Just found out today that Raul will be one of the honorary co-chairs for the Drama League awards lunch on May 15th. Of interest, one of the other co-chairs is David Hyde Pierce. What's this event like? Worth spending some money to mingle?
I think honorary co-chairs are supposed to show up and talk to the contributors? But only the rich contributors who can afford $400 member reception tickets.
A friend of mine who is a journalist had a chance to chat briefly with Wes Craven last night at an event they were attending. She prefaced by saying her friend would kill her if she didn’t ask, and then proceeded to ask “how much is Raúl Esparza in 25/8?”. She said his eyes bugged out, his jaw dropped and he said “who told you about THAT??”. He was just flabbergasted that this random film journalist, at a horror movie event, knew who Raúl was, because it's a cast of unknowns. But he did stop himself at that and say of course, Raúl isn't an unknown, but that was the last place he expected encounter someone who knew about Raúl.
Anyway, when he recovered, he said that he’s all throughout the movie, so it’s not just like the first fifteen minutes as we speculated.
Oh, and (SPOILER WARNING ) = = = = = = = = = = = = he said later on, during a panel, that the villain in 25/8 isn’t dead (which means he isn’t a ghost or a zombie or some such creature), he’s alive and has been living under a bridge for 16 years. (I guess that means he’s the male version of a bag lady??)
Which also explains his look in this pic:
(Off-camera mugging with Wes Craven and his stunt-double)
When I saw that picture I may have recoiled in horror. I don't know if it's because he looks so scary and awful, or because my first instinct was that it was surprise! Alex DeLeon. (This is sad for everyone, but especially me.)
Humbug, thanks for that tidbit. Unfortunately, it means I won't be able to get away with just seeing a contained clip, huh? I'd have to sit though an entire horror movie? The things I contemplate doing for that man...
As much as I am a complete wuss when it comes to horror films, I'm beginning to think that if I keep thinking, "Oh, it's just Raul!" and just focus on the camp aspect, then I'll be okay. Heh.
