NOOOOOOOO, not you too amasis!!!
So sorry, amasis. How are you feeling?
I'm changing the thread title, as it's becoming too prophetic.

My opinion on the Emcee:
Cabaret is a metaphor, and the Emcee represents (I think) humanity as a whole. He's beaten and bruised on the outside the way so many of us are inside and is a generally ambiguous character- bisexual, no particular nationality, not even a named. He ushers us into the cabaret- into life- and seduces the audience. In guiding them through the show, he gives us all a glimpse of all kinds of life- the merchants, young dreamers, old embittered women- and becomes a small part of everything. Really, he's all of us and yet in his mysteriousness, is someone we can never truly know. In the end, after having taken us in, he slaps the audience back in the face, they see him dying. It's our fault, the Holocaust, everyone played a small role in letting it happen- laughing at the Gorilla during 'If You Could See Her', ect.
That's why Cabaret is so powerful, I think. You're a part of it, not just a witness and then in the end it feels like it's YOU who caused it all.
Sorry, long random post.
Well done.

Emcee, you're contagious online! Everyone run!
Ellie, I have not abandoned you. *grabs Ellie's wrist as she runs out*
How weird is that Chloe?...first a few people in the U.S. and now it's hitting Indonesia?! the whole world really is sick!
No, don't run away!!
'tis the season, Chrissy.
::refuses to give into "the whole world is sick" idea::
Don't run away from Emcee! She's sick and needs company!
That's a very good analysis, Nia, though I took the Emcee to represent the hedonistic, unthinking part of mankind that then gets caught up in something they thought they could control, and gets crushed by it.
*pouts*
C'mon guys, I need lovin'.
Ahh! Get away from me Emcee! ...BACK! BACK I SAY! *hides*
Just kiddin' Feel better already!

I try, Chloe. The Emcee is sort of the bridge between the audience and the show- makes it real.

I think that's why Cabaret is so powerful too, Nia. The Emcee's not just the emcee for the KitKat, but for the whole world at that time...now let go of my wrist!!
Yes. Fourth wall = shattered.
Interesting thoughts on Cabaret. ...
I'm just going to sit here and be quiet.

Any other Cabaret thoughts? amasis, you can be quiet but you have to type while doing it.
*continues death grip on Ellie*
I do wish I had seen the show, as I'm sure actually experiencing would be quite different from watching a *cough*.
Thanks, emcee. You too!! Maybe we can start comparing our temperatures on this thread... ;-P

How do you guys feel about the movie version of Cabaret?
Sorry if you've talked about this already, which I'm sure you probably have...
ok! I have 100.2.
And actually, I suck. I haven't ever seen the movie, Ellie.

amasis, that's... so profound. I'm moved, I can't even type. It's so true.
Ellie, I hated it- thought the movie missed the point of the show. Liza's take on Sally was HORRIBLE, she was just a brat. And the green nailpolish? Why did they never talk about it?
Hdksla; dsjopdm, amasis!
I haven't seen the movie for a while, but I think of it as a viable entity in its own right that's really different from the stage version.
Does the green really mean anything, nia? I thought it was just a manifestation of her eccentricity... a little quirk.
