Motion capture is a pretty polarizing subject of whether it is legitimate animation or not based on the technique involved with atypical hand-drawn or even computer animation.
Rango actually got a lot of attention for how interactive the creative process was for the actors. They weren't wired for motion capture but scenes that were being animated were acted out on a stage by the voice actors.

I just thought it had the best chances out of all animated films this year. The fact it didn't get a nomination is a bit strange, being that it got nominations in categories that the nominated animated films didn't get and great reviews as well.

Most nominations in a given race? No, it wouldn't be a record.
Walt Disney won four in 1953.
Also... Pitt only has 2?

Walt Disney holds the record for most individual nominations in a single year (4). All were for different films (also a record). He won all four awards, too.
Best Documentary Feature (The Living Desert)
Best Documentary Short (The Alaskan Eskimo)
Best Animated Short (Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom)
Best Short Subject (Bear Country)
The year was 1953.

When "Tree of Life" was read out, they said "nominees to be announced" or "determined" or something like that. Or has there been an official decision since then? I haven't kept up on any updates today. At any rate, though he was a producer on the movie, when the nominees were read out, he wasn't "officially" nominated for ToL, not this morning.

Sucks that Von Trier pretty much crapped all over any chance at nominations for Melancholia. I think Dunst really ended up the biggest victim of his behavior, but I thought it might at least turn up under Cinematography. It's the one film of 2011 I haven't been able to get out of my mind.
Where is Roscoe? I sort of miss him calling all the films tripe and that none of the nominees deserve anything or some variation to that effect.
And for some reason, this Harry Potter thing is still stuck in my craw. It's not that I'm an obsessive fan or that I think it deserves to win Best Picture, but I'm seriously flummoxed as to why most of the various awards this season didn't nominate it for Best Picture. It's one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood history. It was the best-reviewed film of the franchise. It was one of the best-reviewed films of the year. And the Academy couldn't even fill out the category with it? What happened?

Tin Tin won a Golden Globe for Best Animated feature so I am mystified it was left off the list.
It was the most fun I have had at the movies in quite awhile It was flat our fun from start to finish. When it makes it to DVD, I intend to get a copy.

I guarantee you they didn't even pop the screener into the DVD player, let alone attend a screening of it.

I'm pleased overall.
Melissa McCarthy is surely delighted, having already won an Emmy for the same role. (You know it's true.)
Yay for Woody, Glenn Close and Janet McTeer, Max von Sydow.
Boo for no Ryan Gosling, Evan Rachel Wood, TinTin, Lay Your Head Down, Kirsten Dunst, The Skin I Live In.

Chico and Rita is a delight besty. You will love it.
That being said I think that Rango is going to win.
And count as one the people who are surprised that Tin-Tin wasn't nominated.

Just watched Moneyball (finally).
REALLY impressed with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. I haven't seen The Descendants, but I would assume Pitt is a definite contender for Best Actor. I consider it an award-worthy performance. And Hill gave a subtle but powerful performance as well. I also loved some of the supporting players: Robin Wright, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and I didn't even recognize Tammy Blanchard as Hatteberg's wife. Good for her for being in a Best Pic-nominated film that's well worth the time to check out.
I thought the whole thing was good from start to finish. Excellent story, well told. And I'm not a big sports fan, by any stretch of the imagination. It worked and pulled me in anyway.

You should really watch it. I thought it would be a snooze fest and I found it very moving and Clooney plays a surprisingly good push over.

I don't even watch her show and I know what you've written is nonsense.
#99The OFFICIAL 2012 Oscar nominations thread...
Posted: 1/24/12 at 8:27pmI may have been exaggerating, but it's not complete nonsense...she may have fully deserved the Emmy for Mike and Molly, but I would say it's not unlikely that Bridesmaids put her to the forefront of people's minds.
