I'm glad, Adamaddict. And I hope you have a chance to check out my post about ordering the tapes. It might be on the previous page.
I wasn't at that gig and didn't post anything at the time, but this whole thing brings up a thought I've had about Adam and his fans. The music he grew up loving was what I think of as guys' music. That's an oversimplification, and I'm sure those metal bands had their share of female fans, but it was music that guys (like him) really liked.
Now his career and persona have led him to have a fan base of girls. I'm sure there are other fans (me for one), but the biggest or at least most noticeable group seems to be the young girls. At the same time his music isn't typical teen idol music at all - it's music that really could appeal to a pretty wide spectrum of people, including young guys and adults. Lyrically it really is more adult than anything else. So there's an interesting disparity there, and I wonder if it frustrates him if it seems that his fans just want to see him and don't care that much about the music.
(And I know you said that this wasn't the case with you, Adamaddict, and I believe you, but the screaming might make him *feel* differently.)
ETA: I mean of course that I'm glad you feel better, Adamaddict - there was a whole lot of posting done while I was writing this one.

There was a discussion today that this reminded me of, in general about the RENT alumni and cast members who have branched out a bit and tried to have musical careers outside of theatre, and how their most noticable fans are the teenage girls... clearly big RENT fans.
It's unfortunate to think that if Adam hadn't gotten RENT, maybe his music wouldn't be out there at all, and obviously the nature of the fan base comes from how this all came about. I guess we can hope that eventually the spectrum does widen as his stuff gets out there, but I'm losing faith in the mainstream music industry, and unofortunately mainstream is all that matters. Nothing about it is pure anymore... it's all about superficiality. It's also kind of a roadblock that because of this industry from which his career sprang, he's not going to get the full, widespread recognition that he should be getting. It's too closed of a community. I'll spare injection of conflicting selfish comments, because that's a story in and of itself.
As for the fans themselves... after watching a lot of this go on, and admittedly being a part of it, I think he's seeing a transition. Of course, at first, people would literally just go and see this guy because they love him so much after seeing him in a musical. But it's hard, I think, to go and see him perform like this and NOT to really develop an appreciation for Adam the musician. Maybe he's just good at hiding frustration, but I think he's finally beginning to see that, and it's what he really wants.
Appologies for major incoherence; I'm trying desperately to make my post about this play semi-coherent, and it's really hard.
You're doing fine - I'm sorry you're not feeling good. Try to go to bed soon (says mom).
Was this discussion about Rent alumni on the boards here or somewhere else? Sounds interesting.
The music industry seems to be in a crisis right now. The big companies don't know how to find and market worthy new talent anymore (or old talent, for that matter), and the little independents don't have enough resources or clout to do much. Sh-K-Boom has certainly been trying - there was an ad for Civilian at All That Chat for a while, and I also saw one on another site somewhere. Don't remember seeing one here, but why should they with Emcee around?
My stomach is in an enormous knot. I probably won't sleep very much.
And yes. I'm a living ad! Talkin' Broadway wrote a pretty decent review of the album, didn't they?
The RENT discussion was on the thread about Jeremy Kushnier... main board.
I wonder if it frustrates him if it seems that his fans just want to see him and don't care that much about the music.
I suppose it can create a sense of frustration for anyone who is in a situation like that, where you're not sure if people appreciate you for the reasons you *want* to be appreciated. When you hear the relentless screaming, you must wonder at times if the kids are missing the point. After all, how many of those hysterical 'I want a piece of Ringo's shirt' Beatles fans really understood the brilliance of what they did? But they're part of the whole package -- when you start getting attention, you can't really pick and choose what kind of attention you're going to get.
I'm sorry you're feeling terrible, Emcee. Feel better soon!

living ad....haha
The Beatles are a very good example, amasis. I doubt if many of their original fans had any idea how good their music was, and of course you're right about not being able to pick and choose one's fans. We're fortunate Adam has enough fans to enable him to make a couple of CD's.
Feel better, Emcee. I'm off - good night!
Thanks, amasis. So, can I have a piece of Adam's t-shirt?
On a serious note, I try to do my part, and tell him, from the bottom of my heart, how truly incredible I think that CD is. Who knows how much he believes and how much he brushes off as "yeah, they just think I'm hot," but.... oh, I don't know what I'm trying to say.
Goodnight, Chloe! And thanks.
Adamaddict, I'm serious. Look at my signature! And to boot, I bought one of those cute Civilian pins. I have it on my bag that I take to classes.
awwww... he shouldn't sell himself short. he's hot AND makes great music.

" Thanks, amasis. So, can I have a piece of Adam's t-shirt?"
*snort*
Well, unfortunately it's not for me to say, Emcee. But when you tackle him in March, you can try to get a piece then.
Some pointers: Make sure the subject is immobile; insert a piece of the subject's shirt between your incisors, and rapidly turn your head from side to side to create sufficient ripping force. Good luck!
And no, I never tried that with any of the Beatles. Honest.

*raises eyebrow*
Will this take place before or after the toy plane? And the pole? And the camcorder?
Okay, grr. I need to at least TRY to sleep, becuase I skipped a class today, and I need to go to it tomorrow. *cries*
I have a suspicion that all cooperation would cease the minute you attempt gnawing his shirt off. For one thing, you'd be thrown off the set.
So you might want to save it for last.
Good Night, Emcee!

I decided that I want it to happen on this thread, because it was how I found BWW in the first place (not to be cheesy or anything like that...).
