Is anyone else seeing it either tonight at midnight or on opening day tomorrow?

A friend and I are huge "Scream" fanatics, so we got tickets to the 12:01 in Herald Square tonight. I'm excited to 1) finally see an installment of the franchise in theaters and 2) see the continuation of the series that sparked my obsession with horror movies.

Planning on seeing it tomorrow.

Here is Salon's Andrew O'Hehir review that has me hoping for the best:

"It's mildly pleasant to see Cox and Arquette work their shtick together, and Campbell manages to keep her sober, haunted demeanor intact throughout the silliness. There are some nice supporting bits, including Alison Brie (of NBC's "Community") as an overly wired, multitasking young publicist who tells Cox's Gale, "You were my '90s" -- we're glad to see Ghostface dispose of her! -- and Anthony Anderson as a wisecracking deputy whose fate is sadder. As usual, Craven and Williamson have a nicely concealed plot switchback and a ponderous conclusion, which reaches for a "Taxi Driver" level of significance without quite earning it. As Emma Roberts' shrewd and witty protagonist observes, these days "you don't have to achieve anything -- you just need to have ****ed-up **** happen to you." I could ask whether the cheerfully revived zombie corpse of a decade-old horror franchise that was at least half in jest is really the right venue for a lecture about authenticity. Except I don't want to know the answer."

I wanted to do a midnight show but I couldn't find anybody to go with me

While there are some movies I am perfectly fine going to see by myself this movie, and really scary movies in general, are not the type I want to see alone.

It was totally worth the 11 year wait, in my opinion. Excellent job, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson. Loved everything about it, from the opening sequence to the end.

Going tonight and can't wait.

I desperately wanted to go at midnight, but I made the "smart" decision and realized that a midnight movie, 3 hours of sleep afterwards, followed by spending the day teaching rambunctious 10 year olds the day before a vacation week was not wise.

So, tonight it is.

I, too, wanted to go at midnight last night but couldn't find anyone to go with me (I could barely find anyone to go with me tonight!). SCREAM somehow missed all of my friends and they're not that different in age. Sigh. 11:15pm tonight it is! I'm STOKED! I watched SCREAM 3 last night as a preface.

went last night at Midnight and I agree...very much worth the 11 year wait. LOVED it! Hilarious and surprising.

I can't even begin to describe how much I loved this film. After an 11 year wait and over a year of reading rumors and following the production and months of watching the trailer over and over and over again I'm so happy to say that SCREAM 4 more than lives up to the hype.

From that awesome opening sequence to the fantastic "alternate ending", to me, it just got everything right. 15 years ago the first SCREAM film revitalized horror and hopefully this new film (which I'm POSITIVE will be an enormous success) can have the same impact on the genre which seems in desperate need of that revitalization again.

I'm finding the mixed reviews interesting because if I remember correctly, the critics weren't too kind to the first film. A lot of critics are saying the film is too slow in places or drags between kills and I just want to slap them. It's that time in between kills that there is actual character development, the very thing that makes those kills even more effective! Also, the argument that it is too self reflective is the same argument that was made about the first film (if I remember correctly it initially received very poor reviews and of course now is regarded as a modern classic) and what makes SCREAM, well, SCREAM. Can you imagine a chapter in this story that decided to not talk about how the story on screen is reflective of horror films in the past and the "rules"?

In any case, I feel like besides the original this was the best installment and after what's going to be a huge opening weekend at the box office, I hope parts 5 & 6 can be greenlit.

*MINOR SPOILER QUESTION*

Kirby's house is Sidney's old house, right? There was no reference to it being the same but it was, right?

Actually Scream got pretty positive reviews when it came out. At least from the big critics like Ebert, Glieberman etc. And Scream 4 is at a 52 on metacritic right now which is pretty positive for horror these days. I'm more interested in what the fans have to say about this film anyway and that has been overwhelmingly positive. Can't wait to see it this weekend!

I loved it
*spoiler alert*
I liked the opening, the 2 fake ones from the stab movies, very funny and silly, however the actual 'real' kill in the opening i thought was weak.

I thought it was brilliant, some of the negative reviews left me scratching my head, it was a little slow at the begining but once it kicked in to gear it never stopped. And the ending was incredible.

Jordan, a few papers gave the original Scream a bad review when it very first opened, within a few days some of the major critics caught on to the film (it didnt have a huge release for its first week) and the positives started flying out. I know here in the UK when it first opened it was wall to wall raves. This time around it's mixed with Scream 4.

Right, I know the big critics like them enjoyed the first one but I really think overall it wasn't received too well because I distinctly remember a lot of reviews sounding exactly the same as the reviews for this one are.

But in any case, it IS a really great film and as someone said above, it's Craven's apology for MY SOUL TO TAKE.

My Soul to Take + not screening for critics had me really nervous it was going to suck. I'm really happy to see the reception it's getting!!

haha My Soul to Take was a mess bless him, but to me thats what Craven has done, for every hit he has a flop. However My Soul to Take was his first 'dull' flop.

Well hopefully this will reshape the type of horror that's being made. Again.

And Kristin Bell deserves a Best Cameo award.

I'm excited that I'm going in knowing virtually nothing. I've avoided reading anything...and I only saw the trailer once! I think I might have a Scream marathon tonight...

Kristen Bell's bit had me cracking up.

Did you notice how much stuff from the trailers and pictures were not in the actual movie....i was shocked
