Wax Lion can tell you first hand that the teaser trailer for the RENT movie was not made by staunch advocates or conservatives to purposely repress gay rights. There isn't much that he can say that hasn't already been said, but he feels sad that some people think that it's not "gay" enough. Wax Lion is openly queer, and very proud to be so. The trailers that you've seen so far portray the characters and situations just as they're meant to be, and once the movie comes out you'll see that they're even more realistically accurate than the stage show. This story is about a group of struggling artists who believe in their craft. They are NOT wholly driven by their sexual orientation. For someone to say that the trailer is homophobic is very narrow-minded and trite. It's ludicrous and stereotypical. For instance, Angel doesn't dress in drag BECAUSE he's gay. He dresses in drag because it's a natural, if not successful calling. In the same light, you might as well say that all black public interest lawyers are lesbians. All beautiful bisexual women are performance artists and all straight, Jewish film makers should be named Mark. It's utter nonsense and obviously the messages of this show have escaped those who want to see a graphic portrayal of homo-eroticism. Maybe I missed something (and I don't know how I could have) but when those of you who feel offended by the trailer saw the actual stage show, were you upset because Angel and Collins only kissed each other twice? I'm really interested to know why you're just now coming forward with this. Have you all been upset and repressing this since 1996 when literally *all* press material, including but not limited to posters, flyers, handbills, playbills and window cards for the show have NEVER shown any type of obvious references to homosexuality? It's been running for 9.5 years and is still enormously successful. Spot NYC, the company that designed the original look and feel of RENT, knows their stuff. All of the movie paraphernalia is being derived from the same style. Perhaps you would like to contact Spotco. and tell them that you're upset that their campaign hasn't been gay enough. I'm sure that they'll ask you with open ears, in all of your gay wisdom, to express how they can improve on something that is already an enormously successful, million dollar property with an uncountable league of loyal fans who are themselves straight, gay, lesbian, queer, bisexual, trisexual, metrosexual and otherwise. Go ahead...Wax Lion dares you.

Oh God!! I think there are enough touchy people in the world. I for one am simply looking forward to RENT as a chance to see stunning actors in a stunning production. Let people just enjoy the talent in evidence and learn what they can.
