Under the circumstances, it's the LEAST they should do.
GOP Considers Delaying Convention: Tropical Storm Gustav Is Forecast to Hit U.S. Next Week as Hurricane
If they have it and there's a hurricane - can we take bets on whether GWB will show up?

So now they're getting all sensitive about natural disasters?
Their God has really lousy aim, doesn't he? He was supposed to screw up OBAMA'S convention with rain, not MCCAIN'S. That Focus On The Family guy has a lot of splainin' to do.
Karma is a bitch!
Any religious leader praying for something bad to happen to ANYONE is bound to piss the Gods off.
whoops... Stuart Shephard... wha' happen'?
From a meeting planner's perspective, how do they do that? It's not easy just to move an event of that magnitude, considering all the travel bookings and such involved.
I say they just postpone the entire Republican Party. Just disband for the 2008 election and take a few years to regroup.
Cancel the convention, and encourage everyone associated with it to donate money to the Red Cross. That might be the best PR tactic.
Geez....McCain's biggest crowd to date has only been 3,000?!
"The McCain campaign is hoping to have 15,000 people at the Ohio rally — roughly five times the size of his largest crowd to date."

There is no way in hell they can cancel the convention- which is the only option (You just can't reschedule something like this). They will just have to open each session with 30 minutes of prayers for those poor people in New Orleans and fly over it on the way home.
I just got this e-mail....
"Some of you may recall about two months ago, when the Colorado Springs based, ‘Focus on the Family’ aired a video urging it’s followers to pray for a deluge of rain during the Democratic National Convention in Denver?
Ironically, during Thursday’s acceptance speech, it was a beautiful evening with temperatures in the upper 70’s.
Poignantly enough, there is a Hurricane (Gustav) approaching the Gulf Coast of the United States . While none of us would ever wish such destruction upon our people as we saw with the fury of Katrina, it’s mighty ironic that the prayers of these people have turned against them now with the possibility of the postponement of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Makes you think doesn’t it…"
It was a beautiful evening. As a lot of you know, I was there.

I wouldn't bet on anything being re-scheduled. It isn't like Republicans have any concern for the victims of hurricanes.
And its only New Orleans again. Yawn. If it was Crawford Texas, they'd be up in arms.
Re-scheduling wouldn't happen out of respect and concern for the victims as much as it would to insure not having the public's attention diverted from the convention rah-rah hoopla.
They've decided to go on like the troupers they are.
BTW, has it been mentioned that..."Barack Obama's audience for his acceptance speech likely topped 40 million people, and the Democratic gathering that nominated him was a more popular television event than any other political convention in history.
More people watched Obama speak from a packed stadium in Denver on Thursday than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year..."
40 million people
Very interesting tally and I'd hate to contribute to the GOPs numbers next week, but I will tune in when Palin accepts the nomination of VP.
