So my ipod finally died after one too many drops at the gym. I was looking into buying a new one but I heard some rumbling that there might be an even newer version coming out before year end. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, would this new model be astronomically more expensive than the current models?
I'd hate to spend the money to replace now only to be antiquated by Christmas...

There's supposed to be a new one coming out that wirelessly syncs up with the computer. If you wait, then when that one comes out, the price on the current ones will drop significantly. So, I would wait a few months and see what happens.
Well, why not buy a little stopgap item, like a shuffle or an old mini and wait and see?
Personally, I left Ipods altogether and I'm much more pleased with my Zen.

Later... They're just like computers, once you buy one, a better one comes out.
Of you can just have mine. It's a mini, maybe six months old.. but it's been sitting in my glove compartment for about four months now, dead as a doornail.
The iPod trend seems to be, introduce something new, close to the price of the current ones then discontinue the current ones all together. Apple runs a promo in the fall for students, last year it was buy a computer and get a free mini, right after the promo eneded the nanos and current iPods came out. I would personally wait.

Make sure your next gym has a padded floor. I dropped mine a few times and no damage,
They're always going to be coming out with something newer and better. They released the video IPOd about two weeks after I got my 60. Luckily, I didn't care about video anyway. I say, if there's one you want you might as well get it, or you'll be waiting forever.
Forget an IPod. Get a Zen.
what is that and does it work with itunes?
Click that link to see it. I'm not sure if it works with ITunes or not.

The Zen looks cool. If I didn't already have an iPod, I'd quite probably get that.
As for the original question, though, I agree with shameless...at least for the time being, there will always be a new one released within the next six months or so, so when you decide you want one, and it has the features you want, get it. It's guaranteed to be obsolete within a year, but so would the ones you waited for, and you got that much extra time to enjoy it.
