dress in theory, but I really didn't like the fabric and I didn't see how the fabric had anything to do with her picture at all. She said something about how it looked painted....okay....I guess. It was a tad too 80's silouhette for me, but overall I liked it.
I was surprised that Teri didn't win, just because the judges really seemed to be digging it.
I was happy that Leann stepped up...I thought her design was one of the most wearable of the top. Different, but not outlandish.
I can't remember the two guys' names, but one used a fountain and made a really extravagant ball gown and I thought it looked impeccable and the other used a decorative light and I thought it was pretty and looked really well-made.
Blayne is crazy. What a weirdo. Half of me thinks he's just doing it for attention on the TV. But the other half of me thinks....wow dude...he's crazy. The staring thing with Kenley, weird!

I would love to see Sandra Bernhard come back and judge again. I loved what she said about the blue outfit and the girl saying "I will cut you"!

I know I might be a lone dissenter, but I am really worn out on the Kenleys of the world. I mean, isnt the whole 40's pinup girl, Betty Page thing been done to death. She is a yawn to me in every way, shape and form. Her look is so overdone. Dime a dozen.
If they move to LA, they might lose Nina and Michael. Tim is in. He's already given interviews saying he found a place to stay and is nervous about having to drive a car regularly.
If they move to LA, Sandy B could be a regular judge. :)

But she herself dresses as a Betty Pin-up style. She doesn't necessarily design that way at all times.
A good designer has an eye for what the public will wear even if it's not their own personal style
While others *coughStellacough* design for themselves.
lol I still love her obsession with "Letha" though. She knows who she is and that's great. It's just not enough to win PR.
Santino can be a judge in LA!

I don't think Blayne is crazy. Having dealt with a lot of addicts in my lifetime, he has the tell-tale signs of an ex-addict, probably crystal. Just an assumption, but he seems quite slow on the pickup to be just plain crazy.

Too funny, Reg!

I laugh every time I think of Andre. He was one of the best contestants, personality-wise.
Remember when he cried and ran off the runway? It was an awwwww and haha moment at the same time. And remember how his eyes used to bulge out?

Posted: 7/31/08 at 11:49pmOf course! He looked a little like Marshall Applewhite when he did that. He managed to win everyone over anyway because he was genuinely good natured and really talented. His "gutter water" gown remains one of my favorites.

Did anyone see the ew.com article with Emily? I think she's nuts! She contradicts herself in every answer. Even the interviewer is like WHAT?
Also, you know how they're always saying that taste is a huge part of being a designer (which I would think is common sense). I would say that after the discussion with Tim, the judges comments, and having the chance to see the show now...she still loves the dress...girl might be lacking in the taste department. Although, I looked at her designs in the collection she put out and they're all nice. Nothing new or different...but cute stuff.
Anyway...here's the article: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20216012,00.html?xid=rss-googlegadget-tvheadlines-20080801-%27Project+Runway%27+exit+Q%26A%3A+Emily

Boy she's a tad arrogant, isn't she?
I agree the clothes are cute, but nothing new. I'd wear most of it!
