I'm on a very rigid diet, not Weight Watchers at this point, but I'm just popping in to say that I've lost 15 pounds in the last three weeks (and that includes some muscle-building). Woo hoo!
Once I get off this crash diet in a few more weeks, I think I'm going to shift to Weight Watchers so I can remain in the lower end of my ideal weight range.

Exercise more and eat less.
It always works. ..."
I knew that sounded familiar.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 11:56pmKiss, I need about 10 more. I'm pushing for 15 more. So that means I'll drop about 8. It's hell to be old(er) and try to lose lbs.

Posted: 6/27/06 at 11:58pmAnd it's not necessarily true, either. I'm eating MORE on my diet than I was before, and I'm still losing weight. Eating better is superior to eating less.

Tsk, tsk for crash dieting, Calvin! But are you doing it safely (I'm sure you are!)?
10-15 is certainly a reasonable amount to lose, vbplayer. And you'll definitely get there!

losing weight, increasing muscle means increasing metabolism, which increases appetite...
of course, much depends on what the MORE one is eating too... More fruits, veggies, protein, and the like is certain a good thing!

"Crash dieting" was probably not the best term.
It's actually very similar to Weight Watchers -- just every meal and snack is pre-planned. Lots of fruits, whole grains and veggies, no sodas and no red meat. It's a lot of food, though, more than 2,000 calories each day, in fact. I usually can't even eat it all. But I'm never hungry or out of energy.

"Eat less, move more"
This thread is NOT for these kinds of useless, mumbo-jumbo, bumper stickerisms. It is NOT that simple:
There are correct ways and incorrect ways to eat less and move more. And as Calvin said, he actually eats more because many times, the problem IS not eating enough--particularly people who skip breakfast. And some people move too much and hurt their bodies.
I started this thread to have a place for people who need more than "simpleisms" that in my experience only create insanity. People like me want and need structure. I created this thread in retaliation to other threads where people were trying to discuss DETAILS and SPECIFIC problems with trying to lose weight and get fit amongst people who had the audacity to proclaim such bitchy, holier than thou statements as "it's really simple--you just eat less and move more". To those people I say a very sincere and firm, "**** you".

Posted: 6/28/06 at 8:26amCan someone explain to me why anyone would do the Flex Points sytem on Weight-Watchers, rather than the Core Plan? I started the Core Plan, 8 weeks ago, and have yet to have someone adequately explain why everyone isn't on Core? Almost no one does it. Besides eating the healthiest I ever have in my life, and never, ever feeling hungry, I've also lost 21 pounds, so far.

John Boy, I'm considering the move to core but most people I know on core are vegetarian. Browsing the Core plan, I see it really is most beneficial to a person who is vegetarian.
Frankly, I like the convenience of the points plan because I like being able to pick up things I can microwave (sue me; it's true). My workplace is VERY inconvenient to finding outside food so I have to bring it in. Those microwavable entrees are my saving grace so that I don't spend hours every night preparing both dinner for the evening and lunch for the next day.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 9:53amI don't do core because I like the flexibility of being able to eat what I want within my points. I found the Core plan too restrictive.

Posted: 6/28/06 at 10:58amI'm not a vegetarian, I eat meat at every dinner meal; and, you still get 35 points. But, I prepare all my meals, each day. I do no convenience foods, so I can see where that could be a problem. Oh well, for my situation, it's wonderful. I still hate brown rice, though; but I've come to appreciate whole wheat pasta. Cook well, drain, stir-in a can of Progresso Lentil Soup and mix with fat-free rigotta cheese. Delicious! Have you tried to lemonade pie, yet? Except forget the pie crust, and just make it as a pudding. For me, it's just about Core, for Flexer's, it's 3 points a serving. Probably 2, without the pie crust.

ooh, that sounds nice.
Yeah, I keep praying for the day I can cook a little mroe but it's mostly restricted to weekends.
I have found those -uh, I've blanked on the name now. Smart something - vegetarian labels have full meals for VERY low points.
I got a veggie chicken teriyaki with brown rice and edamame in a bag and it's 5 points for the whole thing.
Also, the veggie meat slices are the best, paired with fat free cheese and all this new light bread that is actually quite good (and LOADS better than the low carb bread).

Or you could make lots of food and store it in the freezer too, bway...
That's great progress, Patronus!
The beauty of such weight loss is that there's more than one plan available. For those who are doing well on WW, great! For those who are doing well on Core, great. But if either one isn't currently working, perhaps trying the other as an alternative isn't a bad idea...

Sue, you just don't get it. And, I am not going to argue with you anymore about this. What's ironic is that if you are who people in this thread think you are, you have no business dispensing advice on weight loss. Sorry to be harsh, but if you are that person, isn't it a bit ironic? Don't you think?
I could be wrong, but the Core program sounds very similar to the concepts of South Beach--that you can eat as much of "these set foods" that you like. If that is the case, than it's not what I needed and the reason I was not able to live on South Beach:
I needed structure of how much food to eat a day and a week.
I needed the ability to factor in foods not on a list--whenever I was in a situation where I had (or wanted) to eat foods not on the list, I felt like I was going off the program. Now, everything on the planet is part of the program--it's just a matter of budgeting it in and controling portions of high point foods.

let me make clear that i do not think that "sue" is anyone else mentioned in this thread - i just found the connection funny since the "eat less, exercise more" plan hardly seems revolutionary enough to stir up a conspiracy theory.

I saved weekly points for Sunday and worked out to add some exercise points and got through Gay Pride food and fun in the zone. So, I am just keeping myself within my daily points + exercise points earned for Monday, Tuesday, and today. It's just going back to hardcore discipline about the "budget".
I've also stopped eating past midnite, started adding other workouts into my week for variety, and have lowered my Diet Coke levels.
I bet I see results. :)
