Feel free to share whatever...where you'll be, travel plans, menu, etc. Let me begin by wishing everyone a happy holiday, and now my details:
This may be the best Thanksgiving ever. Why? It's just the five of us (me, wife, and three daughters). We're not going anywhere, and no one's coming to us. Our menu:
Spiral sliced ham (the girls don't like turkey)
Cranberry orange walnut relish
Manchego cheese mashed potatoes
Stuffing made with pumpkin muffins
Green bean casserole
Creamed onions
Corn pudding
Pumpkin cheesecake
Chocolate mint brownies

My brother works as a restaurant manager, meaning that he works on Thanksgiving. So, on Thanksgiving, I'll go down to my parents' house and we'll join my aunt and uncle for dinner at my brother's restaurant. Then, on Friday, when my brother is off, we all convene at my parents' for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at home. The menu is usually something like this:
Roast turkey
Homemade stuffing
Homemade cranberry relish
Baked potatoes (we're not really fans of mashed)
Green bean casserole (my personal favorite)
Pearl onions
Homemade biscuits
Pumpkin cheesecake
Pecan pie

I always go to my cousin's house in Rockaway, NJ. We have the traditional dishes, nothing out of the ordinary. My favorite is always plain old stuffing.
I've recently found that I hate chicken, but I'm hoping that doesn't carry over to turkey!

Well since my INSANE sister in law is fighting with her parents in Michigan and didn't decide until like 4 days ago whether they were going to be here or not the whole stupid day has been up in the air.
So we decided we will all just go to my mother-in-law's country club. They do all the usual stuff....turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, veggies, bread, pumpkin pie. Plus the kids cans still order off the kids' menu. Which is good because out of all of those things I listed the only one my son would eat is the bread. He's very picky.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 2:10pmWe always go to my grandmother's house for Thanksgiving, but this year she decided not to cook. My mom is not one to cook big dinners so my dad said that he will probably just pick up some pizza or something for us to eat. Oh joy!

Pizza? Oh well, I could eat pizza every day anyway....LOL
Jazzy, I seem to remember Brian talking about those mashed potatoes last year.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 2:30pmThe mashed potatoes are incredible, and incredibly easy. It's a Rachel Ray recipe, so it's easily googled.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 3:52pmWe're having a real small gathering of family, too. And my family in California is doing the same. It's funny that I'm hearing this from so many people this year.

Auditioning for My Fair Lady. We don't really do Thanksgiving, but it's probably the nicest holiday I've ever heard of. Just get together with your loved ones, eat delicious food, and be grateful. What's not to like? :3

I won't be doing any cooking this year which is a bummer because I LOVE to cook Thanksgiving food. But, I will be spending Thanksgiving at my Uncle's with Him, my Aunt, cousins, and Grandparents.
It the first time I remember spending Thanksgiving with that much family. I grew up on the other side of the country from where my parents grew up, and with all the kids flying home for just a few days wasn't economical. Thanksgiving was usually with just my family, and while that family has grown over the years, I'm thankful to be closer to other relatives this year.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 6:29pmI am looking forward to it Stockard. I usually spend holidays alone. Haven't done Thanksgiving with others for about 4 years or so. My friend just moved into a new place and he said it is "different" as far as the way he "decorated". All I know is that there are mannequins involved. Knowing him, it will be fun.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 6:34pmBig group over at my family's house this year, except this year we're having people who keep kosher. Do you have any idea how much is eliminated when you can't have pork or dairy (obviously the turkey counts as meat)? No butter in the mashed potatoes, no sausage in the stuffing, no pumpkin pie, no cheese anywhere. Luckily we're having a couple dishes with milk in them that they just won't eat - I just baked a marbled pumpkin cheesecake today. MMMMMM

Uncageg, that does sound wonderful!
I too, love pizza......but on Thanksgiving - UGH!
I will definitely google those potatoes - sound great!
I will be in Canyon Lake, Texas with my hub, kids, SIL, FIL and the daughter is bringing her BF. Can't wait........traditional Turkey dinner with all the fixings (one of my favorite meals of all time). I'll be making my Mother's (RIP) stuffing recipe, which is to die for. Hubby will be making his world class Scalloped Potatoes (but, I just might have to make that mashed potato recipe also).
Hope everyone has a warm, cozy Thanksgiving Day!

Posted: 11/22/09 at 7:42pmWe (meaning me, my mom, my 2 brothers, and sister) were planning on driving down to Maryland for Thanksgiving at my dad's sister's house. But two weeks ago my mom fell and tore her hamstring. You should see the bruises on her leg. She doesn't want to sit in a car for six hours (three down and three back) and there's never enough seating so she won't have a place to sit. So she decided not to go but left us the option on whether to go or not. My brothers are going and my sister and I are staying with my mom. I doubt we'll have any grand feast. I only boil water and my mom doesn't have the energy to cook.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 8:42pmBoth my family and my partner's family are scattered this year. So we'll be going up to New Hampshire to his parent's house. They're both about 250 years old and are the worst cooks in the world. But it'll be just the four of us and should be a nice day. I'm making a maple cheesecake with cranberry~maple compote topping and a bunch of teeny tiny caramel apple pies made in mini muffin tins. Each one has a little cube of white cheddar cheese inside it. Does anyone eat warm apple pie with a slice of cheddar melted over it? Or is that just my family?
