Wow. I just opened this thread for the first time in a few days and I am scared sh*tless. Rentaholic, I just don't get it. I really don't. I'm just so tired of people citing books that other people wrote instead of saying "this is what I believe that god wants". This is why I hate organized religion.
well actually the cavepeople were the first telling stories around a camp fire. then came the Egyptians who preformed plays before the greeks. Mostly the Egyptian plays were about their gods, preformed at temples rather than in theatres
ok, well let's send a letter to all the theatre scholars, particularly the great Oscar Brockett, and tell them they got it all wrong!
Obviously our scholars would classify what you are saying as not being the origin of theatre, but as oral history ala Homer. Sure--that could be a great debate, but surely that debate has been had--and it was decided that theatre began with Thespis and the Greeks.
Regardless, my point is that homosexuals created theatre--and you better believe there were gay cavemen and women and gay Egyptians.
As European/American theatre is concerned it started in greece, but there were plays in egypt before that. If i had my brockett with me i could look up Ikhernofret, Egyptian Actor before Thepis, I learned this in a theatre history class. and i am sure i am correct. if i recollect chapter one mentions Egypt, before Greece. He already knows.
I have no clue who invented porn.

We may both be correct--Brockett does talk about the possibility of theatre occuring before the Greeks. But, the Greeks are given credit for creating theatre as we know it and have recorded--that I do know. And, the first actor is always referred to as Thespis.
Regardless, I said gays brought theatre into this world--and we can sure as hell take it out!

A new controversial statement:
I think all people who don't support welfare and do support welfare-to-work should be slapped and then transported back in time, where they will be born to a non-priveleged family who stuggles to get by, not with the silver spoon in their mouth. then let's see what their social politics are.
The part of the Republican Agenda that is darn right facist is their social agenda. (And their foreign policy)
Around 2500 BCE, Egyptian priests invent theater, with their annual ritual, the Abydos Passion Play, about the god Osiris. Evidence of this is found on the Ikhernofret hieroglphic stone dating from 1868 BCE. The stone is an account of one Ikhernofret, who was a participant. The stone lists 8 acts from the play. (from www.patenting-art.com/history/timlin-e.htm ) I'm right
It was the Egyptians and i've no clue if Ikernofret was gay or no but he was the first actor. but i assume that he could have been. so gays are the reason theatre is in the world, but you cant take it away it has spread throughout the world and is preformed daily. What would fill the void for all the anti-gays in the world who like theatre?
Ok--while I certainly believe in the idea that theatre existed before the Greeks--if the oldest professions are acting and prostitution, than we know theatre began with human existence, the Greeks are given credit by many as the first. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say the Greeks created Western Drama--not theatre as a whole, but just to support that I didn't dream this up:

NYBroadwayNY - I'm assuming that since you read the one post, that perhaps you continued reading through the thread. I said later on (the next morning, in fact) that I was going to go back and edit my previous statements, but only left them as evidence of my true emotions at the time. I then went on to apologize for any hurt that those statements may cause.
If, in fact, you did not read that post, I will re-iterate to you personally, here and now, that I really am sorry for the crudity and forcefulness of my post. While I appreciate other's attempts to 'whitewash' my rant, I happen to agree with you - it was out-of-line and not to be defended. I will do my best (as I generally do) to keep my emotions under control and have respectful and courteous dialogue.
That being said, I'm afraid that all I can offer is peace and happiness to someone who believes in something like the bible - for I do not accept it as the same thing you do. In response to your subtle statement about my thoughts coming 'as if I was there,' all I can say is that I depend on the learnings of accumulated human knowledge - as opposed to what you obviously accept as some kind of message from your god.
Again, please accept my apologies for any harm you may have felt I was causing you. It won't happen again.
