This "Coach" fellow has to go.
I was very happy that Carolina made a quick exit.
Also, in a strange way, I really like the bus driver. I can't explain it.

She's totally batsh+t crazy, but she truly didn't deserve to go first and I thought that was kind of nice that her teammates thought so, too. All this talk of "first impressions" makes me wonder if there was an edict to make a kinder, gentler Survivor or something.
Sick girl annoyed me at first, but even she seemed to get over herself. I'm sure the douchebags will emerge soon, but no one was truly annoying.

That Steven Seagal guy is annoying. I would vote him out based on his hair-do.
Sandy has those crazy eyes. She should be interesting.
..and how do you live 50 some odd years and not know what "10 paces" means? I LOVE she was supposed to fine the lone palm tree.. and there was only one. She was concerned with the paces, though. lol!

Yeah, her not understanding what ten paces was a bit disturbing, but I'm still pleased she wasn't the first to go. Poor little kooky thing.
Oh yeah, I forgot about "Coach." What a tool.

How could that blonde be shocked to be (fake) kicked out? It's a game...if you're sick, hide it! I get why she started making shelter (sort of) but did she do ANY looking for the idol? I dont understand why each couldnt do both.
Too early to like or dislike anyone yet, though Coraline, Caraleen, Kakapoop, or whatever her name was will not be missed by me.
I love it when every vote has a different spelling for the cast off's name.

I loved how the camera zoomed in on the one BIG palm tree while she was trying to figure out paces. LOL! I hope she sticks around a while, because she's an interesting character.

Just finished watching last night's episode. Some thoughts:
Did I just was a Season 18 premiere or "The Crazy Hour with Sandy"? My goodness, all cameras were on her! Them thars a producer's favorite, yessum. Not only is she losing her marbles, but that saggy gurlfriend got dirty! Did you see her arms and fingernails already? Loved how Jeff flat-out asked: "You're a little crazy, aren't you?"
Carolina wasn't a surprise exit, though she did seem like a very sweet girl. Didn't really get a chance to "dislike" her. And my goodness, I hope America enjoyed seeing her impressive breasts while they could!
Tyson is suiting-up (or rather, stripping-down?) to be my favorite, alongside Spencer and Taj. Taj is awesome. And Candice. I like her too.
Coach can leave. Thanks.
Joe looks SO familiar to me. Sort of a cross between Hugh Panaro and some gay porn star(?). I dunno, I swear I've seen his face somewhere on common media.
Brendan might be an under the radar player (he helped Erinn navigate the rod in the puzzle).
And Oh-My-Gawd... 120-degrees!!! I certainly hope they're maintaining hydration behind-the-scenes!
YAY NEW SEASON!

Taj has to at least last long enough for me to make it through singing this entire album during the lulls in the action. I think I spent more time singing 'Weak' than evaluating which players I liked or disliked.

Didn't Jeff promise this would be the "best season ever"? I know he's said that so many times that it's lost all meaning, but it seems like a particularly gross exaggeration this time, as I'm about to jump ship on this season.
First of all, the cast is plain unwatchable. Coach is not an entertaining villain, just deluded to the point of bordering on mentally ill. Tyson is repulsive inside and out, though I did think it was appropriate that the Mormon gave the line about "finding it fun to destroy other people's dreams." The rest are just rehashes of what we've already seen before or Vecepia-level dull.
(the ones who have left weren't any better, and that includes "thank god I'm not a nelly or else mom wouldn't let me leave the house" Spencer, who is obviously dating Todd because that was the only way he'd ever have any chance of getting his hands on any prize money)
The challenges are almost all about running to get puzzle pieces and putting them together. Watching episodes of Concentration with the mute button pressed would be more exciting.
And the twist? Please. This "cross-tribe" alliance they are pushing as some sort of groundbreaking thing was so manipulated by the production -- the poorly hidden idols and pointless bringing of an extra person to exile -- that they might as well have had the first note at exile say: "You are now in an alliance with the person standing next to you. Pick a friend to bring along. Your immunity idols will be waiting for you in the relaxation hut next to your pina coladas."
Of course, the fact that this thread has gone almost a month without being bumped probably says a lot more than I ever could!

Calvin, I agree with everythig you said. It is a really slow season. I'm still watching, but I really don't care what happens..
Last year started out pretty bad, but then became of of my favorite seasons. I hope that happens again, but I doubt it.

Yeah, so far this is not stellar. For me, Taj has been the most interesting person to watch, but that's not saying a lot.
the ones who have left weren't any better, and that includes "thank god I'm not a nelly or else mom wouldn't let me leave the house" Spencer, who is obviously dating Todd because that was the only way he'd ever have any chance of getting his hands on any prize money
Was that an interview or something? I really didn't get any negative vibes from Spencer. Maybe I missed something. He seemed like a nice kid and I was sad to see him go.
It's pretty obvious that Tyson is there for attention. All the OTT garbage that spills out of his mouth is nothing more than amalgam of Survivor Bad Boys who are hoping for a career of personal appearances after they lose the show. He's obviously trying to be the next Grandma killer. "Look at me! I'm naked!" Yeah, that never stops being hilarious. Especially when you couple it with stereotyping the native with a loincloth and toss in an "Ooga Booga!". Nice.
Coach reminds me of one of those guys from a tantric sex documentary. I guess it's the Fabio hair and detachment from reality. At least he's not entirely repulsive to look at like most tantric sex stars, but I do like the fact that everybody is starting to call out his nonsense.
But yeah, I can't seem to find anyone I really want to root for. I like the Taj/Stephen/Brendan/Sierra group, but there's just not a lot going on there. I understand why they did the double-Exile thing since we've had the Exile Island in play for several seasons now. Obviously, they were trying to push an alliance to happen, but it also depends on who gets sent out there. If different people were sent out each time, it would have been sort of funny if all of them had tried the secret alliance thing, but whatever.
I don't mind the puzzle challenges. I find them a lot more interesting than watching people hold weight on their shoulders. Snore. The endurance challenges are only fun after the merge when deals often arise, especially when immunity is at stake. I love watching the confident people jump out for a cookie because they know they're safe. There's more tension. At this point, there's absolutely no reason for the audience to be interested in watching two teams stand there until they drop.
Every new season usually starts off pretty slow and picks up around the merge. I'm hoping things will heat up and get interesting. I think they should have done another season where they bring two people back from the previous season ala Stephenie and Bobby Jon. I would have loved to see Sugar deal with this bunch. Hell, bring back Stephenie and Bobby Jon.

Yes, that was in a pre-show interview. I've linked below. I'll chalk it up to him still being a confused, dumb kid. (eta -- he really is dating Todd from China, too, who was a heckuva lot more nelly than Charlie, so...)
And eesh, I forgot about the borderline racist "ooga booga" moment.
Spencer thinks he's 'straight-acting'

Posted: 3/13/09 at 11:05amOk, I see where you're coming from now. He's 19, he's from Lakeland Florida, and his mother sounds like a real piece of work. And he's dating Todd. His POV is not a huge surprise. I mean, we were all sort of embarrassed for Charlie last season, but not because he wore his gayness on his sleeve, but for his loopy crush-gushing on Marcus. It sounds like Spencer was really focusing hard on how he would be portrayed on television and he displays the typical immature habits of a gay teen, which he is. I'm not saying I approve, but I would be disappointed if he continued on the same track in years to come. Todd is definitely more nelly and more confident in himself, so I hope he teaches Spencer a thing or two. Nonsexually, I mean.

I wonder if momma lets him leave the house when Todd is along! Though I guess I should cut her a break, too...as the kid obviously couldn't have come out that long ago, and I know it took my mom a few years to get to where she is today.
Anyway, I think this show also is suffering because TAR seems so revitalized this time and is having, to me, the best season it's had in quite a while. Which makes this show seem all the more tired.

Posted: 3/13/09 at 2:43pmRegardless the quality of this season, I find even the most boring moments of Survivor infinitely more interesting than American Idol. I still can't figure out the massive obsession over that show other than the obvious tween girls crying over the heartthrob or cheering for the new Hannah Montana. I think there are some really talented people on there, but I just find the process so monotonous and tedious. I need some movement and some action. I need disco and lyrical modern dancing. I need tribal councils with immunity idol hijinks. I need cheese rolling down hilly Swiss countryside. I need models catfighting over stolen granola bars. I need Janelle and the Golden Power of Veto. I need Carla Hootie-Hoo-ing. Listening to the same people walk back and forth singing over and over again while the judges whack off listening to themselves talk interspersed with the same stories repeated again and again is just getting irritating. I promised I would give it a fair shot, but MY GOD, I have never worked so hard to pay attention to a reality show.

Yeah, this season has definitely been a disappointment. I have yet to find a player that I really like, and yet to find one that I hate (Coach is a jerk, but he's not one of those players that I love to hate)
After every episode so far this season, I've found myself thinking "that was pretty boring". I hope it picks up. Recently, in Entertainment Weekly, Probst said that this season has a record number of blindsides and the most exciting Survivor auction ever. But I'm beginning to doubt whether this group of people is even capable of organizing a blindside.
And Calvin was right about the immunity idols being poorly hidden. In the tree mail? Seriously?
#46re: Survivor: Tocantins - Official Discussion Thread

HAHAHA!! I know, right? Who knows? We all whined at the beginning of last season and then suddenly ended up on the edge of our seats. And the episode with the auction was one of the all-time best episodes in Survivor history. So, it could happen, I guess.
And Calvin was right about the immunity idols being poorly hidden. In the tree mail? Seriously?
The funny thing is...nobody else found it there, so...I guess it was hidden well enough? I'm not being snarky because I totally agree as the idols weren't buried six feet under and all that, but...I mean...they still didn't find the idols until the producers practically had to stand there, take it out and hand it to them. And explain what it was. It's really kind of funny.

More hidden immunity idol hijinks! Hooray!
Honestly, all I can say about last night is, "Phew!" I did not want to see Taj go home. And is it just me or is JT becoming somewhat endearing? He's pretty much clueless when it comes to strategy, but in a cute sort of way. And why was Stephen even considering voting out Taj??? Sure, he would end up with the idol, but she is their link to Brendan and Sierra who would be none too pleased to see one of the chief members of the secret alliance suddenly gone. And with their dwindling numbers going into the merge, Stephen shouldn't have even toyed with the idea. I just wanted to throttle him for confusing what should have been a very simple decision.
I only wish we could get a special episode at the end of the season where we get to watch Coach's reaction to viewing the episodes for the first time. I would buy that on DVD. Did anyone else realize he was fired from his coaching job because he told his employers the reason for his absence was for extensive cancer tests? The scumbag is now pursuing an acting/TV career in Hollywood hoping to find a network to host "The Coach Wade Show". He also hopes to be in the next Survivor All Stars.
An example of the douchiness formerly known as "Coach":
Ben also told me that the "team is in shambles right now" because he left them without his presence. He also said, "I am phenomenal at manipulating people....I manipulate my assistant coaches. My highest-paid assistant coach right now is getting $5,000 a year. I have a staff of six. It's the biggest coaching staff in the NCAA. Nobody has six coaches. I have these girls come and pay $20,000 a year to come and play for my school and not give them a dime of scholarship, there's others that I do. I'm awesome at manipulating."
The Definition of Douchebag
