I agree, after 15yrs of living in Orlando you learn to take hurricanes seriously.
I still can't get over the year when we had 3 in 2months time.

In dc almost everything is closed till Tuesday

Yep, I don't have a battery radio, either. My doorman does though, so I figure we'll all gather in the lobby.

Except that means walking up and down many many many flights of stairs, so, maybe not.

I don't know how I spaced that one out. I was so organized and prepared with my list.

I didn't know how glad I'd be that I kept my mother's battery operated radio.

When asked what their greatest fear of the storm is, the mayor stated that it is people like DOLLYPOP who won't evacuate and cause potential harm or death to those who have to respond to save his ass. And he has the stupid audacity to post it here.

Gawker has pics of Battery Park with the surge at 3.6 feet. With 2 high tides and the major rain to come (plus high tide), it may get to 11 feet.

(Or so they say...)

Wow, that pic of AC is horrible.

I live in an area ten feet below sea level and we had recommended (not mandatory) evacuations for high tide this morning.

Yes, absolutely. As long as people take the necessary precautions then hopefully they will remain safe.

I went to my folks' house.

Down here all we're getting is the hurricane so we are lucky. You guys in the Northeast really need to do everything possible to stay safe with the convergence of the 3 fronts.

Please, no precaution is too much.

I live on Long Island, but, considering that I am pretty far in from water, I am fine ( so far) and still have power. I will admit that that picture of AC looks horrible.

I have been following the path of Sandy on the NY Times site, thanks to their online tracker of the storm. Ironically enough this is something that I did last year with Irene and never expected to have to do it so soon with another storm.

In any case, it shows the path of Sandy as well as a " where it is now" icon. But, one thing that interested me is that it looks as if Sandy is going to hit New Jersey (near Atlantic City, where it has hit) go into Philly and go into NYC towards the north not hitting NYC or Long Island. But, considering that this is two storms in one all bets are off I feel.

I'm in Connecticut but more inland. Friends of mine down near the shore have been evacuated. All we are getting is some rain by winds up to 60-80+ MPH. I'm sure we'll have power outages. I just hope their is no damage to the winds and trees.

Exactly one year ago today we lost power and were without it for 11 days. We were lucky.Be safe everyone!

I am on a hill in CT overlooking Long Island Sound. All around me has been mandatory evacuations. Turnpike is closing down at 1:00PM. Just had the first high tide but they are saying the next two will be the worst we have ever seen.

Thought I would post while I still have power.

The maps only show the path of the storm center. Although NYC is not getting the center, we'll get the storm.

Let there be no doubt: NYC is getting the storm. Don't be fooled by not being in "the center"....a hurricane's winds and force are far reaching...it's encompassing many states and affecting millions.

Don't be passive, don't be complacent. Just be PREPARED.

I knew it was a long shot to go, but I was supposed to go feed and take care of the cats at the shelter I volunteer at today. All the roads are going to be shut down at 2pm today, so I definitely am not going out now. I just hope someone got to them early today so they at least got a meal in. The shelter is right in with the police station and road department, but I still worry about the animals.

In south NJ...still have power....seeing pictures from the Shore. Ocean City NJ the ocean met the bay and there is NO way off the island, people that didn't evacuate told to hunker down. AC part of the boardwalk is gone and underwater. Wildwood under water..Avalon, Stone Harbor, Cape May,Sea Isle City and LBI all under water. If you are on facebook the good pages to follow is Jersey Shore Hurricane News and Severe NJ Weather....the Jersey Shore is going to be very altered after this...put it this way before the storm of 62 my grandparents house was 4 blocks from the ocean, after the storm they had beach front property...this storm is suppose to be worse then the 62 storm...be safe everyone
