I should sleep soon... but I'm hungry. And I'm writing an LJ entry.

I'm writing to Raul, lol.
Ok, broadwaybox is NOT working for me, and its making me angry
Awww... Your pic is so cute, Elphie. You all look so happy in it. :)
Once again, glad to hear that everybody had fun tonight and that the cast was in good spirits!
Reading all of your chat tonight about the show has inspired me to go find some Company clips on that evil, awful site... lol. (Speaking of, hopefully someone recorded bits of tonight, it sounds like one of those events that should be saved for posterity.)
What an emotional high to be able to be in the theatre for tonight's performance! Thanks for all the eyewitness accounts!
Why oh why can't the producers make and sell DVD's of a live performance, like they did with Hugh Jackman's West End Oklahoma?? I live in the midwest, and I was lucky enough to see Company twice, but for many people, the closest they get is seeing what's on the Tony broadcast (not counting what's on "that site", of course). They do it for the musical extravaganzas that tour Europe. They do it for movies. People still attend in person. I would gladly pay quite a bit for a DVD. It would surely generate interest in future productions, touring productions and would be a way to introduce new generations or even some normal adults to live theater. If you're not a student and not living near NYC, there are more and more barriers to seeing Broadway theater, esp. hotel costs and the screwing around required to take an airplane nowadays. No wonder people just go to "safe" shows like the jukebox ones. There are probably lots of union rules to deal with, but the theater bean counters are being so short sighted and spiteful on this.
It's too bad that the producers don't record final shows, yeah, but with any luck, someone else will.
It looks like I'm going to spend 12 hours on a bus each way to and from New York to see the final show. It's kind of insane and I'm really worried about timing and layovers, but I'm also really excited, so I hope it works out.

Yay! That's awesome! I will definitely be there. I'm hoping someone recorded last night's performance, even though its, well, illegal lol.
I know, fishdancer - it does suck when shows like this close early. For people in your boat the saving grace is usually a tour, which looks like it wont happen unfortunately, though you never know.
I could not fall asleep last night for the life of me, its going to be an interesting day at work...
I was so beat after the performance. I read a review once that was like "I was tired just watching him!" and I completely felt that way.
I had a hard time sleeping, too, and I think it may have been because of last night. My head was just so... crowded.

I said the exact same thing when I got home, but I said it the last time too - I am spent just watching him. I am truly in awe that he is able to do that 8 times a week. I just got my ticket for July 1 - I have to try not to think about it until then tho (yeah right).
On a lighter note, I found Keith Buterbaugh hysterical last night. The woman behind me said "Kelly Jeanne Grant is out? I want my money back!!!" hehe.
I missed Kelly up there last night

Yeah - I really love her. I didnt dislike Katrina but I thought she was less poised than Kelly.
Although I loved their park scene last night
"which diamond thing? lol - sorry to hear about your bruise"
The diamond that juts out from the rest of the stage in the very middle. It's actually quite hard, and sharp!
I loved the park scene last night, too. This is going to sound super wierd, but I feel like Raul wasn't quite used to her size, or the distance between them, because as he brought his hand up to touch her face, he hit her boob by accident, and then he sort of didn't know what to do with his hand after that, so he sort of moved it in a strange way.
...That's not why I loved the park scene, though.
Double post.
Wow, sounds like it was incredible last night. I've been listening to the cast recording non-stop lately, and I really wish I didn't live 3,000 miles away and could've gotten the chance to see it. *sigh*
The show certainly must have been phenomenal last night. I'm envious of everyone who went.
Hah, that's why the dynamism of theater can at times be so entertaining, Elphie
He looked like he thought he was playing opposite KJG for part of it, and then finally went along with Katrina.

Elphie, I saw you guys in the front, I think. Well, thats the price you pay for getting to see Raul that close!
I totally noticed that thing with his hand too, but I didnt see that he touched her chest because I was sitting to the left. I thought that their timing during that scene was really well done last night.
I like your little addendum, hehe
...That's not why I loved the park scene, though.
Did you guys see that little flub between Raul and Angel when she was telling her tight-ass story? I dont remember if he left out the "I'm hesitate to ask" line or what, but when she went offstage you could see her mouth "I'm sorry!" to him. Either way, they seemed to both be having a good time during that scene
Angel?
He definitely said the "I hesitate to ask" line. And why would she apologize to him, if he left out a line? (which he didn't)
I really disliked Katrina as Kathy. She needs to have a bit of small town quaintness, but also a bit of city sass. Katrina was just stiff and cold. I could never see Bobby with the way she interpreted the character.
There *was* a rather long pause during the scene with Angel, but he definitely said that line. I don't know if that pause is usual or not, though.
I can't wait to see Kelly again. The last time I had seen the show was 6 months ago, so I can't compare properly.
...I really wanna go again before the last show. Yikes.
I just watched his taped performance from the Tony's (I was there, so I wasn't seeing it up close) and BAWLED my eyes out...

Kelly was back at today's matinee, and as wonderful as ever. She and Raul did the park scene particularly well - they were like two close friends finishing each other's sentences. How appropriate.
This was, I am pleased to report, one of the best audiences I've been part of. They didn't stand up for Raul after Being Alive but they clapped a long time, and he got an immediate standing ovation for the curtain calls.
Saw John Doyle go in the stage door around 1:30. I would have spoken to him but was too far away.
The performance was uniformly "on" - everyone was giving what was for me a new reading of their lines - just very subtle differences in timing and emphasis. It might be that the audience was giving them a lot of feedback as to what worked. And there was a lot of laughter and clapping during "Side by Side/What Would We Do Without You" - that entire number always energizes me and it was good to finally hear the audience getting involved!
Raul never ceases to amaze me - this was, for me, the best of his performances yet (this is my fifth time!). "Someone is Waiting" was tender and plaintive, "Marry Me a Little" very lyrical, and "Being Alive" just ripped me up. He was so broken at the beginning of "Being Alive" - so completely destroyed, and you just see the strength and hope flowing back through the end of the song. The emotional arc seems to start lower and run higher - for the first time, I believed he would find a way to commit, and that he believed it, too.
I love this show - I can't imagine walking up 47th Street and seeing some other show name on the Barrymore marquee.

I want so badly to meet Doyle; I feel as though I owe him my thanks for all of this. I hope he'll be around at closing or something.
Agreed, em! I don't usually have the nerve to approach non-performers but Doyle deserves to hear how much this production reaches people.

Yes, sorry I meant Angel and edited, hehe. This is what happens when I dont sleep.
Anyway, I dont know what the long pause was for, but I definitely saw her say I'm sorry for something, but who knows. Not important, just another live-theater moment
Anyway, thats so great that you saw Doyle, even if you didnt talk to him. I feel like anything that I want to say to him, or any of the cast, cannot possibly be exchanged at the stagedoor given the way that I am lol.
I know I'd be far too intimidated and shy to ask Doyle any intellectual-type questions about the show, but I really owe him a huge thank-you for Company.
